Yeah, all major religions are known for their very level-headed followers. No need to worry.

GiddyGap ,

Books are for reading, not burning. But anyone should be allowed to burn any book they want to burn. It’s nothing but ink on paper.

YouTube and Reddit are sued for allegedly enabling the racist mass shooting in Buffalo that left 10 dead (fortune.com)

YouTube and Reddit are sued for allegedly enabling the racist mass shooting in Buffalo that left 10 dead::The complementary lawsuits claim that the massacre in 2022 was made possible by tech giants, a local gun shop, and the gunman’s parents.

GiddyGap ,

Many Americans will sacrifice a lot for their guns. Including school children and the ability to live in a safe society.

GiddyGap ,

Man, if your country has you living in such fear that you feel the need to be armed at all times, then that country is a failed society.

GiddyGap ,

Are you suggesting that the things you mention are not true? There’s probably a reason why people keep mentioning them, no?

No matter what, we are all in the climate crisis together, and everyone, including Americans, must do everything we can to make better choices when it comes to climate.

GiddyGap ,

I live in the States. Well aware of the bugs. There are bugs in Europe, too. Just FYI.

But that’s not the point. Americans still have to do a lot more. A mindset change is needed when it comes to climate.

GiddyGap OP ,

Brought to you courtesy of the “party of parent’s rights.”

GiddyGap OP ,

Definitely. And MTG would be an infinitely bigger turnoff for moderate Republicans and independents than Palin. VP is not gonna happen, but she may get a cabinet spot in a Trump admin. That’s scary.

GiddyGap ,

Less niche communities. Don’t worry. Doom scrolling is ready to pounce.

GiddyGap ,

Please retake Economics 101.

GiddyGap ,

A lot of people are in that same situation. Golden handcuffs. Can become very problematic if you lose your job and have to move for a new job.

GiddyGap ,

There’s a lot of misunderstood masculinity out there.

The accounting firm gets a bigger tax break by buying a pickup truck rather than a sadan or a minivan?

GiddyGap ,

How often do accountants haul a ton and tow 3.5? Not often.

GiddyGap ,

Probably. Ok if he’s not claiming it on taxes. Tax payers should not be paying for his personal haulin’.

Companies like Amazon, Netflix, and Meta are paying salaries as high as $900,000 to attract generative AI talent (www.businessinsider.com)

Companies like Amazon, Netflix, and Meta are paying salaries as high as $900,000 to attract generative AI talent::With not enough AI experts to fill demand, companies are offering competitive salaries.

GiddyGap ,

Preferably before it takes everyone’s jobs.

GiddyGap ,

Probably $100-200 per month depending on his salary.

It’s a bit like those cases where a defendant gets 54 life sentences + 100 years. Only in America.

I'm worried that in the future we will be forced to use smartphones just like in China

In China, you can’t exist without a smartphone, because for all existential things you have to do (paying bills, buying tickets etc.) , you are forced to use the almighty wechat app. Smartphones are a tool to manipulate and to spy on the population. It is a tool utilized by the ruling class, to control the masses. I hate the...

GiddyGap ,

Do you hate all progress or just smartphone progress?

Because I could rattle off a list that would take a day to get through with all the progress that I love.

GiddyGap ,

Problem is that Trump has support from 40 percent of the US population. Alex Jones did not.

Trump can literally do everything wrong and it doesn’t matter to his voters at this point. They will vote for him regardless.

GiddyGap ,

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” Trump remarked at a campaign stop at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. “It’s, like, incredible.”

Ironically/sadly, many of these fundies are women.

GiddyGap ,

God bless the EU. They are just so far ahead of the rest of the world on consumer protection (and much else). Will hopefully force everyone else into compliance.

GiddyGap OP ,

These cases are such a double-edged sword, because they risk being taken up by Trump’s SCOTUS. If they rule against based on the majority’s antiquated worldview, it will leave the US, and especially younger generations, in severe danger for a very long time.

GiddyGap ,

That stuff is mostly an issue in the rather puritan US. People don’t really think like that elsewhere.

I assume they are not making specific “clean” or censored version just for the US.

GiddyGap ,

You seem to worry a lot about “tankies,” yet you support piracy. You do know that capitalism is based on being able to produce a good or service and sell it to the highest bidder, right? Piracy is the opposite.

GiddyGap ,

Piracy wouldn’t even be possible if it wasn’t for the people who actually produce the product being pirated. Anarchy doesn’t produce anything but chaos.

Is capitalism all great? Of course not, but it produced the foundation of piracy in the first place.

GiddyGap ,

Piracy is not the cure to capitalism. Common sense regulation is the cure to capitalism (see e.g. the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany etc.).

GiddyGap ,

I listed a bunch of capitalist countries with common sense regulation.

GiddyGap ,

Your post is obviously mainly about interest rates, which wasn’t clear from the headline. Why do you think higher interest rates equal “everything going to shit”?

GiddyGap ,

Mass is doing so many things right. There’s still a long way to go to get to European standards, but still doing a lot better than most states.

GiddyGap ,

Every time someone like this flees, conservatives celebrate. One less vote against them and one step closer to their dream.

How is it even possible/practical to obey traffic laws?

I’m talking specifically about obeying the speed limit, doing a full stop at stop signs, etc. After receiving a speeding ticket for doing 53 in a 50, As an experiment I went a full day obeying all traffic laws 100% and it caused so much road rage. For example, there is a 2 lane road near me with a speed limit of 50 (where I...

GiddyGap ,

All I’m getting from this is that, on the day you obeyed all traffic laws, you were the good driver and the others were bad. Things didn’t run smoothly because the others didn’t obey the traffic laws, not because you obeyed them.

GiddyGap ,

The reason that many people can’t stick to traffic rules like speed limits and full stops, as I see it, is more a result of people lacking patience, they are stressed, they are under constant pressure. And they lash out in road rage against others because they are protected by their little metal box and no one can get to them.

Society needs to slow down and individuals need more empathy. If you have kids, make sure to teach them those two things.

GiddyGap ,

It’s an ironic end to the streaming wars. After pouring billions and billions of dollars into constructing supposedly revolutionary streaming platforms, and decimating the business models that had offered the industry stability for decades, the ultimate product looks awfully similar to what companies and consumers were trying to break free from in the first place.

I’ll still take streaming any day over cable.

No contract and you can put everything in rotation. Sign up for a month, binge, cancel, next.

GiddyGap ,

I’d just wait until the second part is out, sub one month.

GiddyGap ,

Problem with that is that many people are being dicks while thinking that they are not being dicks.

GiddyGap ,

that doesn’t exist outside the internet.

Never been to any type of city, I see.

GiddyGap ,

There are a lot of goobers in Georgia, though. Many under that gold dome.

GiddyGap ,

When in Vegas, cash. Everywhere else, card.

GiddyGap ,

Important to add that it’s really just in the US that this tie exists between religious conservatives (especially evangelicals) and capitalism. In many other parts of the world, religious people are more leftwing, especially to take care of the weakest among us.

GiddyGap ,

Yes. Brazil and the US are among the few countries where evangelicals are hard right.

Amazon starting to track and penalize workers who work from home too much (www.theguardian.com)

Some staff members were alerted on Wednesday they were “not currently meeting our expectation of joining your colleagues in the office at least three days a week”, according to emails shared with the Financial Times. The emails were also discussed on the anonymous corporate message board platform Blind.

GiddyGap ,

I hear ya. The problem with moving to a cheaper location with a remote job is that, if you lose that job, you’ll probably have to move again because there may not be any other jobs in that location other than another remote job.

Especially risky if you buy your home and will have to sell quickly.
