Just posted my review of Everything to Hide by K.V. Martins: https://www.austcrimefiction.org/review/everything-hide-kv-martins

It's going to come as no surprise to any readers of EVERYTHING TO HIDE, that author K.V. Martins is a fan of historical crime fiction, in particular, the work of Dame Agatha Christie. It should also come as no surprise that she has a background in history and archaeology.

I've got a small number of paperback copies of FOURTH WORLD that I'm giving away in advance of the last book in the series coming out this fall. Billed as Atlantis on Mars with time travel (and chock-full of and otherwise characters)! This would also be a great gift for a teen in your life or a donation to an LGBT teen center. I'm giving these away for free but I can only ship to US addresses. Let me know if you're interested! @lgbtqbookstodon

From The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler:

"Another man sat at the corner of the desk in a blue leather chair, a cold-eyed hatchet-faced man, as lean as a rake and as hard as the manager of a loan office. His neat well-kept face looked as if it had been shaved within the hour. He wore a well-pressed brown suit and there was a black pearl in his tie. He had the long nervous fingers of a man with a quick brain. He looked ready for a fight." @bookstodon

A hypothetical, but entirely realistic, conversation I could have.

Friend: What have you been doing lately?

Me: Reading a textbook on the economic history of the world.

Friend: Why?

Me: I challenged myself to read a book on and ended up choosing this one.

Friend: Did you ever study economics in school? Or work in the field?

Me: No, I just read random textbooks for fun.

The Other Talmud - The Yerushalmi by Rabbi Judith Z. Abrams, PhD (Jewish Lights).

We enjoy reading books by our authors also from other presses, and this one was cool too!

We published two other books by Rabbi Abrams - we'll thread them below.

Of course, the dogs went and knocked over the table moments after I took this picture. Way to harsh my vibe, guys. 😡

The book club I found because someone was literally asking for people to start a book club (for solo game devs).

I haven’t been on here long enough to recommend anything, but I do like the community on mastodon quite a lot.

What kind of stuff are you looking for? I’m still looking for a “home” community on lemmy/kbin personally. Thought I might even start one…

The Penultimate Truth
Philip K. Dick

Part of the SF Masterworks Collection. Despite being nearly 60 years old the narrative around the manipulation of the truth feels incredibly prescient. Wondering whether David Whitaker had read it before he came up with story The Enemy of the World.

The History Man by Malcolm Bradbury

Enjoyed it in the main and there is some smart and witty story in there. Suffers reading it now from the fact the world it is satirising doesn’t really exist any more.
