Well, Linux is already on the desktop. I don’t know what the blog mean.

About Wayland, it still need time even if people says it’s ready and blabla, I even had issues with Flatpak+Wayland so… keep on X11 to make sure all works.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s funny because I only see stupid bugs on Apple and people still thinks it’s premium material. It’s buggy shit (bad UIX), expensive as shit.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

What?.. Premium is just like a tier, quality, aesthetic and exclusivity can be on premium tier perfectly, I don’t know what you want to say with that.

Apple users are ignorant and buys Apple products lied by marketing thinking they’re getting premium products, quality, aesthetic or exclusivity, whatever, but Apple tries to make them feel like a premium product while it’s basically trash and worse than a Windows.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

You can remove that, if you are good with Windows you can clean up that pretty much. The problem with Apple is their UI bugged, stupid bugs and lack of decent UI like grid Windows and more features that just Windows has by default, and KDE has even much more. Pretty stupid to pay for an Apple.

He says it’s based, not that is Unix.

Aradia , (edited )
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

But on the same links you sent are saying:

A Linux-based system is a modular Unix-like operating system, deriving much of its basic design from principles established in Unix during the 1970s and 1980s.

What difference are between “-based” and “-like”? If the meaning are the same then I’m right, if Unix-based means must be like a fork directly from Unix and not just a copy build from 0, then yeah, you are right. And I think based and like are the same meaning.

Edit:
I also found this image: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Unix_timeline.en.svg

Unix timeline: Unix timeline where Linux is also present

Edit 2:

I just asked to ChatGPT and seems the AI can explain this:

“Unix-like” and “Unix-based” are terms used in the realm of operating systems, particularly in relation to the Unix operating system and its derivatives. While they may seem similar, they convey slightly different concepts:

Unix-like:

  • “Unix-like” refers to operating systems that resemble Unix in terms of design, behavior, or functionality, but may not necessarily be directly derived from the original Unix codebase.
  • These operating systems typically adhere to Unix-like principles and may incorporate similar features, commands, and programming interfaces.
  • Examples of Unix-like operating systems include Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and macOS (which is based on a Unix-like kernel called Darwin).

Unix-based:

  • “Unix-based” specifically indicates operating systems that have a direct lineage or heritage tracing back to the original Unix operating system developed at Bell Labs in the 1970s.
  • These operating systems often have their roots in the Unix codebase, either through direct licensing agreements, re-implementations, or forks of the original Unix source code.
  • Examples of Unix-based operating systems include various commercial Unix variants such as Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX, which have historical ties to the original Unix.

In essence, while both terms relate to systems that share similarities with Unix, “Unix-like” suggests a broader category of Unix-inspired operating systems, while “Unix-based” specifically denotes those with a direct lineage or relationship to the original Unix system.

So you are right, and they probably wanted to mean Unix-like. But we could still say based as both has some kind of relationship, and that’s why Linux it’s on Unix timeline from wiki.

Society will collapse, and I hope finally Capitalism will end, I hope then we will start enjoying of just living the life without believing you need more stuff to be happy. Just enjoy the time alone or with company doing nothing and chill. And 4 hours a day to fix your home or garden/plants. Life is pretty simple.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

But there are many kinds of society collapse, with the climate change I doubt we will be better than Haiti. Not because of criminality.

Dell is so frustrating

Dell has got to be one of the most frustrating companies that put out a linux laptop. They put out a laptop certified for ubuntu but then never support newer releases. A big part of their hardware is always proprietary drivers like webcam, fingerprint reader etc… Then you update to a new LTS release because lets be serious...

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Exactly, never going to buy any Dell anymore… I’m so pissed with their XPS 13 issues.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not a waste of time, you live once, you die forever, once dead, you will have all the time you have lost in life. Anyway, even if this life sucks… it’s the only thing we have to feel, often we fall on depressions but normally people that is able to be online posting here, they are often better than 90% of the people on the world, you probably have food and everything you need, and you can do much more or much less as you please. Bad feelings/depression often blind ourselves, so be happy and motivated even if you are depressed, those bad and good feelings are just like leaves moving by wind, they come and go as they please. Often our depression and lack of happiness is caused by our gens and survival instinct.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Cured and very funny.

Aradia , (edited )
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Nope, just saying other people has less, and they can be as happy as anyone. What I want to say is that most of the depressions is mental, happiness is proven than it’s 45% genetics or like that, I don’t remember now, but the difference between someone happy and someone who gets depressed often are mostly the genetics.

So what I am saying is, there are people that has less than you, and they have fun and are happy.

EDIT:

Telling me I’m not allowed to feel sad etc because others have it worse?

Never said that, but go angry mode. Go. I said we need to deal with our sadness.

Aradia ,

You are just talking like mad, being rude. I never said there is a cure. LMAO I suppose you really have an issue to enjoy your life, I’m sorry…

Alcohol (beer, wine…).

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s proven that is toxic for our organisms. It hurts our body and creates depressions.

False,

“No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health” - who.int/…/04-01-2023-no-level-of-alcohol-consumpt…

There is a safe level of oxygen and water you not only can, but must take. Your phrase sounds cool, but it’s 100% misinformation.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Alcohol is popular because also improves your socialization, could be linked perfectly, but I’m not an expert to say it. And smoking cigarettes is also bad and isn’t banned, while weed is safer than those two addictions, and it’s still mostly illegal. There are reasons, and hippies are probably the cause, government wanted to criminalize them and their love movement. If alcohol keeps you down, and quiet, the government will not care to ban even if it’s bad for your health, they need the companies to keep winning money.

If I’m not wrong, Fedora as stable release too will ship Plasma 6 in next month, they’re doing tests now.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, I heard Debian users says they will need to wait a full year, and it’s obvious I put 5 instead of a 6, was a typo… But thanks to let me know, Plasma 5 was released 10 years ago (I would say a bit more).

Aradia ,

I have been working on Windows, macOS and Linux. And I never learned more than working with Linux, as I am a programmer, every debugging tool or programming tool (unless for apple) works perfectly and natively, as docker that runs natively without real emulators like WSL that gives you more issues with your contained apps and developments.

About DE, MacOS DE sucks, you can’t even grid Windows… Windows DE is much better but still, their shell sucks, terminals sucks, lack of customization of your windows (I’m using KDE I love it and is the best for programming as I have much more control of each windows like pin above others windows and simple features like those that makes KDE perfectly for work, Plasma 6 even faster, less resources…).

What you said isn’t the truth, is just your own and personal perspective. Other people perspectives: duncanlock.net/…/using-windows-after-15-years-on-…

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

MS not being able to run on Linux is a problem with Microsoft, not Linux. Still you can do it paying to crossover, the owners of Wine, they do and offer it, just report them every time Microsoft tries to break the compatibility.

See? Just because it isn’t your perspective doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

That’s just what I tell you and what you are replying to. I know posts of people saying they prefer Linux, and they aren’t into tech or programming, just are used to it already. You got used to Windows because it’s the first OS you get when you buy a new laptop.

Before me using Linux 100%, sometimes I thought some issues I had on Linux was because of Linux, when I switched back to Windows, I realized I don’t only have the same issues but even more to fit the DE or tools, the system is heavier in many aspects. The system update both on Windows and Apple sucks… there are many reasons I dislike Windows and Apple. Now I like the Fedora stability and Arch Linux repo builds and deps. I can play the games I truly like and even much more than what I really want to play, so I see Windows or Mac a stupid option I can really not understand why people use them, and yes, this is 100% my personal own perspective.

Also, iptables rocks.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Haha, that’s funny but as a real programmer working for a shitty company that forces me to work on a shitty Apple I can tell you I can’t just use tmux, I need web browser/s (Jira, Git site for collaborations with team, for reading documentation), MS teams, Keepass or similar, etc… But if they allowed me, I might try to just use Emacs as an OS itself, then I wouldn’t worry about Apple or Windows.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

No, it isn’t a problem of MS nor of Linux. It a problem for people who’ve to be productive on those solutions and that’s why Linux isn’t a good fit for them.

You can’t expect to waltz in some office and have people tolerate broken documents of some format and/or the subsequent productivity losses - it just takes you making a few slides for your boss while using LibreOffice and once he opens the document you’ve misaligned items, game over. :)

Lol, it’s related, MS breaks the compatibility with Linux on purpose, so why would Linux community care if Microsoft decides to not be able to run on a Linux? Because it’s clearly on purpose, just do your own research, as I did. Linux community can try to adapt to Microsoft document styles, but if you want to work with Microsoft Office tools, don’t expect having support to work with them on Linux… the reason is obvious, that would kill Microsoft, the same they do with the video game monopoly, trying to buy all the companies to keep the monopoly.

No, it doesn’t. nftables is the only sane and sensible thing that was built considering modern networking and scalability concerns not hacked and dragged along for decades.

Whatever, Linux firewall rocks.

Even soap and water (or hot water) is bad if you do it too often, doing every day is bad for the body, as it removes the natural protection your skin produces and NEEDS, and you don’t need the skin care products unless it is for some issues you have on your skin (medical reason). Those products often creates more issues with your skin. We should always visit an expert on skin care with studies and stop following random people.

A hyperlink to a YouTube with a “si” tracking tag… so good we have bots to fix this. 😆

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

But we are talking about skincare in general, right? Sunscreen is good to protect your skin from sun and very recommendable, but the OP isn’t asking sunscreen, he is asking for general products and what I have seen on internet, there is a lot of abuse of those products and misinformation, that’s why I would go to an expert to know the best for your skin, as every skin is different.

Can use the Telegram to download torrents media (videos, movies, music), why not?

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not a torrent but an alternative to download piracy content, as you could go to another web service like Lemmy or Youtube. Many webs have their code private also. On Telegram, at least the frontend is open source.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Well if you refer to the torrent to DDL then you are right that there are other better ways. But as he said channels also, I know it’s easy to find movies and series searching on channels, so I thought he meant that.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

On Linux, you install things from a repository, which is harder to install or execute a malicious binary. Reducing the risk of running binaries from unknown sources from internet, the risks are minimum if you keep your system always up to date, and on Linux is easier than on Windows, a single command to update each and any component on your system.

Doesn’t capitalism need kids to have more workers and consumers?

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

Well, I don’t think this is what capitalist wants, but it’s more about Japanese society issue influenced by ads and social issues. Capitalism can make this issue worse as they don’t really care about people health, they just want positive numbers.

Aradia ,

And a smartphone needs a user to use it…

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m an arch Linux user and I like most of the distros, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, RockyOS… I try different distros too, my problem is that I will always return to Arch Linux and a simple i3wm environment… but I like GNOME, KDE and the awesome Wayland. It’s just I like what I am used to and goes faster, and I can use the same tools as always. xdotool for example, the alternative for Wayland is ydotool which is a daemon running as root to emulate a device and I dislike the idea of doing that, root? systemctl daemon? Hmm…

But I could be totally good with fedora, at the end I just want the i3wm environment and the wonderful bash or zsh terminal (like alacritty) to interact with Linux. Best OS than Apple and Windows. Funny how Apple interface sucks so much, they lack from smart UI, Windows 11 forces you to log in, their UI is messed up, good thing is their desktop is smart enough to grid windows, and their terminals sucks, PowerShell has good things, but it’s not the same… c:an\'tfindPaths/ and I don’t really see the good on Object-oriented on terminal and stuff like apple being able to render high quality image on your terminal so you can see on a normal prompt a 8k image on the same terminal app… wtf, and they are even closed and people/companies pays for it.

I rarely leave my home and I still use socks every day, and I still change them every day… I have many of them and are very short ones, so it’s easy to wash them all together on the wash machine. Feels like a protector to use with my slippers.

Aradia ,
@Aradia@lemmy.ml avatar

The problem is not the people who live far from decent public transport but those people who live in the city and uses it every day, on city, all roads are always for vehicles like cars and trucks, instead to be for pedestrian and for bikes. On bad connected places a car can make sense but most of the people in city have cars when they rarely go outside, they could rent a car and would be cheaper for them for those days they need to move away. About EV, I think we still have the same problem, but the waste it generates keeps on ground instead flying on air.
