“AI girlfriends” will be pretty much like drugs – it’ll feel awesome at the very first days. But after a month or so… reality will “kick in” and it’ll feel like trash.

GustavoM ,

“We care about your privacy so much we are releasing something that does exactly THAT, but for images!”

“…”

“What do you mean, “just don’t look at it lmao”?”

So you are telling me that really soon I’ll have genes inside me removing cancer and even “fixing” some “unfixable” things like poor eyesight and even brain-related ones? Sign me up.

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

Eh, not really. Unless we are talking about something like genes able to rejuvenate someone a decade back, etc. Or a “everlasting” gene that lasts forever inside your body instead of a couple months, etc.

Amen. Folks seem to forgot the many other aspects that makes a game good in exchange of focusing on the least important aspect – how well s/he will play the game.

“Hey, user. So we are peeking on your browsing habits and give you suggestions related to it. Is that okay to you?”

“Yeah, su–”

Xbox Is Suspending Players Caught Using Emulators (gameranx.com)

For a good while, there was a bit of hype built around the Xbox Series S, in particular for the retro gaming scene. It was a cheaper device that offered a small form factor. Likewise, it allowed consumers to download emulators and enjoy various retro video games. But while this process was available, some consumers were...

Thankfully even a $10 dollar device can run playstation games nowadays so el oh el to whoever is running emulators on a console.

Welcome to the modern world, where the “content” is nothing than just a clickbait fiesta and words hurt.

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

…and here I am enjoying a nice and steady 300 mbps, thinking: “Why on earth I’d want to improve it to almost 20 times more, when its already fast enough to load most content in less than a fraction of a second?”.

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

Something something “if it is free, you are the product.”

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

…what? All I need is a single bash script (and less than 5 minutes) to recover all my previous stuff back.

GustavoM ,

Most mods tend to follow the quantity of reports they receive from the community. If you post something that triggers lots of random users… then you are screwed.

And yes, that also happens on Lemmy… as much as folks around here consider it as a “holy ground filled with saints”. :^)

t. A mod threatened to ban me because I was “spamming” – while I was posting once per day.

Why does Nvidia hate linux? (lemmy.ml)

So I’ve been trying to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers on my homelab so I can get my fine ass art generated using Automatic1111 & Stable diffusion. I installed the Nvidia 510 server drivers, everything seems fine, then when I reboot, nothing. WTF Nvidia, why you gotta break X? Why is x even needed on a server driver....

Eh. Even if it works, I like my gray hair as is, thank you very much. Unless if it means not entirely a “reverse-aging pill”, but a PREVENTION of common aging problems such as slow reflexes, poor eyesight, etc… then sign me up.

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

Eh… advantages = VERY lightweight, user control does exist, no bloatware.

Drawbacks = some games won’t work and/or require some turbonerd tweaking in order to work

Thats pretty much it.

GustavoM OP ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

That’s…perfect. Thank you very much.

If you have lots of free time…? Nah, not really.

t. tried Gentoo once, noticed it took over 7 hours to compile a kernel (on a “HIGH-END gaming rig”) – noped the eff out of it instantly.

Just search for “(your favorite distro name here)minimal install”, download whatever pops up first, install it and customize it to your hearts content.

But if you are talking about (entirely) making a zero, brand-new distro… then Linux From Scratch is your best bet.

b-but muh circlejerk

Brands that don't buy enough Twitter ads will lose verification (www.theverge.com)

Starting August 7th, advertisers that haven’t reached certain spending thresholds will lose their official brand account verification. According to emails obtained by the WSJ, brands need to have spent at least $1,000 on ads within the prior 30 days or $6,000 in the previous 180 days to retain the gold checkmark identifying...

Downvotes/dislikes are a great way to weed out misinformation and low quality content

That simply does not happen. Even so, the report button exists for dealing with both situations – you don’t need a 2nd option (which can be easily manipulated, considering there is no age gap and/or restrictions – even your toddler can flag your post as “low quality content”). In other words… that is why we can’t have nice things.

What is the “real” purpose of Debian or Arch?

I should have been more clear – Debian/Arch “just works” and (both low/mid/high users) do not need of anything beyond that. And both Alpine/OpenBSD do not provide an extra “need” to anything of what both Debian/Arch already does. Unless if Alpine and/or OpenBSD provides a feature that makes Arch/Debian obsolete in any way… then yep, both will become more relevant.

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

both don’t “just work” for many users.

…Windows users (migrating from Windows to Linux or just “posers”) do not count. :^)

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

Alpine linux has plenty of cases

pretty good for servers

a fast package manager

…which are easily surpassed by (pretty much any distro). And idk why you highlighted those like its a some sort of “deal breaker” for whoever wants a stable/reliable distro – even a potato (486 and down) can run apt (which is terribly slow compared to any other package manager) incredibly fast nowadays. If those are (still) issues that are considered to be critical by you… then eh, I’m afraid to say that it’s a (You) problem. :^)

GustavoM ,
@GustavoM@lemmy.world avatar

Not the answer you are looking for, but you can always compile things yourself.

“Gus are you bleeping INSA–”

It’s very easy to compile something after you get the hang of it. The experience varies from typing three commands (./configure, make and sudo make install) to just one. (sudo make install). And you can find out the package dependencies by reading the README file… or by just taking a look at the project directory. Or even at the Makefile file (which is a some sort of “installer” that you can edit and change to whatever you want.)
