I think because they are in the uncanny valley

Would they assume OP killed the bird, or is it illegal to pick up the skull? (Are the bones beneficial to other organisms?)

Random fact on the topic:

A rust plague in the late 1880s killed off much of the plantation stocks in the Sukabumi area before spreading to Central Java and parts of East Java.

How do we sleep while our beds are burning?

@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Not in my experience. 100% of people I know that have it, also have read it. We buy that because we’re Tolkien nerds. People who don’t want to read it don’t buy it. Also it’s not at all like yellow pages for looking stuff up, it’s more like the Bible I guess, a collection of mythological tales of old.

I guess there are some people that have inherited it, or just bought it for collecting, but I don’t think this is the main case.

It might be different for The History of Middle Earth, it’s huge and requires a lot of time, and it’s more yellow pagey as far as I understand. I have them but have not read much of it yet. (Maybe you meant these?)

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

That’s exactly my experience. It doesn’t help that I have the https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/The_History_of_Middle-earth#/media/File:The_History_of_Middle-earth_Boxed_Set.jpeg that has almost see through thin pages… 😅

The Silmarillion I have also read multiple times though, both in English and German.

Same, and also when someone creates a new post on my communities :3

(Just also look after yourself not to get social media addicted, okay? 🥺)

Because you passed the gate, out of this fake world into the reality.

Sadly I don’t remember specific titles. When I think of this music I picture badly rendered 3D landscape and violently erupting volcanoes 🤔

CaptainBlagbird OP ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah probably synthwave or close to it if there even was a name for it.

I’m still trying to find examples

CaptainBlagbird OP ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Could you be thinking of old educational videos that were played in schools?

Yeah probably, but I think I also watched stuff like that on TV.

Maybe like Bill Nye or Eyewitness?

Not the first one, the second one is closer but too “tropical”.

If you do find an example, it would help a lot to narrow it down

I keep searching

CaptainBlagbird OP ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

This is very close!

I guess a lot of documentaries used similar copyright free music, that thus sounded “simpler” (lower production quality).

CaptainBlagbird OP ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Oooh of course, how could I forget them, yes Vangelis is the closest so far!

CaptainBlagbird OP ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, that’s the stuff :D

Thanks

Now that’s an analogy I can understand.

I’d say you can post them to both, and check the upvotes.

Loss has some of the most original and ingenious variations, that’s what I like about it. I’ve never seen other memes close to it. It’s completely different to all the text-over-established-image memes.

  • There is nothing you can say about it that is funny or clever. We have heard it all before. Just don’t.
  • If you do have something to say about it that is truly original and absolutely hilarious, see the previous rule.

What if I am said celebrity though? 🤔

Ach echt??!

I thought the emoji would be enough, but I guess I should have added the “/s”

What's your favorite Enigma / Riddle / Sentence Puzzle?

Tomorrow is a big event at my university. I’d like to make a fun thing where the people of the Board Game society I am in can try to find me for a riddle, kind of a Where is Waldo in a place where there is a crap tone of people to find the NPC that’ll give them a Riddle (Maybe something to win? No idea how I could do that...

yes, no, maybe, can you repeat the question?

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

What usually has 4 letters, sometimes 9 letters, but never 5 letters.

!It’s not a question, it’s a statement: “what”=4, “sometimes”=9, “never”=5!<

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

I know a similar one where you say some kind of finger counting verse, in the end you put your arms akimbo and request the other person(s) repeat it. It doesn’t matter if they get the finger counting right, because it only counts if they also get the akimbo correct.

It’s fun to do in a group of slightly drunk people, until all got it but one. Then it feels like bullying… :/

I love Black Stories, this was the first one I have solved/played years ago.

It’s AI generated, squint your eyes to reveal text (or place your phone across the room and look at it from a distance).

But also yes, breeding m[redacted] cats is horrible and should not be promoted.

To the Blüemlisalp-Hut which is at 2840m above sea level. Uff what a bad timing with the hail 🙈 On clear days it’s so beautiful up there by the glacier. I worked there some time ago over multiple weeks. (It might even be possible that we’ve met, depending on the year/date you visited).

I hiked up/down there more than anywhere else (probably about 25 times). The very first time I started too fast and overestimated my condition a bit, it was nice to feel my limits. Later, my record time for hiking up was just above 2h. I tried to be faster, but never managed to crack that 2h mark. Oh well… (The signpost says 4h10, and/but a normal paced hike took me about 3h.)

On a side note: Last year the glacier was significantly smaller than the previous years, that really was a shock to see with my own eyes rather than “just reading about it in a news article” 🥺

It flies there by autopilot, no delivery person/vehicle needed ;)

FTFY (formatting)

Until one week ago I was using an old Samsung S20 with good results. I moved to a mini PC as I wanted to host Immich server and I felt it was too much for the phone (it might not be the case though…)

A quick extract from an old post of mine on what I was running:

Software:

  • Termux (android app)
  • SSH (OpenSSH in Termux)
  • Rclone (in Termux)
  • Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Prowlarr (in proot-distro)
  • Transmission (in proot-distro)
  • Kavitha (in proot-distro)
  • Podgrab (in proot-distro)
  • Ombi (in proot-distro)
  • ntfy (in proot-distro)
  • Filebrowser (in proot-distro)
  • Vaultwarden (in proot-distro)
  • Homer with lighttpd (in proot-distro)

TLDR: Go for it! Use Termux with proot-distro to avoid headaches

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Were you able to use the phone Bluetooth in HomeAssistant?

(Or do you not have access to interfaces like that with proot-distro? I’m not at all familiar with it…)
