Blackbeard , in This Supreme Court has redefined the meaning of corruption.

Government power to limit corporate corruption? No sir!

Government power to charge the President with crimes? No sir!

Government power to interpret Congressional statutes? No sir!

Government power to ban firearms? No sir!

Government power to limit religious influence in public schools? No sir!

Government power to distort voting districts to ensure partisan outcomes? A-OK!

Government power to restrict maternal healthcare? A-OK!

Government power to criminalize homelessness? A-OK!

Conservatives care about one thing, and one thing only: ceding power to in groups and stripping power from out groups. Small government for me, big government for thee. “Originalism” is a method for armoring existing and historical power structures, and “conservatism” is the weapon which can be selectively deployed against anything that undermines or weakens those power structures.

War crimes “in honor of Shabbat”? I hope any remaining diaspora members of conscience who haven’t already been troubled by all this are hearing about this framing. Both horrific in its malevolence and a misrepresentation of Judaism all in one go!

Huckledebuck OP , in 4029tv: Law professor discusses legal developments in Arkansas abortion amendment case

“There’s a difference in the law,” Silverstein said. “Different requirements apply to paid canvassers than volunteer canvassers. That’s just the way it is. The reason the law is written that way is principally, there’s a worry that because paid canvassers have a financial interest in collecting signatures, there’s a concern that they will be more likely to make mistakes. More likely to violate the law. More likely to do something that’s unethical.”

What i don’t understand is that if there is enough forethought by lawmakers that money corrupts, then why can’t they see it is not just petition workers that are vulnerable?

Erasmus , in Heavy metal in most chocolates may not pose health risk, researchers say
@Erasmus@lemmy.world avatar

This is an odd timed article because I just saw two yesterday, one on CNN and one on another site saying the exact opposite.

Both discussed how heavy metals, specifically lead, was found in most dark chocolates from around the world now due to over use of fertilizers and even in the organic brands.

So now am reading it’s okay to eat it in little doses? Maybe just a little lead is okay? 😂

LustyArgonianMana ,
@LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not okay to eat heavy metals in any amount because they accumulate in your bones and get released later when your bone density goes down. That’s literally why Alzheimer’s (which can be caused by heavy metals like aluminum) happens in old age.

UpperBroccoli , in McDonald's to 'rethink' prices after first sales fall since 2020

My boss at work went to pick up some McDonald’s food a few months ago, not particularly because he wanted to eat that, but because he wanted one of those free glasses that came with the meal - honestly, what a strange reason, right?.

He was sick for a solid two weeks due to salmonella. If I have had any desire to go eat there again, it evaporated when he told me that.

echodot ,

Not to try and discredit your or your boss or anything but a lot of people assume that they got salmonella from the last food they ate. Usually it’s from food they ate a day or so ago, as the incubation time is between 24 and 48 hours.

If he got sick right after eating McDonald’s food then it’s probably just a coincidence. Have he got sick 2 or 3 days later then yeah it was probably the McDonald’s burger.

Also what free glass?

jumjummy , in AIPAC Used Distorted Photo of Cori Bush in $7 Million Negative Ad Blitz

And yet I’m sure the AIPAC would be totally ok with photo edits of Jewish candidates being stereotyped, right? It’s not like nobody has ever done that before.

What absolute hypocrites.

circuscritic , (edited )

AIPAC isn’t a Jewish lobby, it’s an Israeli lobby.

To that end, they would absolutely like Jewish caricatures to turn up in campaign ads and just in general. Anything that helps push Jewish migration to Israel.

Their biggest objective is securing migration to Israel to bolster it’s population. Population transfers with Russia are one of the biggest reasons why Israel didn’t go against them in regards to overtly supporting Ukraine.

So, rising ambient levels anti-semitism are actually good for AIPAC. They won’t say that publicly, but it’s not exactly a secret.

Snapz , in Starbucks is reeling as customers go elsewhere, sales decline

I suggest a community owned and operated service where we can offer Starbucks and McDonald’s words of support during these especially difficult times…

But exactly because the times are difficult for them right now, WE CAN CHARGE THEM SURGE PRICING for the supportive messages!!! Let’s also fire conduct an employment status reassignment activity for 60% of the human message writer workforce and replace them with AI and cheap offshore call centers!!! Also, let’s sell our now collected sadness data on Starbucks and McDonald’s to our third party partners like Kleenex so that they can also charge them surge prices for tissues as we have reliable data to show that they are crying right now!!!

AlexWIWA , in American flags should be born in the USA now, too, Congress says

I don’t get why people are tilted about this. The government should always buy US made unless the item literally cannot be found from a US manufacturer.

Tax payer money should stay in the country when possible. Yeah it’s a small issue but I doubt much time was spent on this
