My only liberal dream is a world without conservatives. The world may not be anywhere close to perfect, but it’s made significantly worse by conservatives.
The stupidest part is that both Republicans (in Utah at least) and Democrats have seen, first hand, that Housing First initiatives are actually less expensive for the government than just ignoring, then displacing inconvenient homeless populations.
Research in Seattle, Washington, found that providing housing and support services for homeless alcoholics costs taxpayers less than leaving them on the street, where taxpayer money goes towards police and emergency health care.
Both morality and fiscal responsibility agree on certain issues, and this is one of them.
I’m not saying that housing first is the ultimate best remedy, because I don’t know all of the alternatives. Just that clearing homeless camps is proven to be expensive and ineffective.
According to the article, the crabs will help the coral by eating algae. Unfortunately, algae is great for (and sorely needed for) removing carbon dioxide from the air.
Also you’re talking about microalgae, the stuff that makes water look green. The stuff the crabs would be eating is growing on the coral or is shading it like kelp.
Hopefully you are right! I just found it humorous that on one side of the world they’re growing algae to save the planet, and on the other side they are getting rid of algae to save the planet. 🤷♂️
Honest question, what structures or authorities exist outside of the city level to investigate something like this? Is it all down to what the mayor decides, or can the Kansas governor or state patrol launch an investigation? What about federal agencies like the FBI?
I could be misremembering, but from the original story it sounded like the mayor was likely tied up in the motivation for the original raid. Not surprising for a small town, really. Once you get down to a few hundred people, there’s only so many businesses and families to go around.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is supposedly investigating the situation, but there have been conflicting reports of what they consider to be within the scope of their investigation.
