Secular Humanism ftw

Jakeroxs ,

Most of the alt right bigots I’ve seen or heard of are religious too. I’m sure there are some that aren’t tho just doesn’t seem to be common

Jakeroxs ,

I have heard that a lot but not seen it, but I don’t surround myself with those kind of people much.

I did New Atheism (never was really religious but Texan so… religion is everywhere in your face) > Secular Humanist while also being anti SJW because of how cringe/bad they make the left look > Gamergate… eh idk it seemed somewhat fair at first being a look at potential corruption in the game review sphere but spun out I definitely agree, though it’s hard to not feel it was co-opted or somewhat intentionally lead down a worse path for some reason.

Idk it seems like that’s definitely the narrative I’ve heard parroted online and on news articles but, I personally went down a similar path and am basically an atheist/agnostic secular Humanist and social democracy or straight socialist advocate 🤷‍♂️

The alt right existed prior to most of that, like the tea party in 2009

This is definitely a good point, when everyone is wfh things like slack or (bleh) Teams has everything in it. I am an internet kid and used im to communicate with my friend base for a long time, it works for me and I can stay connected with people that way, it seems like some people aren’t able to utilize that effectively.

I work for a large Corp that has offices in several location, prior to covid wfh, information was often silo’d just to certain locations and there were people on teams I didn’t know because they never post in slack/teams and instead just do everything in person. All of a sudden I’m seeing them post and ask questions/comment when they rarely/never had before.

The company is now instituting RTO and claiming it’s in the name of collaboration and culture, but if anything I think wfh helped a lot to make cross-site collaboration and culture more prevalent.

Jakeroxs ,

People need to learn to post in public (in the Corp) channels and then be able to search for answers.

In office you can just go walk over and ask someone and it’s often never documented anywhere. In chat programs you can search and find information instead of asking your go to.

Jakeroxs ,

That’s not at all what they said lol

Jakeroxs ,

Chromium isn’t technically Google

Jakeroxs ,

It breaks every site and is the bane of companies existence lol.

Jakeroxs ,

Because of all their “anti tracking” stuff just borks scripts that aren’t nefarious but necessary for sites to function. Its a pain when customers use it and think that our site is broken when it’s just duck duck go

Jakeroxs ,

I mean what would stop a company from doing that? I get why they don’t, because a lot of changes and fixes get implemented into the code from various companies/individuals, but if you had enough manpower and money, it could be done.

Apple has plowed over $500 billion into stock buybacks since 2012 — more than Visa, JPMorgan, or Exxon are worth (markets.businessinsider.com)

Apple has plowed over $500 billion into stock buybacks since 2012 — more than Visa, JPMorgan, or Exxon are worth::Only eight companies in the S&P 500 have larger market values than Apple’s outlay on share repurchases over the last decade.

Jakeroxs ,

Do you have a better solution? Progress always requires people to fight for the things they believe in and want to change, we don’t go anywhere unless people actually do something.

Jakeroxs ,

Funny, litterally had a convo with my wife about this the other day, in context of the song Killing in the Name lol

Jakeroxs ,

Our extreme capitalist society discards Marx? No way!

Jakeroxs ,

Agreed

Jakeroxs ,

Nevermind the potential PTSD and/or poisoning from their time in the military and the very poor state of the VA yet our military budget has never been higher.

Jakeroxs ,

Because they’re both populist, if you don’t care about the policy it’s easy to like both trump (pre elected, if you still support him after, you’re either willfully ignorant or brainwashed) or Bernie

Jakeroxs ,

This is why pharma shouldn’t be for-profit, it needs to be socialized for the good of everyone.

Jakeroxs ,

The problem is that some take it too far, on both sides. I’m a man and have considered myself a feminist for most of my life, but I can still call out the toxic aspects of feminism, an example being “girl boss” culture, that shit is just as toxic as some aspects of toxic masculinity.

Don’t get me wrong, obviously women should be allowed to have the same jobs (leading/managing included) but just be a normal good leader, you don’t need to copy the shitty behavior many men in power exhibited

Edit: I guess it’s more an issue of capitalism and some of its inherent flaws

Jakeroxs ,

Yeeeees

Jakeroxs ,

Not true, it’s a vocal minority

Jakeroxs ,

Most of us Americans don’t know what oligarchy means lmao

Jakeroxs ,

Have an upvote, in a perfect world, I’d love for there to be no need for guns, in the real world, it’s extremely smart to arm yourself in various circumstances.

Jakeroxs ,

What about the number of indirect deaths caused by US coups or US-backed regimes, and/or US corps

Jakeroxs ,

It’s moreso that everyone feels defeated, Bernie lit a fire and then didn’t continue to fan the flames.

Jakeroxs ,

The problem is democrats still actively fight against the left flank while in power, which leads to a slow crumble/decline as they refuse to do anything to change the status quo too much. Which leads to stagnation and people being more susceptible to falling into far right facisim. Some do end up on the left when educated but few people spend enough time to actually learn about the issues and solutions to our problems to call out the right wingers.

Its a hard call, in 2016 I didn’t vote because Hilary sucked and I thought that the US deserved Trump, and it sure did galvanize a lot of people, however Trump also did so much lasting damage, (supreme court, tax cuts for the wealthy/corpos, etc…)

It fucking sucks but the democratic party has done absolutely fuck all to stem the tide, they need to get with the progressive populist program or it’s just going to keep getting worse.

Jakeroxs ,

Not like the democratic party routinely rigs elections against local lefty populists right? Sometimes even supporting or propping up an insane right wing candidate instead.

Jakeroxs ,

You just described the internet lol

Jakeroxs ,

Partially wrong and right.

It has aspects of socialism such as welfare and promotion of social justice, while not entirely discarding capitalism.

Yes tho a lot of liberals indirectly or directly help push people toward facism instead of adopting more socialist or social democracy policies because capital above all else lol

Jakeroxs ,

It definitely deserves the praise because of how pro-consumer it is, even if it has some flaws on the ui/u

Jakeroxs ,

America sadly lol

Jakeroxs ,

Yeah, idk I’m a bit of a hipster on larian, played and loved dos 1 and 2, talked to everyone about it but very few people gave it a chance. Now bg3 has a lot of those same friends playing and talking about how great it is lol so I have the normal hipster response lol. Happysad

Jakeroxs ,

Right, you’re just letting the idiots win if you don’t prove to them that it works and is fine.

Jakeroxs ,

Doesn’t mean everyday normal people want to secede. I literally haven’t met a single person irl who thinks it’s a good idea.

Jakeroxs ,

And you don’t think they are now more alert to that kind of thing happening?

Jakeroxs ,

I agree and disagree, I think the idea of welfare is/was well intentioned to work within the capitalist system by people wanting improvements, not an intentional crushing of socialist ideals, it’s a meshing of the two.

I do think socialism would be better for the world long-term but it’s not like attempting to integrate good social democracy policies is a negative lol.

Jakeroxs ,

Why does it matter that the game is rigged against people wanting to improve our country by implementing progressive/socialist-adjacent policy?

Think about it just a bit and you’d understand why it matters lmfao

The people in power are the ones with money, and they have a vested interest in keeping that power and money to continue growing.

Jakeroxs ,

I’m guessing you don’t work for a large corp if you think sites don’t go down or have backend issues all the time lol

Jakeroxs ,

When you control the MSM and have all the money in the world at your disposal to sink the other candidate with deceit, it’s almost as good as rigging it.

Sure it’s not literally rigged where people’s votes don’t matter but it’s literally right up to the line.

Jakeroxs ,

Lol because enough people hated her enough to not vote for her or to (bleh) vote for Trump, the only one using populist rhetoric (even though we knew he was full of shit)

Jakeroxs ,

What about 2008?

Jakeroxs ,

Obama had a more populist message and resonated more with the moment.

She wasn’t even close to as much of the media favorite as she was in 2016 (though you’re right, she was initially the annointed one)

Obama didn’t end up living up to his message though, and definitely fell in line with the corporate dem class.

Jakeroxs ,

You didn’t specify what email provider you’re talking about lol

Jakeroxs ,

Ah thanks, I scrolled for a bit and didn’t see another post from them.

Jakeroxs ,

Sure, do you go and read the source code for Firefox for every update tho? I used to be a big fan of FF back in the day, it’s my daily browser on my phone but I just really like Vivaldi for desktop 🤷‍♂️
