It’s very confusing because there’s settings for it in the apps, then there settings for it in your account and finally some instances don’t even federate with NSFW content so you have to check at all 3 levels to get it working.

Most airlines do the same shit in Europe, and what makes it worse is that when you buy tickets in groups or with your partner for example, they intentionally place you separate even if there is free space next to one of the seats so that you then have to buy at least one seat to place it next to the other assigned seat. Wizzair actually used to place people together before, but then they intentionally broke it and now charge 40€ for the solution to the problem they created.

At least for cars sold in Europe often times they are still being assembled within the European Union even if in cheaper markets, so protections are still in place and strong. But cars are made of millions of components manufactured all over the world so there’s always at least some human suffering somewhere along the chain.

Potentially interesting threads are often empty. It’s more like having 50k people in a metropolis and your going door to door to try to find them. Often they cluster around particularly popular spots and that’s it. Most of them are ghosts - they don’t post anything.

In that time we’ve had new people come and experience a lack of apps, many that we do have today were still in the works a month or two ago. We’ve had performance issues, shitty Active sorting that still shows week old posts no matter how many times you refresh, we’ve had instances simply disappearing over night, we’ve had ddos attacks, we’ve had horrible content spam like CSAM and issues with extremism.

All of that with the cherry on top that signing up for Lemmy, understanding how it works and using it day to day is not as easy as a place like reddit. Who knows what the future holds for Lemmy.

For work I used to have an agenda with notes but over time I realized it’s impossible to actually keep organized and have the most important things be the most easy to find. I moved to onenote and never looked back.

For personal notes I use a tablet with pen because it’s fun to write by hand without wasting trees and it still being digital it’s easier to organize and move information around.

It’s been better since moving away from lemmy.world, then Sync being available also helped a lot. But unfortunately as many have noted already, this is not as easy to get into for more casual users so it’s heavily biased towards tech topics and communities. What made you choose your instance?

Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I’m intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don’t know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it....

Kept having stability issues with the instances I joined. One of them even dissapeared completely (rip vlemmy). I ended up on a anarchy/piracy one and it’s been the best experience so far.

I never understood this tactic. Why demoralize your whole workforce for months until enough motivated and talented people leave that you don’t have to fire anyone. The useless ones are never the first ones to leave, especially if they don’t have any talents to sell to other companies. Also people don’t leave immediately after it turns bad, it usually takes months for them to be demoralized enough and find new arrangements.

By that time wouldn’t it be smarter to eat the cost of firing people from the start, get rid of the fat, pay the severance and move on with those that can still lead you to success? I’m convinced the moral hit would be a lot less this way and the bounce back would be faster.

Honestly, I moved away from that instance after days of issues, downtimes and timeouts. Been a smooth experience since then. It’s unfortunate that they are more focussed on grabbing as many new users as possible instead of giving the existing users a stable experience.

Eating too many donuts and bad diet in general have long term consequences that leads to millions of deaths everywhere and every year. 17 years is probably enough for those consequences to catch up to you if you’re doing a particularly bad job of it, but by that time it’s hard to make the connection anyway.
