ChicagoTransplant , in Political violence becomes America's new norm - but is still shocking

The chickens are coming home to roost for a man who promised everything to everyone, delivered nothing to them, and whipped them up into a frenzy over nonsense.

PugJesus , in Meta bans RT and other Russian state networks

Good riddance.

Drusas , in Cut up and leased out, the bodies of the poor suffer a final indignity in Texas

Isn't this the sort of thing that can happen when you check the box saying you're willing to be an organ donor?

JusticeForPorygon ,
@JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world avatar

No iirc donating your body to science and organ donation are completely different.

And it doesn’t sound like he donated his body to science, if he did there would almost definitely be a paper trail because it is a hell of a hassle.

Scipitie , (edited )

Yes. And the “survivors” don’t have a say in that if the person itself said otherwise before dying.

Training future doctors is a good cause and will most likely save lives in a similar fashion to donating a heart after all.

Edit: I removed a wrong part here claiming that the article is clickbait. I was off by a mile, see the reply to this post as to why.

mosiacmango , (edited )

In no way is this clickbait. It’s a truly ugly thing that was done to these people.

None of these people volunteered their bodies to science.

The college made a deal with 2 Texas counties to take homeless peoples bodies, “try” to find their relatives, and if they couldnt, then sell their bodies to companies, hospitals and the US army. The college made $2 million+ selling these peoples bodies without consent, to the point where they were expanding their cadavers storage facilities.

Can you see the issue with an organization that is responsible for finding the loved ones of these dead people, but is paid millions of dollars if they don’t? Turns out, after filing a foia request, the reporters were able to find dozens of these homeless people families, sometimes within minutes of trying. Many times there were active missing persons reports, or in one case the next of kin lived in the same city and had the same name as his deceased father. In one case, the family found out about their deceased father after he was already sold. To get him back, they were made to sign a waver allowing the donations. They sold the body again, and did not return it for 1.5 years. When they did, his ashes came in a box with a generic thank you letter and a bill of $56 for shipping.

On publishing their results, the multimillion dollar corpse factory shut itself down and fired its directors. The two Texas counties working with them are opening investigations. When the reporters contacted the companies and the army about the bodies, they all confirmed that they thought the bodies came from intentional and purposeful donations. None of them knew the actual source.

Scipitie ,

Hm I was clearly wrong, I apologize! The excuse is that I was really tired and already quite “clickbait state of mind” ish.

Thank you for taking the time to write this! ♥

It’s probably more like a clause in their military contracts

merc , in Trump Directly Blames Harris and Biden’s Words for the Latest Attempt On His Life: ‘Their Rhetoric is Causing Me to Be Shot at’

It’s got to be driving him absolutely nuts that the second shooter is also a presumably christian, straight, white, man. Anything else and he could work with it. White woman? Women are too emotional and shouldn’t be trusted to make important decisions. Black man? Go-go all out on the racism. Brown skinned? Anti immigration fear mongering. Trans or gay? Groomer nonsense. Anything other than Christian and he could fearmonger about their foreign religions.

Literally the only identity he can’t exploit is christian, straight, white men and they’re the ones who keep trying to kill him.

It’s only the norm for one group of people.

These comments are nuts, why are people happy about this? Did we swap over to sucking off china???

mlg ,
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

I think people are mad that they keep nuking trade and trying to ramp up military involvement for a double solvable issue that would repair both the economy at home and negate a trade war with China.

Except that invovles proper market regulation and not slapping tariffs to protect monopoly profits.

Probably just hit a nerve with people that China’s usual tactics of slamming boats is suddenly worthy of America getting invovled just because a news crew was onboard, but 10 months of actual warzone genocide reporting in Israel means nothing to the government.

Either that or there’s just a bunch of pissed off tankies lmao.

Harvey656 ,

I mean I get that, but this is pretty separate from Isreal, and this is the third time I’ve seen them do this myself. Seems like it’s at least somewhat newsworthy. You can in fact have both the genocide news and this stuff too.

Maggoty ,

Having looked, it’s pissed off tankies.

buddascrayon , in Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week

Amazon shares ticked lower in afternoon trading.

I’m gonna have a really great laugh if/when the share price nose dives because office personnel start bugging out.

This whole “I want us to operate like the world’s largest startup” crap is just infantile for the CEO of a multi-national conglomerate to be spouting and making into corporate policy. No one wants to work for a multimillion dollar “startup” with over a million and a half employees.

Working for startups is stressful as fuck and the incentives are to get a piece of the pie once the startup goes big. Amazon is already massive and the pie has already been eaten by those who came before. All they have left is corporate stability and he’s just kicked the legs out from under that.

FelixCress ,

My beautiful new currency is taking the market by a landslide, and we are not even there yet. We have just started. And you know what? We’re doing great. But we’re getting there. You know, they say that if Trump doesn’t start his own crypto, it’s over. It’s over, folks. If he does, no currency is ever going to be better. They’re never gonna — he’s got such great ideas. He’s done an incredible job for us. So we’ll see what happens, but I’m telling you, this is one of those things.
