Why does she get off so cheap with only 30 days?

She could have completely ruined the lives of those people, as bad as if she had tried to kill them with a knife.

This is actually a form of assault, and should be punished way harder IMO.

#1 would be the phone app, pretty handy for calling people in real time. without it, I would probably have to carry a phone too.

#2 Would be SMS, these are quite handy for quick messages without interrupting something important.

#3 GPS maps, I have the most amazing sense of orientation, that basically guarantees I never end up where I’m supposed to, unless I have GPS.

You may take these functions for granted children. But back in the day, maps were something you had in the glove compartment of your car. Phones were something you had on the wall, with a long wire hanging out of them, to connect you to a wired network. Messages was something you send on paper, put a stamp on, and posted through the postal service.

Of course compared to back then, a smartphone has plenty more clever functions. Like the calculator, which we did either in the head or more complex calculations were done on paper.

But I guess these aren’t what you kids were looking for. But they are actually quite amazing, even if you take them for granted. ;)

If I recall correctly, Digg made some weirdo policy about officially recognized channels had priority over community posts?

Claiming they were trying to improve the quality and trustworthiness of their content.

They also made a redesign, so frontpage became 90% pictures, more suitable for people with zero attention span.

As I recall it, Digg “died” super fast after that. Of course technically Digg still exist, but it’s nothing compared to when at its height, it became an internet buzzword much like “to Google it” still is to day.

Personally I had already left for reddit at that time, but the original idea with Digg was pretty cute though, they had a little icon of a spade, and you could digg up or down. Same as up/down vote on reddit.

Somehow reddit was just better, with it’s way more text based design, maybe because it looked a bit like a colorcoding editor for programmers. for whatever reason reddit quickly had way better content than Digg, despite Digg was more famous and had a clear head start.

USA has always had serious sociological problems, back in the 70’s it at least looked like there was a will for progress, but not so much anymore. Yes there are still good people in USA, but there is an overwhelmingly large portion of people who actively desire and even work towards making conditions worse.

It’s amazing what Valve has done for Linux on the game front. I switched to Linux in 2005, and back then it was so bad, you practically had to dual boot to game. When I stopped dual booting, and went heavy with custom Wine configurations for each game, it was still like a walk in the desert.

Now Linux gaming is absolutely amazing IMO, maybe not quite on par with Windows, but sometimes it actually works better on Linux for old games, because compatibility with old 32 bit Dos based Windows, is better with Wine or Proton, than using original Windows later than Windows 98.

Steve Huffman is pissing all over Aaron Swartz’s grave, and completely abandoning the ideals that was once a foundation of Reddit. Reddit was originally open source, Aaron died in 2013, and by 2017, Reddit had abandoned the open source / community philosophy entirely.
