zombuey , in Trump says he received a letter saying he's a target of DOJ's Jan. 6 investigation

Do investigators often send letters tipping off suspects?

thingsomething ,

If the investigator thinks the suspect will rush to social media to further implicate themself, yes.

ghostface , in Tennessee Black women 2.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes: report

npr black maternity crisis I would put this just on Memphis. It’s an issue effect black ppl across the US. For various reasons, but mainly the staff being overworked and dismissive. Nothing intentional to point

afraid_of_zombies , in 16 false Trump electors face felony charges in Michigan

Man I want a big greasy cheeseburger so bad. Dieting is not an enjoyable experience.

afraid_of_zombies , in Home searched in Tupac Shakur murder investigation

My youngest is getting into playing simple English rounds on the violin. Like the Tailor and the Mouse.

asparagus9001 OP ,

Neat! I found that after some time playing the guitar I was able to fundamentally understand how a violin works. They’re very similar instruments, in many ways (especially if you are playing pizzicato on the violin.)

I’m still no good at… either one of them really, but I find that every time I even spend a month messing around with an instrument I gain a deeper understanding of how they all work, and music in general.

MyOpinion , in Johnson & Johnson sues Biden administration over drug-pricing policies

J&J needs government review of price fixing I think. They have been robbing us long enough.

MisterD , in Handheld Gaming Consoles Will Soon Require Replaceable Batteries

Am I the only one worried that the manufacturers will just have two versions of the same product? One for North America with glued batteries and one for the EU with replaceable batteries.

reddig33 , in Cybersecurity labeling for smart devices aims to help people choose those less vulnerable to hacking

This isn’t going to accomplish much. The best exploits are the ones that haven’t been discovered yet, so there’s no way to test for them. See also all the counterfeit crap on Amazon that’s somehow “MiFi certified” and “UL listed”. Companies that make sketchy crap will just slap a fake version of this label on their packaging.

ImFresh3x , in AT&T stock fell to 29-year low on Friday after reports that telcoms will need to cleanup the lead pollution they made

In more than two decades covering the telecom industry, we’ve never heard mention of an issue related to lead in cable sheathing. The WSJ cites a 2010 presentation to AT&T employees as proof that the firm has been aware of the issue, but that is not in dispute. Both the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health websites house research conducted in the 1990s around complaints to OSHA from wire strippers who reported elevated blood lead levels, with steps to ensure worker safety. The Environmental Protection Agency has also studied cable sheathing materials, including through a partnership with the University of Massachusetts’ Toxic Use Reduction Institute. Nothing suggests telecom firms failed to follow proper procedures to protect employees when dealing with these cables, which were last deployed in the 1960s.

Broken bones? How is that a symptom?!?

AttackBunny ,

I hope it’s just a catch all data kind of thing. Like anything anyone has wrong with them gets lumped in to be filtered later. Idk. I’m guessing here.

noisefree ,

I think it’s probably “bone pain” scrambled in translation, since it’s a dengue fever outbreak.

athos77 ,

I suspect it's a translation issue. @noisefree linked in another, less sensational article that says this is dengue fever. And the old name for dengue fever was "break-bone fever", because of the massive amount of bone and joint pain it caused.

thepiguy ,

Oh thank you. That is much less terrifying.

Symptoms such as high temperatures, broken bones, vomiting, dizziness, and headaches have left the community grappling with uncertainty and fear.

I think I’d be too. High fevers are one thing, but I don’t want my bones broken on top of that.

I had no idea the company was run by such huge assholes. I don’t think I’ve ever been to an In-n-Out, and now I know to avoid them.

skepticalifornia ,
@skepticalifornia@lemmy.world avatar

You’re not missing anything - they are pretty overrated with a very limited menu. In my opinion 5 Guys is better.

regular_human ,
@regular_human@lemmy.world avatar

And 5 guys is already overrated af

Clocksstriking13 ,

Isn’t the appeal of in-n-out the lower price point compared to other fast food burger places, rather than the options or stellar flavor? 5 guys is way more expensive and the customization/taste reflects that.

skepticalifornia ,
@skepticalifornia@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed that 5 Guys is pricier (although here in CA fast food prices everywhere are through the roof) but, and this is just my opinion, which is basically worthless to anyone else - if I am going to pay In-n-out prices, I’d rather just go to Wendy’s or McDonalds. Although I will say that the shakes at in-n-out are the best, again just my opinion.

Galluf ,

5 guys is better, but also more than twice the price.

In N out isn’t the best, but they’re the best for their price.

frogfruit ,

P. Terry’s is comparable, but fairly new and currently limited to 30 or so locations in Texas.

vaultdweller013 ,

So why compare it to IN-N-Out a company largely based in california.

frogfruit ,

Because In N Out is also in Texas (my city has both), they are comparable in quality/price, and they are presently expanding. I’m sorry this information does not help you specifically, but that does not mean it’s useless to everyone.
