So, what I'm hearing is we owe the existence of epic fantasy series to insomnia? I'm guessing I can't be the only fantasy writer that doesn't sleep well 🤔😂
And it beats existential dread, or replaying mistakes, by a smidge 😜
This year's FediBookFair will be 2nd/3rd November.
#Authors and #publishers are invited to post about their books, or related subjects like research, using the #FediBookFair hashtag. They can also run competitions, offer signed copies, etc.
#Readers can watch or follow the hashtag to find #books to read and authors to follow.
@bert_hubert 1/2 As an author, I'm not at all surprised: Even in publishing houses, this development started much earlier. It was about 2002-2004, when publishers asked agents not about content but authors' titles, connections, and fame. With Facebook's success, you had to bring a fandom to get a contract which pushed the craze for follower numbers even more. Meantime, even #selfpublishers are better multi-channel influencers.

My #WIP is starting to take shape. It follows the same group, but in different years. In the current year chapters the MC is living a mostly seemingly perfect life - good, well paying job, house in the suburbs, on good terms with his ex wife. This type of life could be so many of the guys I know in my area, I’m good with writing him this way. The fun part comes when circumstances beyond his control upset the life balance he’s crafted. #writingcommunity#authors#authorsofmastodon@bookstodon
For your enjoyment: Pride and Prejudice with Androids, an interactive read-write text adventure from the Library of Unwritten Books. In a future where automation provides for all, many live lives of leisure similar to the landed gentry. Play here: https://libraryofunwrittenbooks.org/?text=pride_and_prejudice.txt
FWIW, if you’re new to The Library of Unwritten Books, I suggest reading the Tips page before jumping in. See https://libraryofunwrittenbooks.org/tips/ Successful “game play” only happens if you embrace the role of reader-AUTHOR. ;)
““This kind of AI that can reproduce content similar to what it ingested poses an existential threat to the writing profession and to the publishing industry—if it’s unchecked,” says Mary Rasenberger, CEO of the Authors Guild. “A lot of people who aren’t in the industry don’t realize how precarious the profession is and how uneven the business is.” https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/a61485201/books-ai-lawsuits/
I'm at 65% in my WIP, a novel planned to be 70k words.
What if I just stop there, and leave it hanging for a book two? 😁😁 #amwriting#authors@bookstodon
