At least it escaped from an ecological park where it will likely live out a normal ostrich lifespan. Based on the fact that the PetsMart in my under-100,000 population town has a large number of ostrich tracheae in stock, they must be heavily farmed.
Sorry to confuse, I knew what you meant. I was saying it will probably have a less terrifying life than a lot of other ostriches. Which is good considering what it just went through.
I assume the ostriches providing PetsMart dog treats are factory farmed. They probably live their whole lives under incredible stress.

USDA reports that affected dairy cows do not appear to be transmitting the virus to other cattle within the same herd. APHIS says based on findings from Texas, “the detections appear to have been introduced by wild birds. Initial testing by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories has not found changes to the virus that would make it more transmissible to humans, which would indicate that the current risk to the public remains low.”
Yes, it has infected plenty of mammals. It has caused mass die offs in aquatic mamals in South America and has spread through a mink farm in Europe. But no, it does not appear to have adapted to transmit more easily between humans yet.
I heard a marine biologist just last week saying marine mammals were being infected by sick birds that they had eaten. At most I see talk of suspicion of transmission between mammals like in that Spanish mink farm. So I still think people are getting carried away ITT until I see some science to the contrary.
It has, over the past few years, adapted to spread from birds to mammals more effectively, but so far does not seem to be transmitted from one mammal to another more easily. The fear with finding large numbers of herbivores (who don’t eat dead birds) positive is, I suppose, that this could signify further genetic changes. Not saying this is definately the case, but it is still an important development and it’s good that people are taking this seriously. Furthermore, humans have a lot more contact with farm animals than wild predators, so zoonosis is probably more likely to occur from one of these animals than like… a sea lion.
Just to be clear, I’m not saying we should panic - the fact the animals are not too sick is good to hear - we just don’t want to be caught with our trousers down (again).

A lady down the street had her mom get taken for $500K of gold bars. She loaded it into their car. Thought she was part of a scheme that the FBI was investigating and she was to not tell her family else it would rope her family into the group of suspects. None of it makes sense but to her it was completely believable.
They had her take her retirement money, pull it out and convert it to gold because they told her it was safest that way. They said by being physical the thieves couldn’t take it. The irony.
Come to think of it another old lady friend got taken for 20K but it wasn’t the gold thing. I think it was just good ole graft. Sad story. Her kids took over her estate after consulting with her and are now forcing her to move into an old folks home. They are selling her home she’s had for 50 years. A friend offered to buy it direct and they said nope… talk to the real estate agent. A holes.

Great, with that timing, should Letitia James go after his properties in Seotember, that will only help him drive supporters to the ballot box with the election so soon after.
The major supporters sure, but that timing could help push people that are still on the fence towards Trump.
Republicans as a whole are better at going to vote than Democrats are, especially so in red states. We don’t need more events scheduled to further rally and anger the right a few weeks before the election. There was already too much violence after the 2020 election.
