Neat Nick’s Big Mess is an adorable picture book focusing on OCD and anxiety.
Chad Otis’ illustrations and story are charming and warm. I just fell in love with this friendly big dog. It is a wonderful story full of love and friendship that young readers, especially dog lovers, will adore !

This book keeps chugging along. It came out in 1999. I just got a royalty payment of >300. I only get royalties twice a year, but that's not bad on a book that old. It's nice to know it's still being read.

Adults might read their favorite books a couple of times a year, but toddlers sometimes want you to plough through the same old story on 20 consecutive nights, and there aren’t many books that are enjoyable at the end of a run like that. LitHub has created a ranking system that takes in parent and toddler tolerability. See the results here (“Elephant and Piggie” fans, brace yourselves). Tell us your picks in the comments.

https://popular.info/p/florida-school-district-removes-dictionaries

PS: It turns out to be a myth that Victorians covered piano legs for the sake of modesty. But one day people will hear that Floridians removed dictionaries from school libraries for the sake of modesty, or prudery, or protecting the children, and wonder whether it's a myth. The truth will be out there, but not in Florida libraries.

Sometimes censorship is so inane that it looks like self-parody.

A world where we only have that everyone approves is a world where we have no books at all. We need to trust professional librarians to make the best decisions, even when we don't always agree.

Let's start the new year with knowledge! Each of the titles shown here is known as "A Just Ask Book" from an introductory science education series published by Weekly Reader before the millennium. There are about twice as many titles in this series than are shown here.

As if children's books aren't already losing visibility due to censorship now this...

This year Goodreads has removed all children's books categories from their Goodreads Choice Awards, meaning no more or categories. Worse, Graphic Novel & Poetry, have also been eliminated.

Here you can vote to ask them to bring those categories back:

Today is the last day of the Dutch Children's Book Week. Every year you can get a free children's book if you spend a certain amount of money on children's books during that week. A while ago I found this Children's Book Week book from 1986 at the thrift store and I figured now was a good time to read it. It's a mixed-media mystery that makes me wish the Book Week gifts wouldn't have such a strict format these days and I can definitely imagine that it could make children excited about reading.

You can find a reading vlog and short explanation of the Dutch Children's Book Week here: https://youtu.be/hUeCQS2n2qA

Book 2: “Cat Burglar Black” by .

I saw some of his art online and thought it looked like “Invisible Hands” from Liquid Television, which I LOVED. Same artist! This didn’t have quite the same level of twisted, creepiness as that animated series, but I was so happy to find his work in comic form. There’s more too.

Someone stitched together all the “”. The voice acting is 🤌🏽 https://youtu.be/n5sP4yRb8Mw

Panel 1, someone in bed, their head covered in bandages, eyes staring and teeth bared. A weak whisper: "Come closer, Katherine. Let me see you..." Panel 2 a severe looking older woman with her hands around the shoulders of a tentative, white-haired teen: "Don't be shy. Say hello to your aunt."
