Loot boxes suck but I’d argue valve is still one of the better approaches. Makers of skins get cuts of sales, Dotas sales help the international prize pool to an extent, and it doesn’t lock you into a treadmill just to unlock gameplay elements.

Every other company seems to be doing the same but somehow even worse.

I don’t know, I’m all for keeping people away from addictive behaviors and would rather micro transactions not be a thing at all full stop - but allowing users to get money out of games they have already invested in is also a benefit, so it feels weird to single out the one option that provides consumer value. Don’t play CS anymore? Sell the AK Fire serpent you unboxed for 2.50 back in 2014 and buy yourself a steam deck and keep a gift card for a few games. Or a new set of skins in whatever game your playing now is.

As far as the API goes, Im pretty unfamiliar so Im not sure what responsibilities a company has when using their site as a login to another site. There’s porn sites that allow me to sign in with Facebook / Gmail, if someone uploads CSAM to that site do those sites have a duty in some way?

How can I run a sudo command automatically on startup? I need to run sudo alsactl restore to mute my microphone from playing In my own headphones on every reboot. Surely I can delegate that to the system somehow?

This one seemed perfect but nothing lasts after the reboot for whatever reason. If i manually re-enable the service its all good so I suspect theres no issue with the below - I added the after=multi-user.target after the first time it didn’t hold after reboot.

It seems to have no effect either way. Originally I attempted without, then when it didn’t hold after a reboot and some further reading I added the After= line in attempt to ensure the service isn’t trying to initiate before it should be possible.

I can manually enable the service with or without the After= line with the same results of it actually working. Just doesn’t hold after a reboot.

I stopped for a long while after Adam and during the pandemic and I have to agree. Patricks chemistry with everyone is great, the Ryan lore well runs infinitely deep and they cast in general seems to be having more fun.

It’s a similar kind of content it always was but it’s making me laugh like it used to so I can’t complain.

Brought u this thing with Lawrence, Bruce and KassemG is also pretty excellent.

Hl3 will come out if and when valve comes up with interesting new engine tech. The story of hl1 was the pitch the gravity gun and physics of source was the reason for hl2. If vr had seen mass adoption hl alyx would have been a Main line game or maybe include more post hl2 content.

I made the dive into Linux mint last night. If you already have windows installed you can side load so you don’t have to completely commit right out of the box. I play games that would require windows so this was necessary for me but so far outside of hating middle mouse click to paste and some troubleshooting for my headset (I could hear myself quietly through my headphones when speaking into mic) Linux has been preferable to win11

You’re right, but the point I was trying to get across to another layman is you can have windows already installed and not break anything with another install of Linux. Rather than get into partitioning and dual booting.

Also at least for mint which I was directly talking about you actually boot via live USB first and have to install from an icon on the desktop so there really is no risk for erasing windows until your well into making decisions. Which again you have to choose to erase windows.

Their modding support is still being worked on though as they had to “basically rewrite the entire game and engine from scratch” and so the full DUSK DDK (Dusk Development Kit) built on the new DUSK is “still a few weeks away” but once done “you will be able to play all the custom maps with both Classic or HD visuals, replace weapons, models and more”. It even supports Quake and Half Life maps.

Being able to easily run other games maps seems cool, I guess this is on some sort of version of the quake or source engines then?

Status no longer reports user Ips as those are hidden through some steam routing, I’m not sure if rcon status still reports it but that would be limited to server admins. If you open the steam overlay while in CS it shows some of the details.

There definitely was a shift. they were never going to be able to release a totally new game without a lot of backlash from the addict skin trading communities. They wouldn’t want to risk their free income from the whales by splitting the player base and eventually shunning the skin investors stuck on the old game.

I don’t see it as very anti-consumer that every skin and statrak item has been brought along to the new game. I agree it would be nice to be able to play the old one, but I’d rather the option to torrent old clients and host my own dedicated server on the old one than be forced to upgrade to the new one. They don’t host it anymore, pirate away Who cares?

This release has sucked ass, CS:sources release sucked ass, Condition Zero as a whole sucked ass, and ask anyone old enough, the move to 1.6 from 1.5 sucked ass.

I still expect it to end up a good game, just like 1.6 and source eventually was.
