Can your lemmy client display SVG?

Pantherina OP ,

Thats also the Unity logo I guess.

Pantherina OP ,

All correct! You get 1000 internet points!

The foot logo of the GNOME desktop environment represents the GNOME project’s original mascot, which is a foot with sandals. It symbolizes the project’s focus on freedom, flexibility, and forward movement in the world of open-source software.

Germans approve

Pantherina OP ,

Same on Jerboah

A skeuomorph is a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues (attributes) from structures that were necessary in the original.[3] Skeuomorphs are typically used to make something new feel familiar in an effort to speed understanding and acclimation. They employ elements that, while essential to the original object, serve no pragmatic purpose in the new system.

(Wikipedia)

I dont think these logos are skeuomorph either

Pantherina ,

Nobody caaaares give us small phones with headphone jacks, thanks <3

Pantherina ,

Yeah but their phones dont get reasonable Updates and are less secure…

grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices

Pantherina ,

At least they had screws? I dont trust HDMI or even worse USB-C. Still using VGA monitors with adapters, never broke a single plug.

Pantherina ,

Because VGA used to be a standard and all monitors I had lying around are VGA only

Pantherina ,

Thats not really possible here. All they do is install multiple distros in parallel.

Pantherina ,

Yes it probably works, but when installing Distros I would always recommend using their standard partition layout

Pantherina ,

Omg apt is like the worst UI there is.

Have a look at nala! It needs some depencies but is a huge upgrade

Pantherina ,

Dnf is nice, rpm-ostree not so much.

Nala is the best by far.

Cargo is also nice.

Pantherina ,

Nala is an apt wrapper, it just displays stuff better, automates updates and automatically chooses the fastest mirror (thats the stuff I know)

Google Pixel 9 design revealed through 5K renders

The Pixel 9 will have rounded corners with a flat display and a centered punch-hole selfie camera. The power button and volume keys are placed on the right side of a flat frame. The smartphone will feature a 6.03-inch display, slightly smaller than the Pixel 9 Pro’s 6.1-inch display.

In terms of dimensions, the Pixel 9 measures around 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm, and 12mm with the rear camera bump, OnLeaks tells us.

So imitating Apple, a bunch of useless stuff like “adaptive touch depending on environment” and wireless charging.

Still no headphone jack.

Wow.

Pantherina ,

It is a huge security improvement. Using a DAC means I need to have USB always enabled (GrapheneOS has a toggle to disable all data which I would otherwise use) and Bluetooth is

  • used for tracking peoples movements
  • forcing expensive planned obsolescence heaphones with tiny li-ion batteries and proprietary chargers
  • also a security threat, as you have an open connection without any reason

Facebook snooped on users' Snapchat traffic in secret project, documents reveal (techcrunch.com)

Meta tried to gain a competitive advantage over its competitors, including Snapchat and later Amazon and YouTube, by analyzing the network traffic of how its users were interacting with Meta’s competitors. Given these apps’ use of encryption, Facebook needed to develop special technology to get around it....

Pantherina ,

Learning: VPN services are tracking instruments, not some magic tool.

And its not even new…

Pantherina , (edited )

Neofetch is unmaintained btw, fastfetch is a good replacement… for whoever needs that. I wrote my own tool for getting system info and I like my terminals to have free space

List of fetch tools

Cool alternatives:

Pantherina ,

It is written in Bash which I guess makes it pretty high level and stable. Until it breaks it shouldnt need much work.

Bash is damn slow though, so fastfetch (mainly in C) is way better for the “arch flex”

Pantherina ,

You should report this to your distro, run journalctl -f on startup and for sure give the output of kinfo to give a usable bug report.

Pantherina ,

Oh wow, now Google can scan my photos there too!

Pantherina ,

Not in stock Android 14 / AOSP

Pantherina ,

Yes the buttons and the “long press power button on display off for flashlight” both small but soo useful things

Pantherina , (edited )

Yup, an issue on the GrapheneOS issue tracker was closed, to implement this feature. Maybe giving it another try might help? Its damn useful and smart, as this has no function

Pantherina ,

Screenshot or didnt happen :D

You can use Emacs for panels??

Pantherina ,

Damn I need to find out if that works on my machine.

Pantherina ,

Test to see if this works

Very neat!

Always nice to have inline images :D

Pantherina ,

Do you use an external modem?

Pantherina ,

I want to use OpenWRT too but have no idea of the hardware, and we have cable here, and there is no supported router with cable. Do you know if I could just use some proprietary cable modem and attach that? Probably…

Pantherina ,

Is that webkit version outdated? In general you should try to support one of the supported versions.

Pantherina ,

Hm, I would contact upstream devs to support 2-4.1 then and find / create git repos for the missing libs, then include those as binaries in your manifest. This should avoid network access?

Accidentally uninstalled an important package in Debian Sid with KDE, transparency no longer working (lemmy.world)

Hi everyone, I ran apt full-upgrade last month and accidentally deleted a couple packages that weren’t supposed to be removed, due to me not paying enough attention. I could recover most of the system just fine, since most of the missing features and related packages were obvious to me. However, I still couldn’t figure out...

Pantherina ,

You will also need to use snapper before every apt-get upgrade to avoid these issues

Pantherina ,

Just reinstall plasma-desktop or however the metapackage is called

Pantherina ,

No there is nothing FOSS. Everything there is is proprietary. Even though Tesseract OCR is FOSS.

You can use Google Camera and Google Lens on GrapheneOS I think. Google Lens may need play services.

Pantherina ,

Why is reddit better than youtube? That graphic makes no sense, I can stream and download youtube, but reddit blocks anyone using a VPN and even forbids Lemmy links.

Pantherina ,

I dont get the bottom chart then

Pantherina ,

I would post it there, this will likely get removed in a few hours :D

Pantherina ,

And not the good aspects of Reddit either

Explain

Pantherina ,

sudoedit is more secure btw. Many editors are not built to be ran as root, and this copies the file to a temo directory, edits it without root, and then overwrites the original file on save with root.

Pantherina ,

If you give me more details maybe I can say something else :D

At least on Fedora, official tarball (firefox and firefox-bin), Fedora Firefox, Librewolf RPM, Librewolf Flatpak, Firefox Flatpak, torbrowser flatpak, Thunderbird flatpak, selfbuilt Firefox nightly, Chromium RPM, Chromium Flatpak and Brave RPM all work flawlessly when it comes to Wayland.

Pantherina ,

I mean it is basically profit on the back of cheap smartphone labor and a lot of wasted electricity, but it works. The stupid amazon giftcards are a problem, you could sell them for anonymous paying though.

Pantherina OP ,

Thanks, remembered that too. Displaylink sucks, so I guess no.
