I feel bad for you, hope you have a nice Christmas anyways. But here (Gutenberg, Sweden) we have ~0°C and snow outside. That’s not exceptionally cold, but we still have snow *-<|:+)

Like talking to an AI or just more intelligent NPCs overall? I don’t really believe in the talking part as people will scream very weird things at those AIs while there trying to tell you something. I don’t really see how they should handle that. Maybe LLM could be used in roleplaying games where the players all know to behave and act like their characters would.

As long as you do not use multiple accounts to gain an advantage in an argument I think it’s fine

Can you mention one then?

Do you really expect the developers of those free and open source apps to pay for you using their app?

What’s right and wrong had changed a lot since most religious text were written, for example:

If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.

From leviticus 20:13 (aka the Bible)

Doesn’t really sound like it belongs in the most holy book of the biggest religion on earth*. But I guess that precisely what’s in those holy texts doesn’t really matter but what matters is more the overall picture and the fact that religion unites people. My personal guess is that the religions practiced today will last as long as our civilization, even if their holy texts get really outdated

  • Disclaimer: this is my opinion and I’m a non-religious teenager from Sweden. I’m aware that most people probably don’t find it as weird as I do even if they don’t want to kill homosexuals

Not the quote I was looking for, but it will do

I’ve been on Mastodon (but not twitter) for a little while and I wonder the same thing. I basically saw no interesting discussion, just “microblogs” and many that’s just how it is.

How many USB hubs can you daisy-chain to a single port and what will happen if you connect too many?

Given that all of them are all powered hubs so power won’t be the issue and you have enough space to put them. How much will it impact performance, latency or other things I don’t know about? Or it will straight up kill the port if there are too many hubs?

According to some other answer here you could be able to have 32 devices but some devices register as two different devices, therefore you can only have 16

I’d also like something like that for communities (so that I’m notified when there are new posts)

Nice, I’m gonna check it out :)

is it a good beginner Python project to write a hacking software??

I am currently writing a hacking software in Python (tkinter) that hacks scripts and looks for wireless devices… But it’s fake!! It only pretends to do stuff and has nice graphics but it’s like those websites that pretend you’re hacking. Would that be nice?? And it’s open source too, so it will not harm anyone.

Some organisation I think could run instances:

  • churches could run a Mastodon instance (maybe godwills.it, that domain is not in use)
  • some European science agency could run an instance. preferably this would be an Lemmy instance so that you could follow fields. That would probably demand some from of community nesting so that you could have things like an “math” community with the subcommunity “number theory” and a way of controlling who can post in the communities.
  • I feel like it would make sense for governments to run fediverse instances that could both be used as general purpose instances by the people of that country and a channel for news communication. Some governments could maybe take over the local instance for that country (I haven’t talked to the mods but I’m thinking of feddit.nu and feddit.dk)
  • the scouts should run some instance, either locally or globally. As a scout I would love that :)
  • libraries/book shops could run bookwyrm instances. This could also help them recommend books to customers based on data from there bookwyrm instance.

Regarding film instances I think it’s best if that’s community run as I can’t see any organisation who wouldn’t bamboozle it and wants to run it. And community run instances can work if you have more then one moderator

Didn’t know of mander.xyz, thank you :)

Is there any way to reverse degrowth of the niche communities on Lemmy?

Like others, I came over when Reddit was banning 3rd party apps. Many communities were being started and I wanted to help. So I chose one community to form here and try and grow. And we did! There was a time a short while in the little KC Chiefs community was in the top 100 communities on Lemmy world. I knew that wouldn’t last...

Hjalamanger ,
@Hjalamanger@feddit.nu avatar

I would suggest we add community nesting. It would allow people to easier find new communities and post in small communities without risking that no-one sees it

Yes, and it’s not like you can’t experience temperatures that are not 0-100°F. Here in Sweden (and Finland) we have saunas, and I can assure you that there is a difference between 100 and say 110 Fahrenheit.

btw, is there any word for “being in a sauna” in English? In Swedish we would say “basta” , which is mentioned in our dictionary (in SAOL and SO but not in the SAOB article from 1901) but Google translate fails to translate it. We also have the longer form “bada bastu” that translates to “take a sauna” but I really prefer the shorter form.

But he is riding his carriage during combat with the giants and then the actual lighting is when he throws his hammer? But I could be wrong, it was a couple of years since I studied this

Hjalamanger ,
@Hjalamanger@feddit.nu avatar

I looked it up on Wikipedia. They don’t mention any lightning coming from his hammer but say that he rides is carriage and creates lightning when he is angry

When Thor is enraged, he rides around on his chariot, which is drawn by the goats Tanngnjóstr and Tanngrisnir, i.e. Tandgnissle and Tandglese, among the clouds and fights with his hammer, Mjölnir (Mjölnir, a symbol of the thunderclaw), against evil in the form of giants; a similar battle is fought in Indian mythology between Indra and Asuras. This is how thunder occurs

Translation from the Swedish Wikipedia

I’m kinda disappointed that he doesn’t create thunder with is hammer. I thought our school knew what the were teaching us :(

Will Lemmy soon drive Innovation in the Fediverse?

Currently lemmy is like the speedboat next to the heavy steam boat of Mastodon etc. While lemmy is still dynamic and flexible and can introduce new features easily without scaring off its established user base, mastodon can not do such experiments so easily. Now, if lemmy gains more momentum in the fediverse and establishes...
