I discovered him as a teenager in the late 2000s, and was surprised to rediscover him recently that he’s still reviewing Star Trek, and other sci-fi shows like The Orville, etc. Love his reviews even if I don’t always agree.
Also apparently he was invited to pitch stories to the Voyager writing crew, but they all sucked so they were not bought.

I finally formatted one of my 1 TB SSDs as EXT4 to make room for #Steam games on my #ArchLinux install.
Then, I installed Transport Fever 2 and played it through my #SteamLink
And you know what? It just worked. It was a miracle! I just happily played for an hour without even noticing I'm not running #Windows. Zero tinkering. Thanks #Valve. ☺
My experience with Ubuntu was that it took me about as long to get it installed and set up the way I wanted as it would for a Windows installation. To get it up and running barebones is about the same as well, but Windows has so much bloatware and advertising that I refuse to allow on my computer. It also forcibly reinstalls software at every update that I removed previously because I just don’t need/want it there.
I can respect the lack of motivation to commit to learning to use a new OS though. It does take some adjustment, and sometimes there’s no alternative to specific software that you may need. For the most part though, it’s a pretty seamless transition nowadays.
@sabret00the Yup. #ActivityPub is not enough for video distribution. PeerTube is interesting indeed but the storage/bandwidth issue represents a challenge in terms of business model. You need to have a HUGE infrastructure to deal with volumes of video distribution. And that's costly. Not sure it's a business model that can work only through donation/subscription.
@TNLNYC We might be at a tumblr one soon. They want to "update the core experience" to make things "easier for new users" and are talking algorithm rather than linking posts or rolling out the ActivityPub integration they've been silent on.

I am searching for something to sync my phone contacts between multiple phones for some time. Best case it shouldn't use DAVx^5 and should support Android and iOS. Thanks for your suggestions!

Nextcloud - but needs DAVx^5
Radicale - also needs DAVx^5
SoGo - needs some CARD-DAV application
Because Davx5 only works with Android and he stated he wants something that syncs across all of his devices. I came across this posting because I am also looking for a solution to sync contacts between my Android and iPhone. I am trying to get away from Nextcloud because it’s overkill for my use case… So far I have tried Radicale and Baikal but neither works for iOS.
Well, had my content curated on Reddit and despised the recommendation stuff on the official app (that I never used lul). But now that I'm on a new platform, I want to have recommendations lol. The Random stuff on the sidebar's pretty neat, could've sworn Reddit has similar like 10 years ago.

Along with lemmy.world, it looks like "centralisation" is relatively natural.
Centralization reduces friction. Normies who sign up on Mastodon are going to want to be able to talk to all of the other Twitter refugees too. By making mastodon.social the default, it encourages centralization of the mainstream portion of Mastodon’s userbase, such as journalists, official company accounts, public figures, etc.
But most of them are probably going to use BlueSky. I heard journalists have been mostly gravitating towards that option.
While I certainly like having the choice of so many servers, and I think it’s smart to spread the load, I also understand why people would want to make sure they are in a stable server that has a reasonable chance to stay around. You have to put a certain amount of faith in the instance owner.
Halo: Master Chief Collection is an absolute broken mess
Last weekend, I picked up the #Halo Master Chief Collection from the Steam sale with a friend. We wanted to play through Halo 1 again, but it was completely unplayable.
You can't always join another player's session.
Occasionally, nothing happens when starting a mission.
On certain missions the game just completely freezes.
At certain points the game locks up leaving you unable to move.
I've had a generally pleasant experience with the game. All the issues I came across--friends not being able to join matches, lag while on multiplayer--was because of cross-platform issues, one of us was on the MCC version while another was in the original release version, or my own poor internet connection.
@kiwiguy And remember Kbin in particular doesn't even have a mobile app yet. There's the website and a PWA pseudo-app, but once it can be used properly from phones I expect an even bigger jump in usage.
