My local cell tower is connected to the same street cabinet that my wired internet connection is connected to, and the speed of both of them is about the same.

What do you use to manage operating system images for installation on new laptops and workstations?

I’m wanting to create a centralized repository to keep base images of operating systems to be installed on new laptops or workstations bought/used in my household with my local CA already installed, configured to authenticate with my local FreeIPA instance, network configurations already configured, etc....

I have a set of shell / powershell scripts that I run post-install to configure everything. They are hosted on a local webserver, so it is just a one-line command to run the appropriate one.

DNS hijacking

EDIT: So because of my $0 budget and the fact that my uptime is around 50% (PC, no additional servers) I ended up using NextDNS. For the time being it works (according to dnsleaktest), an added benefit was improved ad-blocking (100% in this tool). I now have plans for a proper router in the future with a Pi-hole. PiHole can be configured to use DoH, as can OpnSense and presumably other local DNS and router servers.

Old PC as Server

I have an early 2000s PC (pre-SATA) with 512MB RAM (I’d love to tell you about the CPU, but its under a cooler that isn’t going anywhere) that’s been sitting in closets for about 15 years. And the biggest disadvantage of IPv6 is that each of your internal devices has its own address and can be directly accessible from outside. So you need to completely rethink how you do security.
