Garbanzo , in NYPD shot four people - including two bystanders one who is in critical condition - and another cop over a $2.90 fare.

Are the NYPD still carrying guns with a 12 pound trigger pull? Why can’t they aim for shit?

FlyingSquid , in Three US states call on environmental agency to regulate PFAS air emissions

SCOTUS: “Ha ha, no more Chevron. Fuck you.”

ravhall ,

SCOTUS: “Sorry, I can’t hear you. I get bad reception on this Chevron Yacht”

Reverendender , in Three US states call on environmental agency to regulate PFAS air emissions

Too bad the SJC ruled that the EPA doesn’t have the power to regulate pollution. Let us know how that works out for you, NC!

henfredemars ,

Man at what point can we all get together and just agree the court is insane and ignore its dumb decisions?

catloaf ,

1832, though “John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it” is apocryphal.

Also that was Andrew Jackson being a racist so maybe not the best role model.

I’m not aware of SCOTUS directing federal marshals to enforce their decisions. That may not ever have been tried.

Grimy , in NYPD shot four people - including two bystanders one who is in critical condition - and another cop over a $2.90 fare.

Schrodingers pig.

The cop shot an innocent bystander in the head but also shot another cop. Until trial, he is both a bad guy with a gun and a good guy with a gun.

FlyingSquid , in California firefighters' union: Trump should 'be ashamed' over threat to withhold firefighting aid
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t even know how to process that. “If the governor doesn’t play ball, a bunch of people nowhere near Sacramento should die in a fire?”

ThePantser ,
@ThePantser@lemmy.world avatar

It’s bribery and extortion, which is as far as I am aware still very much illegal for everyone.

ryathal ,

It’s also standard operating procedure for Congress/government. Highway funds were tied to making the drinking age 21. Obamacare tied medicaid funds to expanding it’s coverage. Medicare routinely decreases reimbursement and adds programs that are required for providers to get paid at around previous rates.

mean_bean279 ,

It’s all his supporters up in the hills that catch on fire anyways. California had more people vote for Donald Trump than anywhere else. Every time he threatens them and they clap I have to wonder if they realize they’re hurting themselves in their own confusion. (Short answer, they don’t)

Another mass shooting

ininewcrow , in Boeing strike: bosses bruised, blindsided and on brink of crisis
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

When all powerful bosses who think they control everything and everyone realize who has the most power.

Good for the workers … now watch government lackies step in to support big business.

Whatever happens it should show the country that solidarity matters … hopefully it spreads everywhere else.

APassenger ,

If the government steps in, I expect them to make the point to bosses - “fix this. We aren’t undermining labor and your company is of national import. Unfuck your shit, it’s not our problem and it isn’t theirs. Figure it out.”

Chocrates ,

That’s now how Biden works, at least in regards to the train strike. He prefers to hope he can convince the capitalists when there is no pressure and in secret. Somehow it seemed to actually work, though I’m pretty sure the workers didn’t get a lot of what they wanted.

Enkers ,

Somehow it seemed to actually work

Tell that to East Palestine. Train derailments are on the rise because of lax safety measures, and this was one of the issues that the workers were trying to resolve. Instead Biden had congress force them back to work.

Chocrates ,

I vaguely recall he got some concessions. But agree it is a travesty and still extremely under regulated.

Bonskreeskreeskree ,

Just like when biden sided with the rail workers right??? Ooo wait… he told them to get back to work or get arrested…

_tezz , (edited )

Biden got the rail workers what they asked for, this isn’t quite right.

ibew.org/media-center/…/230620_IBEWandPaid

“We’re thankful that the Biden administration played the long game on sick days and stuck with us for months after Congress imposed our updated national agreement,” Russo said. “Without making a big show of it, Joe Biden and members of his administration in the Transportation and Labor departments have been working continuously to get guaranteed paid sick days for all railroad workers.”

vanontom ,
@vanontom@lemmy.world avatar

I’m trying to imagine how T**** would try to handle this. First, extort Boeing execs in exchange for help. Then, once the “donations” clear, use all powers and pressures to crush the strike, firing so-called strike leaders (illegal? add it to the pile…), and dump in more police/military for intimidation.

Bernie and progressives will undoubtedly fully support workers, join the line. Biden can strengthen his “most pro-union president” legacy (it’s a low bar, not perfect). Great opportunity for Harris and Walz (but it needs to be very strong or it will only disappoint).

Skuldug , (edited ) in RFK Jr says he faces federal investigation for beheading whale

We need someone to make a RFK’s Van Adventures cartoon. Why does he always have such random shit in the back of his van all the time?

AI_toothbrush , in We're losing our digital history. Can the Internet Archive save it?

No because it is being sued to dust

ravhall , in Boeing strike: bosses bruised, blindsided and on brink of crisis

Boeing killed John Barnett

wjrii , in US Naval Academy to defend race-conscious admissions policies at trial

Cadets and Midshipmen are recommended by elected officials, and their future employers have management needs that will go way beyond “Cooper got two points higher on the SAT after his parents paid for twenty prep classes.” I will be interested to see what this particular SCOTUS thinks when confronted with the US military saying “we need this to optimize national security.”

catloaf , in California firefighters' union: Trump should 'be ashamed' over threat to withhold firefighting aid

I don’t think he’s capable of feeling shame.

Atelopus-zeteki ,

Right, so as US citizens it is imperative that we never put him in a position of power over any other person, ever. That's step one. Step two is to convict him and punish him for all the crimes he has committed.

someguy3 , in RFK Jr says he faces federal investigation for beheading whale

Did Trump say he’ll pardon him? Is that why he endorsed Trump?

PugJesus , in US Naval Academy to defend race-conscious admissions policies at trial

This fucking broken-ass fascist SCOTUS: “The US military is too WOKE”

ravhall , in A thousand pigs just burned alive in a barn fire

Came here to see dead cops, got bacon. Poor piggies. 😭
