I dream of the day when the vast majority of Booktokers will no longer recommend books by Brandon Sanderson. Nothing against the author, but it seems that's all these people read.
#IndieInkAwards reviews for this year are coming in! I'll cross-post them here in replies to myself as they come in. Feel free to follow the hashtag to make sure you see them all! (These will be on other social media as well.)
First up, Tiny Elf Arcanist reviews A Necromancer Called Gam Gam and calls it "a moving exploration of grief and found family wrapped in beautiful prose"
Alma Raymer reviews The Name-Bearer, saying "I loved the worldbuilding, magic system, and overall story, all of which were distinctive--perhaps even unique."
She also reviews The Fall Is All There Is, calling it "at times hilariously funny as well as deeply dark"
Alma Raymer reviews The Follower of Flowers, saying "I love the way that Latinidad feels layered into all parts of the world building of this novel--from drinking mate in certain geographies to the words used to describe monsters of the dark wood"
Alma also reviews Refurbished: The Clover Initiative, saying its themes of "political intrigue, who deserves what human rights, sci-fi elements, magical realism, and dreamwalking, this novel is chock full of themes that many kinds of readers would enjoy."
The Stikky series is a great read for summer ! These activity booklets teach life skills to children and adults, like navigating at night , or identifying animals. I love their small sizes ! They are perfect to keep in your pocket ! The texts are simple and the books are full of colored photographs and drawings.
Neat Nick’s Big Mess is an adorable picture book focusing on OCD and anxiety.
Chad Otis’ illustrations and story are charming and warm. I just fell in love with this friendly big dog. It is a wonderful story full of love and friendship that young readers, especially dog lovers, will adore !
For readers of Adriana Trigiani, Susan Meissner, and Elena Ferrante, an unbreakable, life-changing friendship will lead two young girls from different worlds to rebel against the injustice they face in 1930s Italy.
Eoin Colfer meets Rick Riordan—with a little Margaret Peterson Haddix sprinkled on top—in this hilarious new sci-fi series from award-winning authors Neal Shusterman and Eric Elfman.
Charming and poetic biography about Else Bostelmann, an artist who painted underwater wonders in the 1930s. Pioneering woman artist, she combined art and science, helping in expeditions for the NY Zoological Society’s Department of Tropical Research.
My hot take on one of my biggest #bookish pet peeves - YA should be labeled 'Teen', not 'Young Adult'. It's extremely confusing, it's the reason why YA ends up mixed in with NA smut in stores, by definition it's unclear; Young adult means late teens to early-mid 20s, and by that definition non-readers assume 'young ADULT' means someone of age. There really needs to be a clear differentiation between NA and YA.

I definitely read the entire thing in a southern accent! Something I really enjoy is seeing authors compare different types of love in their books; love that isn't really sincere or healthy vs. love that's more genuine and true, and this book does that. Though, I will say this book won't be everyone's cup of tea...

Oh.My.GODDDD I don’t know how I am going to recover from this series! I think this book was my favorite out of the entire ACOTAR series.
Nesta’s character was I think the most powerfully transformative in this series. Don’t get me wrong, so was Feyre’s, but I guess I feel like Nesta’s was more powerful because of her character.

I don't think there was anything in particular I didn't love about this book. The characters are absolutely endearing and have a way of making you smile with their cute little quirks. I also really enjoyed seeing Viv open up and forge friendships with others who were generally known to be disliked, or awkward...
When you start reading this book, you are immediately drawn in by the question of “What on earth happened between Sloan and Lucian that they hate each other so much”? The book doesn’t really tell you their history until quite later on, but it sprinkles in clues of it throughout to keep the reader really engaged and wondering what happened. I could NOT put this book down.
