New here and have a question about communities (lemmy.world)
Forgive me if this is truly a stupid question but I cannot find the answer and I have been afraid to ask....

Forgive me if this is truly a stupid question but I cannot find the answer and I have been afraid to ask....
I still have my reddit account to look up local news. Over my time on reddit I joined several chat groups and over the past week I’ve noticed that people are being mass added to these groups. Even ones that have been dead for years suddenly have people posting and commenting on them. It’s very obvious that this is been done...
There’s a lot of instances using a language I don’t understand. I’ve been using Jerboa, and the only option I’ve seen is to block communities individually every time I come across one, but the popular ones have multiple communities (are they even called communities? My past reddit brain keeps calling them subreddits). So...
Usually when someone is venting at me, I feel like I should respond somehow and say something, but I have no idea what that something could/should be. Is it better to just listen or try to comfort them in some way?
Is it possible to automatically subscribe to all (federated) communities with the same name?...
So from my understanding, I can block an instance which prevents it from showing in my feed....
I run a pretty locked down Firefox browser and I noticed when browsing lemmy.world that the browser wants to pull stuff from a long list of other instances, which fails because they aren’t trusted. Is this normal? I thought an instance would collect the things you are subscribed to and store them locally so that you didn’t...
I do, but as more people join I’m also feeling a little republican - i got my spot and this is good; everyone on the outside can go fuck off now. I don’t want it to get so big that it’s what we left. No intended disrespect or lack of acknowledgment to those who were here before.
In the profile settings (direct from website browser, not app or app affiliate) it states “show bot account” and then right above it it says “bot accounts” with check marks for each much how we select if we want to see nsfw posts....

I have seen several of my image posts (and several other posters pictures) become turned sideways after posting even though the image is right side up before posting. How do I ensure my image won’t get rotated once posted?
Just curious. I’m hearing that a lot of people are using various apps with Lemmy but I’m having such a good experience with the browser version that I don’t understand the point of adding an additional layer via an app in between my access to the service. I’d love to hear people’s opinions about the pros and/or cons to...
I’ve created and account in programming.dev. When I search for a community, sometimes I don’t find in when I search in programming.dev but I find it in lemmy.world
Probably more stupid than most questions here, but Lemmy seems to have a learning curve. I’m using Connect to access the fediverse....
I think the idea of assigning a language to a post is great. However, I always use the english language. I’d like to know if there’s a way to automatically tag all my posts as english, instead of manually selecting it....
I’m in Lemmy.world, but I’ve seen there are others. Do I have to switch in between them (if so, how?) or is it fine the way I have it?...
Isn’t this a very common phrase? Surely, someone already thought about this?
I’ve seen a lot of comments suggesting Threads should be pre-emptively defederated by Lemmy/kbin instances if it tries to join us. I’m a bit confused what the problem would be. When Meta does its usual corporate bullshit over at Threads, how would that hurt a user or community based on Lemmy.world? If anything, wouldn’t it...
I wanted to major in physics when I went to college in 2013 (I’m 28 now), but had to drop out and have flushed out a lot of information. A lot of basic concepts are still there, but I’d need a lot of refreshers going back to like algebra lol. I’d love to get back in to studying in my free time, but I’ve completely...
Both are federated right? Getting a bit confused - are they interchangeable? Can I view lemmy posts/communities in Mastodon? Similar to how I can view lemmy.ml content with a lemmy.world account?
So, I know I can search for communities. Is there a community to ask for community suggestions?...
For instance, I made an account here in Lemmy.world because it seemed like a nice, well rounded place to start. However, I want stuff from TTRPG.network to show up when I browse my “frontpage,” but all I see is my Lemmy.World communities....
I know that users from different instances can have @instance after the user name, but what does it mean when the username is @username ?
I’ve seen lists of songs with deep lyrics, songs that are upbeat but depressing at the same time, songs not on the radio, and other things like that… But I have never seen a list of songs that are just super fun to sing....
