mihies , in Last survivor of USS Arizona from Pearl Harbor attack dies at 102

So, nobody survived afterall.

fubarx , in Trump sues Truth Social co-founders, says they're not entitled to stock shares
Son_of_dad , in Jon Stewart takes aim at his former Apple bosses on ‘The Daily Show’

Honestly what was he expecting? I think it was shitty and morally shady of him to even take Apple’s money, and he got what he should have expected.

inclementimmigrant ,

Like working for Paramount is really any god damn different?

Son_of_dad ,

You can use that excuse sure. But apple having and wanting to keep good relations with China is expected, and taking their money and complaining about their shadyness, would be like taking money from Starbucks and then being surprised that they don’t like your anti union stories.

Lon3star , in Buyers Are Avoiding Teslas Because Elon Musk Has Become So Toxic

Yep, and the quality of quite suspect

FunkPhenomenon , in J.K. Rowling will not be arrested for comments about transgender women, police say

called it yesterday :P

Rentlar , in Major Russian refinery hit by Ukrainian drone 1,300 km from the front lines

Heck yeah! Keep it up Ukraine. Destroying oil facilities is in style, even if in the name of war rather than the environment.

Russia wouldn’t hesitate to take out Ukranian infrastructure used mostly by civilians anyway.

njm1314 , (edited ) in Jon Stewart takes aim at his former Apple bosses on ‘The Daily Show’

Man I wish he’d somehow start that podcast back up. It was so good. I really watch the show but the podcast I listen to every time it came out.

Edit: hold up, there might be hope. After making this post on a whim I checked on the podcast and there was a one minute trailer from February saying stick around he wants to do something with the podcast feed again. How about that? I mean almost 2 months ago so not quick but maybe hope.

Wooki , in Buyers Are Avoiding Teslas Because Elon Musk Has Become So Toxic

Or hear me out.

Its a car company with poor track record and little IP.

The big car companies produce better more reliable vehicles with even the little things like physical controls being preferred.

PriorityMotif ,
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

Big car companies have a pretty bad track record as well. Ignoring the obviously bad brands, Toyota had that accelerator issue with the early Prius, Honda has had it’s share of class action suits as well, mainly surrounding engine issues. Nissan, Hyundai/Kia, Fiat/Chrysler, and Mitsubishi are sitting in the back of the class eating glue. GM/Ford are coasting on pickup truck sales and mostly getting beaten out by Mercedes in the fleet vehicle department. Alpha Romeo is trying to sell cars in the US market for some reason, I’m not sure what kind of drugs they’re on. German cars are still being sold to people with more money than sense. Volvo is probably not even close to the same company they once were. Then there’s the VC money milking scam EV companies that pop up every once in awhile. I think the only one that has a chance is Rivian, but I think their sales are down quite a bit after other electric trucks like the Ford lightning have come out.

Edit: I forgot about Mazda and Subaru, also with their share of issues.

kameecoding , in Buyers Are Avoiding Teslas Because Elon Musk Has Become So Toxic

even if you like Elon, which you shouldn’t, they are very poorly made cars, with straight up dangerous UX design on the inside, once safety ratings incorporate infotainement Teslas will plummet in ratings and deservedly so.

ZILtoid1991 ,

Also most Musk fans (including Musk himself) are climate change denialists, so they usually don’t care about the environment. Their dream car would be a coal-rolling truck, that also run on human sacrifices, tears of the orphans, dead kittens, and seal puppies clubbed to death.

Cosmicomical , in Donald Trump has posted a $175 million bond to avert asset seizure as he appeals NY fraud penalty

This is bullshit. Seize his stuff!

root_beer , (edited ) in Buyers Are Avoiding Teslas Because Elon Musk Has Become So Toxic

I didn’t care one way or the other about the Boer except that he was talking about developing a sub-3 model, which piqued my interest. Then in 2018 he pulled the main character syndrome bullshit with his cobbled-together rescue sub and the “pedo guy” crap, and decided that maybe I’m not that interested, especially as at that time, he was also making a bunch of promises that he clearly had no intention of keeping (aforementioned entry level model, FSD, and so on). Now that I am in a position that I can buy one of his cars, it’s not even on my list, for so many reasons.

His “heel turn” on Twitter was telegraphed a light year away, and while I’m disappointed it’s taken this long, I’m glad he’s finally going to start reaping his blight.

I just hope that Rivian can stay afloat and that their CEO Steve-O is a relatively okay person because that R3 is looking good.

corsicanguppy , (edited ) in Not Again: United Airlines Boeing 777 Makes Emergency Landing In Denver

The Boeing 777-200 involved in the incident remains out of service, causing multiple cancellations and affecting corresponding flights

Did they fire evwryone who knows anything about capacity planning and trivial Business Continuity? Ready the standby gear at the major hub and get it to start taking the load. United seems like a stuck door handle is an insurmountable upset.

TheRealKuni ,

Yeah, so many of these incidents lately have been United incidents. The Boeing part is perhaps related, perhaps coincidental. But United is struggling hard with proper maintenance, it seems.

RunawayFixer , in Traffic Blockade Protests Were a Nuisance. Lawmakers Want to Make Them a Felony.

I was absolutely baffled by the downvote brigade in this thread, who see no qualms with blocking traffic as a form of protest, so I tried to find some numbers as to what non Lemmy users think of this kind of protest, and not surprisingly, it turns out that people are overwhelmingly against it.

The best statistics article I could find in my short search: …yougov.com/…/47565-american-opinion-portest-tact…

So for the USA at least, 80% of polled People considered blocking traffic usually/always unacceptable, while only 11% were usually/always ok with it.

Lemmy users on average really do hold some fringe opinions, which makes me wonder about the demographics of the users on here :)

jeffw OP ,
@jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

I’d bet if you reframed the question as being about people’s personal interests, more would support it. Whether that’s abortion for fundamentalists or climate for liberals and lefties

RunawayFixer ,

I’m in favor of much more and much more drastic climate action, I’m still against blocking traffic. It not only harms other people, it also causes antipathy to whatever cause is being championed. It’s really lose lose.

RBWells , in Multigenerational housing is coming back in a big way. Americans used to live in multigenerational homes. We’re starting to, again

I’m honestly ok with my kids or step kids or MIL or FIL moving in, saves money and is better in a lot of ways to have someone home all the time. But I absolutely couldn’t have lived with my mom. And I suspect at least some of my kids wouldn’t enjoy living with me. They all say they’d consider a family compound a perfect living situation though, like if we had a quad-plex or something like that.
