In a now deleted Facebook post, the salon wrote that those who don’t identify as “man/woman” “are not welcome at this salon.”
The law linked to in the article is pretty explicit about there being two sexes, albeit in a section regarding private clubs:
This section does not prohibit a private club from sponsoring or permitting sports schools or leagues for children less than 18 years of age that are limited by age or to members of 1 sex, if comparable and equally convenient access to the club’s facilities is made available to both sexes and if these activities are not used as a subterfuge to evade the purposes of this article.
The way a court would rule depends on decades of precedent which I’m totally unfamiliar with, but the law as written does not seem to prohibit this sort of behavior.
Back when gay marriage was the controversial national issue, one of my arguments in favor of legalizing it was that gay people just wanted to be left alone. Letting them get married wouldn’t be a burden of any sort on anyone else, so even someone who personally opposed gay marriage would not be harmed in any way if it were legalized. In that context, I am disappointed to see civil-rights activists push as far as they’re pushing here. I think future progress will be more difficult if opponents know that they must resist or be crushed, and as a matter of principle, it seems wrong to ask someone who hates you to tolerate you if you don’t intend to tolerate him once you have the power.
By the 1930s, the new Nazi government needed that technology — and recruited IBM for the job. Tabulating machines made tracking lines of Jewish descent possible, even if a German citizen’s family had married out of the religion or converted generations ago.
I dont agree with hate even 1% but some of the companies are the pot calling thee kettle black
Regardless if you like Elon Musk or not, we should be careful not to become a vehicle (no pun intended) for some elites’ political, ideological or religious agendas.
I’m not saying he’s a nobody, but it’s not exactly downvote worthy to not know him lol, I’ll bet there are plenty of people I’d consider well know that you’re not familiar with too 🤷🏼♂️
The crux of the issue is that he has supporters. You can claim don’t give him money as a soln for those who don’t like him but there’s still plenty of morons who still worship at his alter.
People will always think celebs are only ever attacked bc of their status so long as they fit into their own in group.
Part of me wonders if it has anything to do with, and how much, bandwagon feminism and not true feminism. Ik that might sound incel-energy but I really don’t think it is. I’m not convinced that mental health or any of the other underlying systemic issues that men face were ever properly solved or supported. If you go with a political stance of fuck the wrong people into the dirt with no remorse because they’re assholes, you kinda just give them more ammo to breed more assholes because you’re the asshole to them.
I think if we all looked at ourselves first, then looked at how others feel, then look at how we behave when knowing both sides, we’re setting up a stronger and stronger form of empathy the more aware we are.
I really don’t think most people would be such pricks had they not grown up in that sort of environment and had proper support for trying to correct inefficient behaviors, communications and so on. Not yo mention other pressures people might face for a wide variety of things like sex preferences, race, class, living situation, home life, addiction, etc. We barely can behave with people of our own caliber and then you wanna throw minorities in the mix? No shot.
Yeah, remember exactly 1 year ago with the huge frenzy around twitter going to shut down because of Musk’s take over, the shutting down of some server capacity and the firing of more than half of the workforce. 365 days later Twitter didn’t collapse, it retained most of its user base and it is still going just fine. those companies will be back when the dust settles just like how mastodon refugees went back after changing their twitter handles to mastodon ones.
They’re against getting forced to do something in particular, while still voluntarily doing something else with a similar goal. Doesn’t even seem hypocritical really, they’re just not as environmentally friendly as you may have assumed.
Except they drop those ‘similar’ goals too. Amazon has essentially dropped its climate pledge and Shell has done the same. The one way they claim they are attaining those goals that they set are through carbon offsets which they do not really audit. Their goals are also fast enough off that their lack of progress on them can just be waived away since they still have years before there will be no way for them to meet the goals.
It’s very clear that their goals are really to keep the status quo as much as possible and fought any real change. Voluntary action does not work for things like this because they will still go for the cheapest option that keeps the highest profits. The dirtier option is currently the one that raises profits and these companies continually fight any legislation that actually taxes those negative externalities. So it’s not so much as ‘not as environmentally friendly as you think’ so much as they are only as environmentally friendly as required.
