When the hunter becomes the prey. My new novel ‘The High Road’ is a fast-paced contemporary thriller set mainly in central Scotland and the far north-west.

Sandwood Bay in north-west Sutherland has an important part to play in the story as it develops, and the book reaches its climax nearby.

Hello! 👋
I'm Mar.

I'm in flow when I can focus on the endless beautiful forms and patterns of nature. I love seeing how things connect. I used to observe nature as a job (as a scientist), but I could not survive in academia.

I'm also a mom.

A year or so ago, I found out about neurodivergence. Reading and listening to the accounts of autistic people sharing their experience filled me with an overwhelming feeling of peace and kinship. This lead to a path of self-discovery. I'm also learning about ADHD as my partner and my kid are AuDHD.

I'm also an immigrant.

Prominent "free-speech absolutist" threatens to sue Jewish anti-hate group because it engaged in free speech he didn't like.

"Elon Musk has threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League after accusing the civil rights group that campaigns against antisemitism and bigotry of trying to “kill” his X social media platform.

"The owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, said the ADL was trying to shut down his company by 'falsely accusing it and me of being antisemitic'."

If your list of enemies includes the ADL, then there's a more-than-reasonable chance that you're an anti-semite.

Apparently it's been out since June and I just never realized, but there's a new pfsense out.

https://www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-2.7.0-and-23.05

Not exactly timely, but I bet I'm not the only one who easily forgets about that particular thing. Most of my stuff is set to autoupdate so I tend to forget.

The upgrade downloaded a large number of packages, I think about 160, during which network connectivity continued to function. After downloading, my router PC reset, and that first boot after the upgrade took quite a few minutes. I ended up running the 90 second timer out after which it reset to 20 seconds a number of times. I was just about to start digging for an HDMI cable to see what when I heard the router beep and my internet came back. Perfect upgrade, didn't need to fix anything afterwards.

theRealBassist ,

I get the gist of what Opnsense is from the name, but what are some of the practical benefits for a small home labber to use it over PFsense?

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

The UI is way, way better. I also haven’t had opnsense corrupt itself, but PFsense did that to me twice in the five or so years I used it.

Other than that there aren’t a lot of functional differences. There was some drama years ago with the guy who runs PFsense and I guess he’s kind of a giant asshole, that’s what led to the fork, but I don’t remember the details.

A few days after arriving, we took a trip to Khan Market. Khan Market in Central Delhi is a tiny area of boutique shops, restaurants, and bars. It is one of a handful of places that you'll see a lot of expats in Delhi. It is considered India's most expensive retail market (in terms of real estate cost). We sometimes feel a little silly but we have many, many fond memories of Khan and we had to go. A few highlights from the visit:

We had a strong Irani chai, a Bombay Sandwich (in @seanbala's opinion, one of the greatest culinary gifts to mankind) and a raspberry soda.

An Irani Chai is like a normal Indian chai but made much stronger.

The Bombay Sandwich is a thick grilled vegetable sandwich with very thinly sliced beets, potatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes, all sprinkled with a big helping of cheese. Difficult to make, impossible not to eat!

Ruchika also having an Irani chai. You can see more of the unique decoration of the restaurant.
A very cool looking raspberry soda with a sprig of mint and a paper straw with a purple stripe.
A very beautiful Bombay sandwich on a metal plate topped with fries.

I know what ableism is & educate true ableism. I also know the damage to the community that the 'ableist police Karens' do

Here I sit in a motorized wheelchair, hooked up to a feeding tube pump, with a pump in my abdomen & cath in my spinal column that delivers medication to my brain and an anti-ableist 'police' Karen came at me in a DM over a gun violence boost

When I wouldn't engage, it abused two of my HashtagGames tags with a lecture & a 'take a look at yourself' with a misquote

Feck Off.

Just to be clear, I don't send my followers after anyone. Many of my followers are people that live with invisible disabilities and mental health challenges and they're tired of the inequality within the disabled community as well. They categorize it as Ableism just as I do. It's their prerogative to challenge what they see as Ableism and I have no control over that. People with MI challenges are not criminals or abusers. Criminals or abusers come from all walks of life, backgrounds and health circumstances.

The claim that I attacked both hashtags saying "take a look inside" was not directed at this individual but, the original poster and everyone else who feels it's okay to make derogatory comments about people with invisible disabilities and mental health challenges. Someone has definitely misinterpreted but, it wasn't me. The post reference about "take a look inside", is linked to the post above.

Regarding health issues: I'm not very far behind the description of the health issues noted in this post. I have two brain injuries, a spine injury, multiple orthopedic disabilities, autism, fibromyalgia, and a host of other disabilities. Apparently secret posts of misinformation has resulted in "cancel culture". As long as these things continue, right wing fascists will continue to be victorious.

robotistry ,
@robotistry@sciencemastodon.com avatar

@OutOfExile_IDR_Voice @paul @disability @disabilityjustice @MadMovementMastodon I read it as an adjective rather than a noun: referring to a person who is simultaneously a criminal and mentally ill and a drug addict and a wife abuser. It reads to me like it's meant to be a list of risk factors for violence.

Who has what disabilities is irrelevant.

The ableist part is using mental illness as shorthand for predisposed to violence.

I am no branding expert, but calling your opponents an "illegal shadow library" makes you sound like a villain, and elevates your opponents to protagonists, in an anime series like Read or Die.

For sure. Textbooks being that expensive is a paywall for knowledge and only means the rich have access to it without having to sacrifice quality of life.

Didn't even know until I read the comments that textbooks even come with one-time-passwords now for online only homework.

What the fuck⁉️
