Just imagine if our national infrastructure was as neglected as the maintenance on these buildings. That sure would be expensive to sort out if we ever get around to it!

HubertManne ,

yeah but luckily we have been collecting appropriate amount of tax for the last 50 years so even if it happens we can just pull from our massive rainy day fund or borrow since we have no deficit.

catloaf ,

The deficit is not related to future spending.

Well, it might affect the credit rating of the country, but it would take a lot for that to happen.

HubertManne ,

the deficit is related to our options for future spending needs. More available credit and of course rainy day funds remove the need to borrow for emergencies.

Let’s associate a nuclear power plant with Elon’s record of dumping mercury in waterways and not giving a shit about safety.

If Elon musk goes into nuclear energy I guarantee you, the plant he would make will have a meltdown that would make Fukushima and Chernobyl look tame by comparison.

Do you know how difficult it is for a right-wing conspiracy nut in Tennessee to fuck around enough that they actually find out?

InquisitiveApathy ,

Seriously. There is either some serious misconduct going on or this police chief definitely didn’t come up with a polite enough excuse not to attend their bosses bosses boss’s church fundraiser.

Investigate the hospital staff as well. This guy kept telling them he had a baggie of fentanyl in him and insisting he needed urgent care, but the nurses and hospital staff kept brushing him off and ignoring his pleas

microphone900 , in Tennesee Bureau of Investigation limits Millersville's access to sensitive law enforcement data, chief says in podcast interview

This is the latest in a 14 part investigation that started in May 2024 and just wow. The story gets more insane and unhinged with each part that’s released.

EnderMB , in Donald Trump says he will flee to Venezuela if he loses election [Newsweek]

As a former President, can he?

I’m not American, but my assumption was that the President’s role was one for life, in that he will always have a presidential security detail with him, and while he can travel abroad it’s probably only to countries with good diplomatic ties with the US.

A former President moving outside of a friendly jurisdiction could be a huge security issue that he couldn’t just wave away.

tacosanonymous ,

He can do anything he wants. There are rules they follow for decorum, receiving security briefings, and retaining secret service protection.

anon6789 , in Trump campaign forced to pay North Carolina city $82k in advance for rally
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville’s policy for short-notice bookings

This makes it sound more like coincidence than the city actually doing anything about Trump being a deadbeat.

Not complaining, since that is a fair policy to have, but it doesn’t sound like anyone is “sticking it to him” like the article makes it sound.

While it would be improper to prohibit Trump to speak just because he is crap, if he is a known deadbeat, I don’t know why some of these places don’t pass an amendment to prohibit anyone renting space while they currently have past due fees. If Trump or whoever it may be stiffs the city, it’s the residents picking up that loss, which is unfair to everyone.

ccunning OP ,

I actually put this paragraph in the description of the original post:

While the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville’s policy for short-notice bookings, Trump has a long history of failing to paycities for billed rally fees, leaving the White House in January 2021 with at least $850,000 in unpaid rally debt. Most of the bills are still unpaid, including more than $500,000 owed to the city of El Paso, Texas.

…but I guess the description doesn’t get included in crossposts (at least for some clients).

Not complaining, since that is a fair policy to have, but it doesn’t sound like anyone is “sticking it to him” like the article makes it sound.

I think the article is fair, but the headline is misleading.

anon6789 ,
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

Lol my bad, I went right to reading the article without reading the summary and pointed it out because it was tucked into the middle of the full article.

Now that I see it, great job on your part, I’m not used to seeing the important details in the blurb!
