Honestly one thing I think our future !place needs is color blending. colors can be blended with the below color instead of replaced. A notched slider or radio button sets the blending alpha. 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%.

It really sucks that we are still detatching. however, people are moving things off of reddit rather than meerly reposting (copying) things, only the creators and mods have that ability.

For the question of why are we linking to reddit so mutch, it is a unique culture that cares about ravishing reddit. After that I dont know where we will be.

My favoite subreddit in theory was tiny but still somhow full of corperate scam artists selling to those at the intersection of sex and sad. Neither of which are the point the sub. the corrisponding lemmy community is free of that BS, the people are way happier. but it only has 5 members, 6 interactions a month.

Newpipe is a personal favorate, its a verry solid, unified package (no plugin support). Can watch most non DRM yt stuff as well as its own non account subscription system, no plugin support means no dearrow or sponsorblock. But it doesnt even relise that the ads even exist so it doesnt load and play them.

Ive been yearning for a while a “video or channel for later, go away now. dont show me the same video more than 5 times” plugin

detailswhen I load a video or for the first 5 videos in the recommended section when I press a button, of those not in my subscriptions or whitelist, add the video or whole channel to a blocklist and dont show in any list (home, recommendeds, etc), update lists on open pages to reflect the change

Its ment to cull the garbage and get a more inde youtube, I like an artist called Sui uzi but listen to their diskography once and youtube will drive you to listen to the same tracks repeatedly.

I have the opposite problem, I find windows or other OSes to be so full of stuff, (feature ritch) but lack low-level “i just wanna poke at this briefly” capability, the (possable) reason why most Raspberry Pis run Linux is because its so easy to address linking this thing to that one. all of these things are about having flexible references and easy access to computer resources, On windows I find myself wondering why I cant open this text based file real quick without needing to go online and get some software that will specifically handle it.

there are very few APIs you can touch in an ELF program (think EXE for Linux) that you cant with a Bash script and relevant programs. I get on windows and all the EXEs have have even more cryptic names than linux and no help menu or offical e-book and are at the mercy of the internee’s answer (whats lsass.exe). it all makes me go, screw it! if I want to access the Raw C drive to do a non off the shelf task, I need to make it myself which means learning their programming framework.

Your encredably lucky, most would commit murder just to be in your position. most buisness have a shrinkwrapping effect, causing needs that are soft and hard to define to be compressed down with everything else. Example: “Work more hours, you dont need to sleep” where 5 hours is a bare minimum to not quickly kill people. only thing sustainable is making the more maluable values have firm limits or not have the shrinkwrap effect in the first place

I remember I lost internet for months, only thing keeping me sane was a youtube downloading wbsite thats dead now, a trackphone and shit tier free wifi. If your on android, there are tools to make a (CLI) program called yt-dlp easy to use on mobile, as it converts telling the computer what to do via text into buttons and toggleswitches

Try stringing sshfs mounts around like cristmas lights. Bonus points if you can minipulate the files of the machine your sitting in front of by telling your remote computer to move a thing but is bound to send a command to yet another machine, etc… till the second to last one of them commands your own machine to move the file

The point is to blacklist as specific as needed, EX: dont block lemmy dot Marxist Lennonists just its extremist communities (ml admins have a communism chinaphile problem)

However Servers ghould get

• whitelist/blacklist of users
• blacklist/whitelist of communities (prevents blocking servers for just their groups)
• blacklist/whitelist of servers
• server federation
