alcoholicorn , in FBI says there appeared to be an assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf course

If you look up the guy’s (now deleted) twitter, the guy was a pro-NATO nutcase who I guess earnestly believed Trump would disband NATO.

I’m not calling all people who are pro-NATO nutcases, I mean the dude was mentally ill and extremely pro NATO, claimed he had thousands of “NATO-trained Afghan troops” ready to defend Taiwan, claimed he was going to go fight in Ukraine, tried to buy a rocket from Elon Musk to assassinate Putin, etc.

Here’s his extremely hinged website: taiwanforeignlegion.com

Thebeardedsinglemalt ,

earnestly believed Trump would disband NATO.

TBF the orange turd has been very vocal about leaving NATO, which has been tied specifically to allowing Russia to invade Ukraine

alcoholicorn ,

He also claimed the purpose of the threat was to strengthen NATO by getting more countries to increase their military budgets. Trump isn’t anti-imperialist.

ipkpjersi ,

I’m pro-NATO and also concerned that Trump will disband NATO, and even I think that guy is a complete nutcase.

alcoholicorn , (edited )

If I actually believed he would disband NATO and dismantle the American empire, for the sake of most of humanity, I’d have to vote for him.

The only reason he is threatening NATO is because he feels it’s not doing enough imperialism.

I didn’t believe him in 2016, and the fact that he didn’t do it makes him even less credible than he was back then.

ansiz , in 4 wounded at Brooklyn train station when officers shoot man wielding knife

So one of the cops shot the other cop in the torso? Talk about a well trained police force. It’s like something out of Naked Gun. And clearly the cops being there clearly made the situation much worse and injured more people. These stooges should never carry a gun again.

I’m sure NYC will be on the hook for a few lawsuits out of this one situation alone that will at least get into the low millions! Great job NYPD for a subway fare!

ASDraptor ,

They don’t care. After all, you know who’s paying those lawsuits? Yep, you guessed right: taxpayers. So every NYC citizen is going to pay for what these fuckwads did.

MonkderVierte , in Calls for J.D. Vance to resign after he admits that he created pet-eating story about immigrants

But no calls for Trump to resign?

It’s ALL coming from your own party, dude

Thebeardedsinglemalt ,

Not just his party but…

  • One person from his party genuinely from and representing his state
  • Another person from his oarty he has helped make laws to aid in getting them reelected
catloaf , in As families searched, a Texas medical school cut up their loved ones

Not sure why NBC is framing this as a problem with how the bodies were used, when it’s clearly a problem with the Texas officials who are selling bodies with zero effort to notify anyone. Like one literally had a missing person report out for them!

The people in charge of the program are getting fired, and an outside consulting firm is being hired to investigate. So, I imagine there will be a follow up later on with more details on that front.

It doesn’t inspire confidence that there wasn’t the oversight to prevent this however. These are human remains, not widgets.

girlfreddy OP , in Is ‘Judge Judy’ on the Supreme Court? Lack of civics knowledge leads to colleges filling the gap
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Here’s an AP citizenship quiz, if you want to test your knowledge.

apnews.com/projects/us-civics-quiz/

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The AP citizenship quiz shouldn’t be AP, it should be a requirement to graduate.

BrokenGlepnir ,

I think ap doesn’t mean advanced placement, but associated press. Or I got whooshed.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Oops. I stand by my general statement. Passing a civics quiz should be required to graduate high school.

dhork ,

Most states (perhaps all of them?) require at least a year of US history to get a HS diploma. They do not guarantee the students retain the knowledge after passing the class, of course.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

A year of U.S. history and a civics class are in no way the same.

Soulfulginger ,

US history and US govt are required courses in most high schools. The information they teach is generally what would be on the citizenship test

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. And other standardized test subjects are taught in classes.

girlfreddy OP ,
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

It is the Associated Press. Damn, I should have clarified that. My bad.

catloaf ,

One would think the apnews.com link and Associated Press site would be a good indicator.

SoupBrick ,

I agree civics is immensely important, but I think we might have bigger issues in our education system.

I got them all right, including the number of Representatives, which is something that Jill Stein (who is actually running for president) didn’t know.

  1. But I knew that because I read about her dumbass answer. But I thought it was 140 before, so I was still more correct than her and I’m not even running for president.

I’m now announcing my candidacy. Vote some_guy.

PyroNeurosis ,

6/10. Not bad for never having taken a US civics course.

Miffed I missed the Bill o’Rights one. As ever, need to slow down and read the question better.

CmdrShepard42 ,

Was it the one about how many amendments are in the bill of rights? I picked 20 since I know we have close to that (but apparently 11+ aren’t considered part of the BoR?).

JWBananas ,
@JWBananas@lemmy.world avatar

The Bill of Rights (amendments 1-10) specifically addressed debate over ratification of the Constitution.

…m.wikipedia.org/…/United_States_Bill_of_Rights

FireTower ,
@FireTower@lemmy.world avatar

BoR are the first 10/27 amendments. They were all ratified in 1791. Federalists thought that the structural elements laid out in the main document would protect people’s rights but Antifederalists insisted on codifying specific rights and the BoR was a promise to get more people on board with the idea of the Constitution.

This, I've known people who got knocks on their door by the FBI and SS for posting dumb shit they weren't serious about as a "joke." They take that shit seriously I guess only when its lone wolves that can't do as much damage and not people rich enough to fund a small army.

But rich people have a different set of rules. And people who are unimaginably rich have no rules.

Isn't the straightforward answer to his question that people don't want Harris or Biden dead enough to put themselves at risk of death or arrest?

Why be baffled when the answer is obvious?

Honytawk ,

Because he wants to spread rumors of conspiracy theories, as that is the only thing that would redeem someone like Trump.

njm1314 ,

We should also point out that because Trump said he’s going to be put in a cabinet position we can take this as a direct word from the Trump campaign.
