President Joe Biden could make a decision within days whether to remain a candidate for reelection, said Hawaii’s governor who participated in a recent meeting with Biden and other Democratic governors and whose family has known the president for years....
Definitely not Kamala fucking Harris, the most hated VP in decades.
Say what, now? All this tells me is you’re too young to remember Dick Cheney, or the other guy who failed the spelling bee. (In fairness, though, Quayle wasn’t so much hated as he was ignored, like your little brother.)
and yet EU allows these guys to operate within its territory because security services are limp dick cucks who can only run shiti propaganda like this lol
Of course, I’d do all the obvious things, such as getting a bigger house, a newer car, and quitting work, but beyond that, I have no interest in an extravagant lifestyle—or at least that’s what I tell myself....
I remember having a guy living near me who made quite a fair bit of money, but since he was Christian he donated most of it to charity and just lived a normal middle class life lol
So, I used to work in the disability services sector and the 14b argument is more complicated than most people want to admit.
I’ll use one guy I knew as an example. He loves work. He loves getting his paycheck. His idea of work? Assemble one widget in the morning and then talk to his friends for the rest of the day. He doesn’t give a shit that his paycheck is $2. This man would not be able to hold down a regular job without some paid full time to support him 1:1. So, if we eliminate all 14b facilities (and Goodwill is not alone in running these, in fact none are run by Goodwill in my area), what do we do with those individuals all day? They would end up sitting in their home all day unless we accompanied a 14b ban with a significant increase in funding for disability services. I do not believe that will happen. Politicians will ban 14b facilities and say “look, no more subminimum wages!” and leave it at that.
And I’ve had the conversation with many people. “Wouldn’t you rather have a regular job?” Very few say yes. They like the slow pace of the work and the ability to socialize. Those that do work at a high pace generally make minimum wage (the pay is set to be equal to minimum wage when they do work at a typical rate. They are paid by widget completed at a piece rate. The employer runs “time studies” with their staff to see what a reasonable amount of work is. If that’s 10 widgets per hour, you get paid 1/10th of minimum wage per widget). So, if the people with disabilities are telling me they like it, who am I to say they need to all find regular jobs?
Obviously there’s also an ethical question about the value of labor and what it means to “work”.
Edit: I hadn’t actually read that specific article. The allegation of not cleaning someone after an incontinence issue is entirely separate from the subminimum wage discussion because that’s something abuse happens to people with disabilities, unfortunately, regardless of setting. Does the worker making the video realize that her individuals have the choice to go to work each day? Also, she infantalizes them by calling adults “boys and girls,” a classic no no in disability services and a personal pet peeve. If she cares about them, she should have a conversation with them about their preferences, not post a video online for views.
Listen, I hate Putin and Olympic cheaters as much as the next guy, but not every athlete should suffer because some people higher up are nut jobs. I wonder if these guys actually made their own decision or were pressured by the wrestling president this article mentions
That’s just an appalling situation for workers in the US. I work in the public sector and get 37 days off a year in vacation time. Admittedly, I work in the public sector and have a generous vacation deal, but it’s absolutely insane that workers in the US have a worse deal than many third world nations. My 37 days are working days, meaning I get almost 8 whole weeks of vacation time, on top of all the other regular bank holidays everyone else gets. The people there often seem to cherish your second amendment, but fuck, what tyranny are you guys waiting for. How about using them weapons for something else than suicides and accidental shootings?

I recently booted up Half-Life 2 to replay it. I have played the absolute shit out of this game before, so 60% of it just feels like a drag to me now. It was such an amazing game but it’s sort of spoiled for me after I’ve played it too much....
Yeah what the other guy said, modpacks and give FTB academy a start. Generally the mods add a shitload of new content (like lots more ores). Better automation and electricity is, imo, the best stuff added, and there’s tons of that. I find the magic and adventure mods don’t quite work as well. My biggest tip for modded mc is: Spread out! Make big ass bases and rooms, you’ll love the space.
After that it’s your call what’s next. A kitchen sink pack is one that sorta rams in a ton of mods with no theme and it’s fun! FTB infinity was a lot of fun, or FTB Ultimate re whatever too.
There’s StoneBlock which is the opposite of Skyblock which was a different style
Create: Above and Beyond is my favorite. It is hard though and requires that you understand the Create mod.
By the way you’ll find that Create is the best mod. It’s really fucking well done and no other mod really comes close in quality. Gears and belts!
Oh there’s more like it, too, lol. Like the time a tank WASNT actually empty and I popped the valve off (I had done everything to bleed it off, the bleeder was stuck full of bug gunk I’d later find out). I was deaf for 5 minutes, the valve landed 1 building over, luckily didn’t hit anyone/anything.
Then there’s the time the cigarette guy climbed up the back of a fuel truck and popped the tank and looked in. He had a cig in his mouth, lit, and thought it was a diesel truck. It was a gas one. Had it been more empty (this fumes) he’d likely have blown his stupid ass up. Instead, he jumped off and twisted his ankle. I unironically hate that man with a passion for many, many reasons.
Or the time my co-worker was doing knife work and just stabbed himself in the gut. That one’s a classic: overconfidence in cutting TOWARDS one’s self.
Ooh, ooh, a good one: trimming trees with a chainsaw while on a pallet on a forklift 20ft in the air, held on by a rope tied around your WAIST. That was also the safety manager lol
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — In parts of Afghanistan where there are no street names or house numbers, utility companies and their customers have adopted a creative approach for connecting. They use mosques as drop points for bills and cash, a “pay and pray” system....
I have a small farm supply in my area that makes their own feed and stocks a huge variety of brands. Their house feed is cheaper than TSC and my girls love it.
I only found out about it because I picked up a bunch of pallets to build a coop off of a guy who also raised chickens and we got to talking.
Rural general stores may as well.
I actually just googled “farm stores near me” and found 2 others that are still closed than either of my TSCs.
This guy (Tim) did it from kittenhood, so he doesn’t mind at all. Our last cat (Dharma) took a bit of convincing, and trying different styles of harness.
What exactly is there to gain with AI anyways? What’s the great benefit to us as a species? So far its just been used to trivialize multiple artistic disciplines, basic service industries, and programming.
The whole point is that much like industrial automation it reduces the number of hours people need to work. If this leads to people starving then that’s a problem with the economic system, not with AI technology. You’re blaming the wrong field here. In fact everyone here blaming AI/ML and not the capitalists is being a Luddite.
It’s also entirely possible it will start replacing managers and capitalists as well. It’s been theorized by some anti-capitalists and economic reformists that ML/AI and computer algorithms could one day replace current economic systems and institutions.
Things have a cost, many people are doing the cost-benefit analysis and seeing there is none for them. Seems most of the incentive to develop this software is if you would like to stop paying people who do the jobs listed above.
This sadly is probably true of large companies producing big, inefficient ML models as they can afford the server capacity to do so. It’s not true of people tweaking smaller ML models at home, or professors in universities using them for data analysis or to aid their teaching. Much like some programmers are getting fired because of ML, others are using it to increase their productivity or to help them learn more about programming. I’ve seen scientists who otherwise would struggle with data analysis related programming use ChatGPT to help them write code to analyse data.
What do we get out of burning the planet to the ground? And even if you find an AI thats barely burning it, what’s the point in the first place?
As the other guy said there are lots of other things using way more energy and fossil fuels than ML. Machine learning is used in sciences to analyse things like the impacts of climate change. It’s useful enough in data science alone to outweigh the negative impacts. You would know about this if you ever took a modern data science module. Furthermore being that data centres primarily use electricity it’s relatively easy to move them to green sources of energy compared to say farming, or transport. In fact some data centres already use green energy primarily. Data centres will always exist regardless of AI and ML anyway, it’s just a matter of scale.

I’d like to pretend I were amused by a pampered white guy doing pampered white guy things and posting “everyone you criticize is hitler!1!!” memes, but it’s hard to do so when I realize I’m talking to someone who actually thinks sexism against women and racism against minorities isn’t a real issue, much less homophobia and transphobia, and thinks that straight white dudes are the “real victims” of discrimination.
You are the problem. You’re a tool. You’re outsmarted by the far-right. They played you for a fool. Get professional psychiatric help before you can’t reverse course.
