LemmyKnowsBest , (edited ) in Surge in Wendy's complaints exposes limits to consumer tolerance of unstable prices

If Wendy’s hadn’t announced/advertised their new variable pricing strategy, fewer people would’ve noticed, And there wouldn’t be this backlash.

People don’t really notice fast food prices until theyve already paid and sometimes they still don’t even notice until much later In retrospect.

scaredoftrumpwinning , in Surge in Wendy's complaints exposes limits to consumer tolerance of unstable prices

Wendy’s was the first to try market price for fast food. I’ve heard of market price for lobster but never for crappy food.

Man, that last episode of Curb when he and Larry were talking about their wills on the golf course, I got a funny feeling that it might be foreshadowing of Lewis’s pending demise, but I thought it would be a fictional death of his character from the show. RIP

Crikeste , in Trump gave top US firms staggering tax cuts, with some paying $0 or less – report

But has the current president done anything worthwhile to correct this situation?

Why should I vote for the current president if he’s just going to continue Trump’s policies?

homesweethomeMrL ,

Hey Sean, don’t you have an AM radio show to do?

Crikeste ,

Y’all downvote and make jokes, but you haven’t provided me with any counter to my point.

What are you gonna say? “Trump bad”?

If Trump is bad and his policies are bad, why isn’t Biden crushing them? Why is it that Janet Yellen, just last month, stated Biden’s intent to continue Trump’s policy?

Y’all are twisted.

Mog_fanatic ,

The answer is they both suck monster balls. One just sucks less than the other at the moment. Just cause “trump bad” doesn’t automatically mean “Biden awesome”

jupiter_jazz ,

Yeah nobody likes Biden enough to make an identity out of worshiping him, I’m not sure why they don’t get that.

Crikeste ,

Cool democracy you have there. Hope you’re proud of it, because you are supporting it.

“The new year brings higher federal tax burdens for U.S. businesses. The heftier federal tax bills employers face in 2023 are primarily derived from implementation of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the phasing out of temporary provisions in the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act (TCJA). While the federal government is imposing a larger burden on businesses, state-level tax cuts that recently kicked in are providing countervailing relief in many parts of the country. In fact, 2023 began with business tax reduction of some form taking effect in many states.”

" -Imposing a selective 15% corporate minimum tax rate for companies with higher than $1 billion of annual financial statement income – $222 billion

-Increased tax enforcement – $181 billion[7][38] Imposing a 1% excise tax on stock buybacks – $74 billion " en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation_Reduction_Act

This clearly is not a full solution but a start. Getting bills to pass is tough when the Congress is majority against you

assassin_aragorn ,

The IRA has made it impossible for large profitable companies to pay $0 in taxes. They’re now subject to a 15% minimum tax even if their tax burden could be $0 by using loopholes.

Currently it just applies to large corporations making a ton of money, but it would be easy enough to widen the net.

So remember, Trump made some billionaire CEOs and companies pay $0 in taxes. Biden made them pay 15%. There’s your reason to vote for him.

sugarfree , in Israel-Hamas war has now killed at least 30,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians
@sugarfree@lemmy.world avatar

Hamas clearly needs to unconditionally surrender, they need to do the right thing for their people.

Steve ,

I kinda doubt Israel would accept their surrender

sugarfree ,
@sugarfree@lemmy.world avatar

Why? Israel doesn’t want war, they just want to live in peace. If Hamas is willing to surrender, I am certain Israel would accept it.

mlg ,
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Actually they want the Palestinians gone and land control, so if Hamas surrenders, it wouldn’t bring back Gaza or even change the situation much at this point.

They spent this entire time taking land in the west bank despite it having nothing to do with Gaza nor even geographically connected. So that right there sums up their goals.

Israel is the dominating military force, if they wanted to, they could have easily dismantled Hamas years ago, especially considering they are the ones who supported its creation.

Everythingispenguins ,

There is no “their people” there hasn’t been any kind of election since 2006 where Hamas won minority control of Gaza. A year later they cemented control by arresting, killing or expelling opposition politicians. Hamas has always been a militant group not a political party.

The leadership of Hamas doesn’t live in Gaza and doesn’t care about civilians. As for the Israeli government, Netanyahu seems to prefer hardliners in control as this lets him have an excuse to take a much more hard line approach to use of force in Gaza.

There is no one looking out for or caring about the Palestinian people.
