“An all-male Monday sounds pretty gay to me.”

Holy cow, how do they lead the article with this? It’s literally homophobic to claim that a bunch of men together is gay, and men are already suffering for social pressure to not show platonic affection to one another, and they’re fanning that flame.

This is bar owner is a stupid shithead, but every time I open a link to this website I’m reminded how absolutely garbage it is. This is like tops tho and honestly leads me to believe they’re no better than the bar owner.

EatATaco ,

Calling out homophobia is fine. Claiming a bunch of men getting together is gay is homophobia. I’m calling it out.

EatATaco ,

By who?

You kind of answer your own question. But ignore the fact that the author of this article and whoever they quote are doing it too, by suggesting men getting together “sounds pretty gay.”

It’s great for you that you can show physical affection with your straight male friends, but let’s not pretend this isn’t a problem in our society.

EatATaco ,

Okay, so straight dudes are to blame for the straight dudes having issues, yet this is society’s fault?

Regardless of whose fault it is, it’s exists. And considering the source of this article, it’s safe to say it ain’t just straight people pushing it.

I think you are purposely misinterpreting the tongue in cheek nature of the author’s writing.

I agree with the premise of the article. I find their method of making it to be counterproductive (pushing homophobia) and also exacerbating a societal problem.

And you’re also so close to why this is wrong: why do you think they are calling it gay if they don’t recognize that this is a societal problem with straight men? That’s the whole point of the “tongue in cheek” nature of their homophobic statement: to leverage this fear of men bonding being associated with being gay.

This isn’t a societal problem, it’s an internal contradiction that needs to be addressed by those who fear being labeled gay by other bigots.

I see it as almost the exact opposite: an internal contradiction of people who claim homophobia is bad using homophobia to insult people.

EatATaco ,

How do you solve a problem when you don’t know what or who’s causing it?

I’m not trying to solve it here, but point out to you that this article is exacerbating it. For that the origin of it is unimportant.

I’d hardly say one joke article from a lgbtq magazine is causing all these young men to internalize their homophobia.

Why misrepresent what I said? Is spewing homophobia okay as long as it’s sarcastic?

that it’s partly gay people’s fault.

Yes, when people, gay or straight or whatever, push this homophobia, they are partially responsible.

You are the only person interpreting being labeled as gay as homophobia.

Claiming that men socialize with each other is gay is absolutely homophobia. Quite literally. Why are you defending this as not homophobic?

It seems you may have some issues with homophobia yourself.

I could be the most homophobic person on the planet and it would have zero bearing on the points I’m making.

EatATaco ,

So it’s up to us straight men to decide what is and isn’t homophobic… Not the people who are gay?

Ad hominem.

I think if no one else is sharing your interpretation of the article, that may be a clue you have made an misinterpretation.

Argumentum ad populum.

You haven’t established that it’s homophobic

Straight men hanging out with each other is labelled as “pretty gay.” This is irrational because straight men can hang out with each other without being gay.

Ahh, so the men who go to that bar to avoid or devalue gay culture and their fight to achieve equality are totally victims

Never said not suggested this. I think they’re idiots. Just like the author of this piece and the tweet, and the editors for allowing it. Multiple times youve falsely out words in my mouth.

They aren’t claiming all men who socialize with men are gay

“An all-male Monday sounds pretty gay to me.”

Lol, are you like allergic to the concept of context?

What does context have to do with this? You tried to attack me, by calling me homophobic, when my level of homophobia has no bearing on the content of my argument.

EatATaco ,

Lol, who exactly am I attacking?

Look up the meaning.

Only because you haven’t stated your interpretation, what else is there to judge?

Your logical fallacy is not my fault.

Why do you instinctually believe All Male Monday has an inherent negative connotation?

I don’t. The one who “instinctually” believes it means something other than men hanging out are the people who think it sounds gay.

You have, by ignoring the purpose of the article

First, that’s you inferring it from me not saying something, not me implying it. You’re also wrong, in both that I don’t think it and I absolutely called out the bar owner in my very first post.

What does context have to do with any arguments…?

I clarified the question, which you ignored.

Being called gay is not homophobic unless the person calling you gay is doing so as an insult.

The quote was clearly mean to offend; it was clearly an insult.

And yes, personal biases are important to determining the logical framework of an argument

Personal bias and logic are too different things. My points are either wrong or they are right. Whether they come from someone who is biased or unbiased does not change whether they are wrong or right.

EatATaco ,

They implicity, but clearly, define it: the same price as gasoline cars.

Also, Become != Are. It even notes, right in the blurb there, that they’re getting there, not that they are there.

EatATaco ,

Oh, so you mean not yet, but maybe affordable soon.

What do y’all thinking “becoming” means? If they meant they are already affordable, they would have used the term “are.”

Texas professors want to use abortion ban to punish students for "consensual sexual intercourse" (www.salon.com)

“Along with their anger about abortion, they grouse about not being allowed to punish students “for being homosexual or transgender.” They also argue they should be able to penalize teaching assistants for “cross-dressing,” by which they appear to mean allowing trans women to wear skirts.”

EatATaco ,

Even before the overturn of roe v wade the right to bodily autonomy, as you’re using the term, did not exist, as even roe v wade concluded that the state might have a compelling interest to restrict abortion in some cases. And most states had some kind of restriction in place.

And when the scotus overturned it, they didn’t remove the right to bodily autonomy, but the implicit right to privacy.

EatATaco ,

“I just want so much land such that if everyone wanted the same amount, there wouldn’t be enough land in the world.”

EatATaco ,

You’re 100% projecting. Also the other poster said nothing about “ideal” but what was normal. Which it absolutely was and still would be if interest rates weren’t so high.

EatATaco ,

EatATaco ,

Can’t be a lemme comment thread without someone completely unnecessarily shitting on the US. 👍

EatATaco ,

The issue is that this place is filled with the exact opposite: people who keep saying that America is some hell on earth. We certainly have plenty of problems and there are no shortage of ways we could improve drastically…but the people who can’t see a post about a historic achievement in Mexico without shitting on America are just as ridiculous as the people who can’t see another country’s success/failure without claiming America is the best. Two sides of the same thoughtless coin.

EatATaco ,

There’s one party who has a lot of people who want to address the problems you point out. There is another party that wants to remove all ability of the government to address any of those problems you mention because they think that will solve the problems.

The problem with the former party is that they can never get a large enough majority to do anything about it. The way our government is set up, you need more than slim majority in both houses to get anything meaningful done, unless you can get everyone of the people in the party to line up behind it, any you’ll inevitably have hold outs.

Your post is just more of the “muh both sides!” nonsense. The problem isn’t that neither party listens, it’s that the one who wants to stop the government from being able to do anything about it keeps getting at least near 50% of the people to vote for them.

I think we’re in an ai bubble because Nvidia is way over valued and I agree with you that often people flock to shiny new things and many people are taking risk with the hope of making it big…and many will get left holding the bag.

But how do you go from NFTs, which never had widespread market support, to the market pumping a trillion dollars into Nvidia alone? This makes no sense. And to down play this as “just a bullshitter” leads me to believe you have like zero real world experience with this. I use copilot for coding and it’s been a boost to productivity for me, and I’m a seasoned vet. Even the ai search results, which many times have left me scratching my head, have been a net benefit to me in time savings.

And this is all still pretty new.

While I think there it is over hyped and people are being ridiculous with how much this will change things, at the very least this is going to be a huge new tool, and I think you’re setting yourself up to be left behind if you aren’t embracing this and learning how to leverage it.

EatATaco ,

I just don’t get this. There has not been some huge leap in processing power over the past few years, but there has been in generative AI. parallel processing, on the other hand, has been around for decades.

I just don’t know how one can look at this and think there hasn’t been some big step forward in ai, but instead claim it’s all processing power. I think it’s pretty obvious that there has been some huge leap in the generative AI world.

Also I’ve been incorporating it more and more. It boggles my mind that someone would look at this and seea passing fad.

EatATaco ,

Sure, but NFTs did not generate this many shovels being sold.

EatATaco ,

Lying requires intent to deceive. Honestly, at this point, I can’t be sure trump has any grip on reality so might actually believe that he never said it.

Falsely claims accurately depicts what happened without assuming intent. It’s a way to cover their butt.

EatATaco ,

What I would like is for them to show him the evidence and then see what he says.

EatATaco ,

Lying, by definition, requires an intent to deceive. I agree with you that groups 2 and 3 are where most false statements come from, but they aren’t lying, by definition.

EatATaco ,

I used to be straight but now im gay I think that law made me this way.

EatATaco ,

I wouldn’t say nothing like her, it’s uncomfortably close especially after being told no. But after the initial uproar, I was shocked how dissimilar it was when I actually heard it.

EatATaco ,

I grew up playing classical piano and saxophone. Moved into jazz saxophone and then jazz bass, and eventually played with a (terrible) rock band for a couple of years on bass. Technically (although I torture the term here a bit) I was a professional musician.

Not knowing anything else about you, it’s probably a safe bet to put my ear up against yours any day. And while I agree they are clearly different people, if you think they sound nothing alike the bet sounds even safer.

EatATaco ,

It’s funny that you think your stage damaged ears would be somehow “experienced” or whatever type of point you’re trying to make here.

I’ve spent my whole life training my ear by listening to and performing music with other people. . .and you can’t see the value of that when it comes to listening to stuff? Impressively ignorant.

In my first post (which you responded to) “I was shocked how dissimilar it was”

in my second post (which you responded to) “I agree they are clearly different people”

You in this post “you fail to make out the distinctions between the voices … you cannot hear the difference”

Man, you’re reading comprehension is even worse than your ear. lol

EatATaco ,

You also said they’re “uncomfortably close”

So, “uncomfortably close” now means I “fail to make out the distinctions”? This doesn’t even make sense on it’s own, but even less so when taken in context.

But nice cherry picking.

You picked only one phrase out of one of my comments, despite two others making it very clear I can tell the difference. And you have the nerve to then claim I’m cherry picking when I pointed to the parts of my statements that prove your accusation wrong? Holy shit, it never ceases to amaze me how blatantly dishonest people will be when they are wrong. lol

It’s okay to be wrong. We all fuck up. The important thing is to just admit it and move on, rather than try to pretend you weren’t wrong by projecting and lying.

EatATaco ,

Why the fuck are you even responding to me at this point?

Because I’m wondering how far you’ll go before you’ll admit that you were just wrong and made a mistake. Apparently, you’re ego is so fragile that you’ll leave before doing that, and blame me on the way out.

Funny. You are displaying all the traits you claim to hate about me.

EatATaco ,

I’ve been posting on message boards for decades. One common thing I’ve seen, which seems incredibly strange and I have no explanation for, is that every time I’ve come across an English poster using some form of vert in their username, they’ve been a huge idiot.

Granted, it’s only been a handful of times, so kind of anecdotal, but it’s amazing on consistent it is.

EatATaco ,

The guy has a dope, but do people really think they hate rainbows and not what this flag is supposed to represent?

EatATaco ,

Really? Sure as fuck? Well, this should be easy for you to prove then. Or were you lying?

EatATaco ,

I don’t see where in this article where it shows that “They sure as fuck complain every time they see a rainbow anywhere.”

It don’t even see where it shows this individual complaint when he sees a rainbow outside of on the flag.

Could you be more specific?

EatATaco ,

“Although secularized over the years to signify dreamy pot-o-gold optimism or new beginnings Somewhere over the Rainbow, it wasn’t until the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration in 1978 that the rainbow symbol was co-opted by the non-heterosexual lobby group.”

Nowhere in that does it say he complains everytime he sees a rainbow, let alone that all of them complain every time they see one, as you claimed.

Called it.

It’s not hard to predict that people will challenge your evidence when it doesn’t support your claims. But this is a good tactic when posting BS that doesn’t support your point.

EatATaco ,

I searched for what you told me to, copy and pasted it here, and it doesn’t even support your claim for that individual let alone for all right wing Christians as you said.

Certainly we can both agree that 0 evidence is not going to convince me. So it seems quite presumptuous to assume no amount of evidence could convince me.

your hard-on for attacking every post I make

Believe me, I bite my tongue plenty when I see your posts, so we both know it’s an outright lie that I attack every post you make.

You post here too much, and I post here too much. It’s not harassment that every few days we butt heads over something. It’s just what happens when people disagree.

EatATaco ,

Lol I didn’t attack you, I challenged you. You were the one who attacked my character over and over again.

EatATaco ,

What do you suggest as an alternative?

EatATaco ,

Easier to scream sexism than to think.

EatATaco ,

I agree.

Well, obviously, because that’s what youre doing.

EatATaco ,

I don’t get why people are so confident that this is a dumb move that won’t work. We know games are buggy at launch, and people rush to buy them anyway. And then the forums are filled with people losing their shit that the game has bugs in it and isn’t perfect. This idea that gamers are some patient group doesn’t reflect the reality I’ve seen over the past 2 decades.

EatATaco ,

And when people are mindlessly and unfairly judging people, we shouldn’t call them out? If I see someone being racist should I just throw up my hands and say “well people are going to people”?

And why aren’t you following your own advice and allowing me to people without being challenged?

EatATaco ,

This is hilarious. You responded to me first, I only addressed you have you jumped in. You are also not “unbiased” because you didn’t read the article either and defended the assumption, accusing me of assuming too. But not only that but making false assumptions about my position and then accusing me of being on a high horse. And you’re trying to pretend youre some neutral party. Lol

Whatever, my man. You want to let ignorant judgments go unaddressed, be my guest, but I’m going to people over here and call it out like it should be.

EatATaco ,

My comment had nothing to do with the article.

You were talking about how we (me and the top level commentor) were both fair in our assumption about what kind of person was that was willing to undergo the procedure. And the article is about people willing to undergo the procedure. So you were absolutely talking about the article. Not only that, but incorrectly claiming that my position was based on being equally as ignorant as you and the top level commentor, when my position was actually based on being knowledgeable by reading the comment.

EatATaco ,

The assumption you claimed I made was in relation to a fact I stated that’s in the article. Wtf are you on about, specifically?

EatATaco ,

You’re attempting to change what you accused me of assuming. But in your attempt to be not wrong, you made yourself even more wrong.

I made no assumption that they read the article. I was actually pretty sure they didn’t, in typical Lemmy fashion.

So it’s not actually you assuming. Lol

And why do you keep on acting like I’m the only one keeping this conversation going? You’ve responded to me as much as I’ve responded to you.

EatATaco ,

I don’t know why you’re even bothering with this

Should have known this was some sort of projection.

EatATaco ,

Your actions betray your words.

EatATaco ,

Look, it might not be true,

No, almost certainly won’t be true.

And if you think it’s even remotely likely that this will happen, it’s not me being being myopic.

EatATaco ,

Considering you think that “almost certainly” and “totally impossible” are the same thing, I guess your position should come as no surprise.
