TransplantedSconie , in Biden dropped out because “the most important thing” is “we must defeat Trump”: CBS News

Thanks for your service, Diamond Joe. You did the world a service in beating Trump in 2020. Harris/Walz will finish him off, and we can get back to righting the ship the Republicans keep drilling holes in.

PugJesus , in Racism Is Why Trump Is So Popular

John Brown didn’t get to kill enough slavers, that’s why we’re all here. We gave the racists a little rope, and now they’re trying to hang us with it. Been that way ever since Reconstruction ended.

Opposition to racism must be enduring. It must be absolute. It can brook no compromise, because compromise is tacit agreement to the validity (however small or marginal) of the opposition’s point, and racism is based on an absurdity. And when a society starts validating absurdities… well, look at Trump.

and the fact the confederacy was allowed to “live in on” in memory as heritage, and allowed statues honouring traitors to the United States

If you allow confederate statues to honour enemies of the country, why are there no statues honouring the british red coats from the war of independence? Where are the statues honouring soviet spies executed for espionage?

PugJesus ,

Constructed largely after the cowards were all dead, in the civil rights era. And yet some people still insist that it’s ‘history’ to leave them standing instead of a blatant attempt to cement the United States as a ‘White Man’s’ polity.

Fuck them.

If you allow confederate statues to honour enemies of the country, why are there no statues honouring the british red coats from the war of independence? Where are the statues honouring soviet spies executed for espionage?

Let’s make some 9/11 memorials to commemorate those brave hijackers too.

It’s fucking absurd, and while I know HOW it got started, I don’t know how it got started. You know what I mean? Like, I understand the conditions that led to the rise of Lost Causer nonsense, but I just can’t wrap my fucking head around the idea that everyone just fucking normalized it. Like, even if you are a racist (as most 19th century Americans were to at least some degree), what the fuck kind of lunatic country commemorates the ‘heroism’ of literal traitors and secessionists who killed hundreds of thousands of our countrymen?

Sherman didn’t burn enough.

Linkerbaan OP , (edited ) in Sweden Drops Case Against Dutch Eurovision Contestant
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Now you might be thinking “how is israel to blame for this one”? Let me explain

The head sponsor of Eurovision is

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a9c6a8f8-02d8-4118-afcc-0782f8dcc37c.png

Moroccan right? Wrong. “Moroccanoil is an Israeli cosmetics company headquartered in New York City

So what does Joost Klein have to do with israel being the main sponsor of Eurovision?

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/ec0b76ef-0ba6-467e-983f-9c5e1d620af4.png

During the Eurovision songfestival Joost Klein was seated next to israel for interviews, where he wrapped himself in the Dutch flag. A journalist asked Eden Golan if she felt she was endangering other contestants by being there. Her sidekick said she did not have to answer that question to which Joost suddenly said “Why not”.

Afterwards Joost was harrassed by israeli journalists

unexposedhazard ,

I mean anyone with two braincells intuitively knew that this was about israel. Doesnt take a genius to figure that one out…

AmidFuror ,
  1. I don't comment in the majority of your posts on Israel / Gaza.
  2. I only come across Israel / Gaza posts from you. It's possible you post about other things in magazines (communities) I don't subscribe to. I just looked at a couple of your meme posts. They were also about Israel.

Yeah even the article says “bicyclist” while the title just says “bicycle”. Strange wording choice.

Oh no I meant you were right. The article clarifies it, but the title is still odd the way it only says he hit a bicycle.

Cool, the thing we were assured wouldn’t happen because free market or something.

Even if it’s decided that the EPA has the proper authority, the damage will be done by the time it makes its way through the courts.

The EPA order requires the development of a system specifically designed for PFAS. A similar system is estimated to cost about $25m to develop, or about 0.1% of the air force’s annual budgeting.

My favorite thing is to ask a gun nut to recite the 2nd Amendment. It’s one sentence:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

They never know it. They usually kinda know it, but they never actually know how it’s written.

So I tell them that it’s this Marx quote:

Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered, any attempts to disarm the people must be stopped, by force if necessary.

    And they believe me.
