What have I learned today? The internet may roast you for using inexpensive and in the same sentence. šŸ˜…

With that said, any or adults have experience living in a micro apartment? What was it like for you?

Iā€™m in the middle of a big move to a small rental & I almost missed Late-Identified AuDHDā€™s first birthday. ALMOST!

About thirty minutes to midnight I looked at my bookshelf, saw my 1st copy, remembered I forgot to do a cover reveal for the upcoming second edition, and decided to celebrate with a post and a Reeseā€™s egg.

Moving, meltdowns, shutdowns, strainā€”none of that is funā€”but this egg? Systematically peeling it is joy.

Autistics can be extroverts. There are extroverted autistics. Social-emotional reciprocity or social communication ā€œdeficitsā€ sometimes outshine the deep need for social connection. Never assume because someone is autistic that they arenā€™t revitalized by social events or donā€™t love to socialize.

My spouse delights me. I've been rumbling this week as we get ready for a move and swamped by shame for my reactionsā€”I hate feeling out of control.

They gave me a gift. I did not respond to the gift, felt awful for not acknowledging it, and then excessively apologized.

Being present with someone when they are working through the initial discovery phases of late-identified without info dumping is challenging. Is there any value in pursuing a potential autism diagnosis as an adult, if a person gets along well enough in life and isn't interested in finding community?

BZBrainz ,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@smeg Difficult to answer. I've known many people driven simply by a desire to understand 'why.' And I'd be very interested to know how this person defines "gets along well enough?" @actuallyautistic

BZBrainz ,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@smeg @actuallyautistic Many people who did not know me well would have said I got on well enoughā€”a challenging social barometerā€”and they would have been wrong. Though I'll admit, if I hadn't needed help, had deficits not been perceived by the doctor, I'd have not likely pursued diagnosis on my own due to stigma and internalized ableism.

BZBrainz ,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@smeg @actuallyautistic I simply didn't know I needed more knowledge, support, and tools to help myself than I had ever been allowed before. It was inconceivable to me that there were skills I could lear or accommodations I could ask for that could make some parts of life less challenging.

I'm going to throw this out there and it may sound a bit controversial, but keep in mind I have nearly 20 years's experience as an entrepreneur. Because I'm not seeing anyone doing anything different from the NTs. @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics

My writing is a blend of typing and dictatingā€”typing at my 8-year-old Mac when I need to be lost in music, zoomy thumbs while drowning in crowded spaces, and dictating to my phone when I am too restless to hold still. Chronic pain and competing needs heavily influence how I choose to write.

BZBrainz OP ,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@wizzwizz4 I've tried many times to make this all fit in one toot. I write linearlyā€”this makes compilation easy since I don't jump around the way I do when I casually speak or think. Writing differences get smoothed out in revisions and become less frequent with practice. At times, I may type/dictate in the same session. @writers
