Good thing we didnt follow The Great Barrington Declaration then… gbdeclaration.org

Lemminary ,

Eh, I’m fine with my voluntary isolation. I have no trouble making friends at all. In fact, every weekend when I go out and I meet someone new, and it’s either a decent time or a miserable experience like this past weekend. I’ve yet to be able to say that it was a great pleasure meeting anyone in the past 4 years save for one person and even he does some shady shit that I have to put up with. Why does it have to be like this? It’s insane.

Very noble on their side, but I would bet no government is going to do actual shit about this

Franzia ,

The government noticing social murder for the first time, huh?

Hyper competitive global market Capitalism, that infects every aspect of our lives, teaches us to compete against each other as enemies. The zero sum mindsets of “you have to lose so I can feel like I’ve won” and “You’re poverty makes me feel wealthier by comparison” and “look at those selfish homeless people lowering my property values by greedily continuing to exist while destitude.”

As end stage capitalism continues to progress and the top level capitalists fight to consume one another’s empires of dirt in their desperation for new growth/metastasis on a finite, overpopulated, already raped and pillaged world, what did you expect? That after a lifetime of being taught to be greedy, selfish, and sociopathic, oh sorry, rationally self-interested, we’d make lots of friends and have lots of next gen capital battery babies along the way?

Fuck off. This is what live together or die alone looks like. Anything less would make us filthy commie socialists or something after all, amirite?

uwu did WHO senpai just notice me?

Marrenia ,

I’m sure just building more suburbs and blocking all walkable city efforts will help this problem!/s

FireRetardant ,

Most people aren’t even ready to admit that this style of development is even a factor in loneliness, mental health, and general strength of a community.

TheFonz ,

Still lots of boomers in senior planning positions. It doesn’t help that the only people that attend public meetings are also seniors and boomers so nimbyism is rampant.

Marrenia ,

It doesn’t help that they specifically hold those meetings during most people’s normal work hours making it impossible for anyone but retired people, disabled people, or people who work say 3rd shift to show up

TheFonz ,

Yeah that’s true unfortunately.

FireRetardant ,

To be truly fair, there should be several meetings that cover the same topics throughout the week/month so that more people have an oppourtunity to be heard

When did “cigarettes smoked per day” become the standard unit of measurement for negative impacts on health?

SheeEttin ,

And they say it’s Americans that will use anything but the metric system.

RandomStickman ,
@RandomStickman@kbin.social avatar

1 pack a day is about 2.7 milideath/1000s for us metric folks

CTDummy ,

milli/1000s

Son, go get dad’s 223. The imperialists are on the lawn again.

Drusas ,

They're just trying to make it relatable to people. (Un?)fortunately, cigarettes per day hasn't been relatable to people since the '90s.

XbSuper ,

When they made them public enemy number 1.
