For sure instead of having your child scarred for life from a vaccine like the picture shows, a mild case of death is preferable.

Stay safe out there, vaccines contain stuff with long words that sound dangerous. There are also many rumors that vaccines can cause all sorts of weird things you wouldn’t believe.

In case you wonder, this is sarcasm.

Buffalox ,

Religion is perfect for making normal people act like a bunch of sociopaths.

Buffalox ,

Higher temperature is equal to more energy in the atmosphere, the result is worse hurricanes.

Buffalox ,

I think it’s 38 degrees celsius for Americans too. But I’m not quite sure, could also be 2 ounces, their system is kind of weird.

Buffalox ,

Metric:

10 mm = 1cm, 100 cm = 1m, 1000 mm = 1m, 1000m = 1 km.

1 cm3 water = 1 gram

1 Watt heats 1 gram of water 1 C°

1 dm3 water = liter = 1 kg

1 m3 = 1000 kg = 1 tonne

Imperial:

1 mile = ?? yards = ?? feet = ?? inches

1 ton = ?? stone = ??punds = ?? oz = ?? grain

1 Galon = ?? pints = ?? fluid ounce

1 inch3 = ?? grain = ?? power to heat ?? fahrenheit

There is no system to any of these, they are unscientific and impractical.

How does Imperial still have any relevance as a measurement system?

Buffalox ,

Yes, you could say Imperial is easier, because you’d never calculate anything in your head, you ask Google.

But how did that even work before we had Internet?

Buffalox ,

if you read the T&C

Just because it’s stated in T&C doesn’t mean it’s necessarily legally binding.

Buffalox ,

Yes it does, when the court dismisses a case, it’s equivalent to the case failing in that court. Reddit won by default.

It’s actually the clearest victory you can get, as the court deems there are absolutely no grounds for the case against reddit.

Buffalox ,

European values are irrelevant for being a NATO member. But I believe being a democracy is a requirement, but USA is a somewhat flawed democracy too. But hen again no democracy is perfect.

Buffalox ,

That doesn’t even make any sense. Erdogan has done nothing but backpedal on all the efforts Turkey had done before him to increase cooperation and become a member of EU. Erdogan clearly does NOT want Turkey to become a member of EU.

Also it’s completely unrealistic for Erdogan to wish to Join EU before Sweden becomes a member of NATO. In NATO all members want Sweden in, except Turkey and Hungary. In EU there are ZERO countries that want Turkey in the EU. So how would he realistically imagine it would be possible for Turkey to join EU before Sweden joins NATO.

Turkey is probably more at risk of being thrown out of NATO, unless they begin to moderate their behavior. Technically they don’t meet the requirements to be a member of NATO anymore.

Buffalox ,

Absolutely, use the Wikipedia model, ask for donations with a target to cover cost.

Buffalox ,

Yes that would absolutely make sense too.

Buffalox ,

I think they named the soft drink Mønster after him:.

Fronkensteens Mønster.

Buffalox ,

Funny observation, but admittedly I fit 100%

I’ve seen people post about “understanding” Lemmy and the fediverse, and “figurring out” how it works, although it seems pretty straightforward. If this is a barrier for some people, preventing them from joining, I think that might be a benefit.

I’ve seen statistics saying the dominant age group on reddit is around 13 years. I don’t mind teenagers participating, that’s good. But they shouldn’t dominate, if they do it becomes to much like a “follow me, I’m blind too.” community.

It seems to me the debates here are better than on reddit. I hope we don’t lose that.

Buffalox ,

Yeah kids today are everything the grownups complained about when I was a kid. ;)

Buffalox ,

That’s exactly what Elon Musk wants, and what could be expected from a South African white supremacist raised on the fortunes of an Emerald mine.

Buffalox ,

No you are wrong. Musk constantly align himself with the Maga crowd, the anti liberal and anti woke. If he is not an extreme right totalitarian, he sure acts like one. Of course he is also a narcissist and without principles. But being without principles doesn’t mean being without opinions.

Buffalox ,

When he needed to finance Tesla, he used all the environment arguments to gain public incentives and leverage for electric cars. Which was in line with leftist policies, but for Musk it was for his personal benefit.

Later we have seen that he is not really an environmentalist. Obstructing public transport projects and building rockets.

That he is a Trumpist began to become clear when he held 2 economy advisory postions under Trump, and he refused to leave them, when they were revealed to be nothing but instruments for Trump corruption.

He does everything a fascist would do, he fights unions vigorously, and he is proven racist and anti LGBT. Not a liberal minded person at all, and he believes fascists should be allowed to propagandize on Twitter.

Buffalox ,

I know Musk managed to get someone to foot half the bill for him, why they did that I have no idea. But you are right, they might absolutely have an agenda too.

Buffalox ,

But why did he change? He was praised for Tesla for “saving the world” with electric cars. He had no reason from that perspective to change side.

The change of side and pandering to the extreme right is because he is showing his true colors now.

Buffalox ,

An 18 day period? Weird, but I wouldn’t put to much into that.

Still kinda funny to see Huawei up by 52%

Buffalox , (edited )

I don’t get it, it’s a high end Sony Camera with OIS? The review describes it as “flagship-grade Sony IMX890.”

It’s also praised in other places for being very good, in basically all aspects like low light, density, colors and for video.

It’s not just a good camera, but a VERY good camera.

Buffalox ,

Wow, that seems like a pretty solid option for a nice quality mid range phone.

I don’t tolerate crapware and I don’t compromise on that. and as I understand it, this phone doesn’t have any.

Buffalox ,

Yes I can see what you mean, Seems a bit reddish, and a bit sharpened, which doesn’t flatter the motives. But I suspect the light conditions and the motives don’t promote best results. Despite that they call the portraits “superb”.

But I understand competition is steep in this range, so maybe there are better options? Personally I think I’d be very happy with this one.

Buffalox ,

Absolutely defederate from threads immediately from anything threads related.

Threads will collect any and all data they can about users disregarding which server you are on, and not agreeing to their business practices.

There’s a reason they are not in the EU, including NI despite being in UK. And that’s probably because their practices are illegal, and don’t respect the rights of their users according to EU regulation.

The second Lemmy federates with Threads, I’m out of here.

Buffalox ,

One of the worst parts from the “article” which is wildly misdirecting:

According to the App Store listing for the Threads app, it collects a variety of data, which stands out in comparison to the Mastodon app, which collects none. However, this affects only those who download and use the Threads app,

This is most probably decidedly false. Meta has always and will probably continue to collects whatever data they can, they build databases of relations, and collect not only on their users, but also the people their users have contact with.

If you write a message to a Threads user, you can be pretty sure as much as possible from that message is collected. Not just the message, but also any metadata that can be used to identify you and any context you are in.

Buffalox ,

That’s a bummer, hope EU will keep a keen eye on them then. Unfortunately USA and UK have a history of not doing shit.

Buffalox ,

Yes you are right. They can. I wasn’t thinking straight.

Buffalox ,

Yes you are right, it was a brainfart on my part.

Buffalox ,

I wouldn’t use that kind of insider joke on a social media. Chances are that at most 10% get it. The rest will be rightfully offended.

Buffalox ,

Yeah well, my teeth were so tight you couldn’t squeeze any floss through. My dentists generally refused to believe it and one insisted on demonstrating. After squeezing very hard, he finally succeeded getting the floss through, at which time the floss immediately broke. Zero flossing actually occurred, the dentist was embarrassed and confused, and pretended it didn’t happen, and made no comment about what else I should do, since I CLEARLY couldn’t floss. Only result was I had a piece of floss stuck, and It took me weeks to finally get rid of that frigging floss thread from between my teeth.

Quite frankly, I’m more than a little tired of reading mundane advise for people with normal teeth, who probably know this already.

Yes people who have ordinary teeth, can use this common and obvious advise.

Buffalox ,

I later found out to flush thoroughly. It would have been great to have been advised on that 25 years ago, instead of the constant talk about flossing.

Flushing really is extremely efficient, I never tried a waterpick, but I’m guessing that’s even better.

Buffalox ,

Yes that’s basically it, you can get special mouthwash to use instead of water. that should prevent bacteria for longer. I generally just use water, but I do it each time I’ve brushed my teeth. And it really makes a difference.

Buffalox ,

It was the flat one he used, and yes I’ve tries with the Oral B Satin too. Apart from not working for me, it doesn’t seem to be able to do much cleaning even if it did.

I flush or rinse whatever it’s called instead. That works fine for me.

Buffalox ,

Maybe the war on crime?

Or could it be the war on poverty?

No I think it’s the war on drugs.

No now I have it for sure, the war on terror! Yes that’s the one.

War on obesity?

But the war they REALLY need to win, is the war on idiocy, but I’m afraid it’s a lost cause too.

Buffalox ,

it (karma) actually changes how quickly your post hits hot and the front page.

Now I remember I suspected this, before I deleted my account a couple of years ago. I bet that’s contributing to reddit getting worse. It breaks the user response mechanic.

Buffalox ,

I’ve been using Osmand for years, it works fine here in Denmark. I just use the standard maps.

Offline functionality used to be very important to me, but not so much anymore. Still I’d hate my map to stop working, just because I don’t have good enough signal.

Buffalox ,

You got wiser, which was the idea, yes?

Buffalox ,

Why does she get off so cheap with only 30 days?

She could have completely ruined the lives of those people, as bad as if she had tried to kill them with a knife.

This is actually a form of assault, and should be punished way harder IMO.

Buffalox ,

#1 would be the phone app, pretty handy for calling people in real time. without it, I would probably have to carry a phone too.

#2 Would be SMS, these are quite handy for quick messages without interrupting something important.

#3 GPS maps, I have the most amazing sense of orientation, that basically guarantees I never end up where I’m supposed to, unless I have GPS.

You may take these functions for granted children. But back in the day, maps were something you had in the glove compartment of your car. Phones were something you had on the wall, with a long wire hanging out of them, to connect you to a wired network. Messages was something you send on paper, put a stamp on, and posted through the postal service.

Of course compared to back then, a smartphone has plenty more clever functions. Like the calculator, which we did either in the head or more complex calculations were done on paper.

But I guess these aren’t what you kids were looking for. But they are actually quite amazing, even if you take them for granted. ;)

Yes camera is very cool too. Especially compared to buying film and then have to have them developed. Which was pretty expensive. The quality of pictures from a modern phone is even way way better.

I knew you meant apps besides “default” or the obvious, I just came to think how different it is today with smartphones, compared to before we had the first mobile phones. Which brings us back to the very early 80’s. So I posted as mostly a joke, but also as a reminder that smartphones are pretty amazing IMO. ;)

PS. I’m from Denmark, and we were very early with first generation nationwide mobile network NMT already in 1982. And a phone for it could be had for as cheap as $7000. How time flies.

Buffalox ,

If I recall correctly, Digg made some weirdo policy about officially recognized channels had priority over community posts?

Claiming they were trying to improve the quality and trustworthiness of their content.

They also made a redesign, so frontpage became 90% pictures, more suitable for people with zero attention span.

As I recall it, Digg “died” super fast after that. Of course technically Digg still exist, but it’s nothing compared to when at its height, it became an internet buzzword much like “to Google it” still is to day.

Buffalox ,

Yes the problem was that they changed the concept entirely, and the change was to a concept that simply didn’t work. The idea of “approved” content, was so lame everybody left.

Personally I had already left for reddit at that time, but the original idea with Digg was pretty cute though, they had a little icon of a spade, and you could digg up or down. Same as up/down vote on reddit.

Somehow reddit was just better, with it’s way more text based design, maybe because it looked a bit like a colorcoding editor for programmers. for whatever reason reddit quickly had way better content than Digg, despite Digg was more famous and had a clear head start.

Wow, that's actually amazing IMO. It's a tiny reality detail. Heads generally aren't symmetrical.

Buffalox ,

I’m a big guy a bit over 6 feet, but my wife is way better at fixing cars than I am. I can change a tire or the oil or other very basic stuff. But she can make actual repairs, like adjusting timing belt, mount a tow bar, change a ball joint. Where afterwards things actually pass safety check which is mandatory in Denmark.

I’ve even been complimented by mechanics for her work, because I’m always the one driving our cars to check afterwards.

I would NEVER have a problem with a woman fixing my car. On the contrary I bet a female mechanic has had to prove herself more than most, so I’m guessing chances are higher that a female mechanic is actually pretty good.
