It’s can be exactly this with jellyfin as well. The minimal setup with no https is just that, run app, open port on router and port forward. If you want https it requires messing with certs manually or using a reverse proxy.

Plex can take care of the login for you by using their own servers to log you in. Non technical users will of course find this easier to use but now Plex has data on all your users and logins and possibly viewing habits as well. Proponents of self hosting and open source don’t like that aspect of Plex.

I personally think Plex will continue to add features that make it more attractive for someone like Netflix to buy. Those features are generally the opposite of what self hosted users actually want.

Plex has been around for a long time and has a decent amount of funding so they have better client apps. Jellyfin is catching up fast.

I’ve used my setup with web browsers, Android, iOS and it’s been very solid.

Also remember that you can’t lose weight in a specific part of your body. As you lose weight, your body chooses where the fat is reduced. No exercise can target fat in a specific area. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.

Also I believe postgress has better performance than mariadb so no reason not to use that if you are setting it up from scratch.

    Whatever country you are from, think about the most backwards/rural/remote location that has people with backwards and regressive views.

    Consider that India likely has 5 to 10x the population of rural folks in small villages that have midevil views compared to your country.

    Add in long standing cultural misogynist views that is so pervasive it fully permeates all aspects of government and life and you quickly get to a point where abuse and domestic violence is tolerated.

    There is nothing special about the config, it’s the most basic config you can have as shown in the example at the bottom of this page.

    The part that was a bit complex is the ‘server’ setting. My server is on my router (opnsense) so you need to opnsense specific settings.

    I suspect the reason you need the extra stuff is because of how the Debian server is setup so that stuff will vary if you ever try to run another ‘server’ node. (I put server in quotes because wireguard doesn’t actually have server and client as a concept)

    These comments all make this seem super complicated. I have a ZFS array on proxmox that exports itself over NFS and also an unraid server that has a share exported over NFS. I mount both into docker containers as needed. I’m in my phone so I’ll just copy and paste my install notes, hope that helps:

    Proxmox Host Setup for NFS: -> proxmox install NFS server: apt install nfs-kernel-server -> create a filesystem for dockerData (makes snapshots easier and limits permissions) -> zfs create zfspool1/dockerData -> zfs set sharenfs=‘rw=@192.168.37.0/24,no_root_squash’ zfspool1/dockerdata -> zfs get sharenfs (to make sure only specific file systems are shared)

    unraid: -> export NFS share with ‘private’ and set rule to: 192.168.37.0/24(rw)

    Docker host setup (in my case I run an alpine server VM on proxmox:

    apk add nfs-utils -> rc-update add nfsmount -> rc-service nfsmount start

    In docker compose you will need a volume section at the top

    volumes: sonarr-config: name: sonarr-config driver_opts: type: nfs o: addr=192.168.37.25,nolock,soft,rw device: :/zfspool1/dockerData/arr-stack/

    You can also get cheaper mini PC’s on Alibaba for cheap. I did this in 2017 and it’s still going strong. No moving parts, all passively cooked with an Intel laptop chip that has hardware encryption built in (core i5).

    Everyone is suggesting cloud flare tunnels which can be easy to use but locks you into a proprietary service. If you want to self host everything, you can set it up yourself with a reverse proxy like traefik

    You will end up with service.local.domain.com and service.domain.com for local only apps and internet facing apps, all using HTTPS.
