I’d never had a gun before I joined the army After I got out I was shocked to learn gun without a safety were a thing. Still just seems insane to me even though I get why they don’t.

zombuey ,

I think they are failing to emphasize the novel method Ukraine used to attack. Using submersible drones. Ukraine has been trying to build a drone navy.

Boris Epshteyn

Would make sense as he is a Russian asset I would have to wonder who was really doing the recruiting here lol.

zombuey ,

He absolutely would not have a point here. She would not face these sorts of consequences regardless for the same reason Pence, Biden, Bush, and numerous others have not. When it was discovered they may have had confidential information they and were asked and they immediately began cooperating with officials. Not so for Trump. In addition the type and scale of that classified information is in a class all its own in this case. You cannot use an past events for comparison in this case because it is completely unprecedented the disregard for law and the norms is on a whole different level from anything that has come before it.

zombuey ,

lol listening to NPR news talk about this was fascinating. They only provided the facts, but they definitely were emphasizing words. The reaction to this tid bit from the interviewer had so much in it “Really, Fascinating” but she somehow said that in a tone that really said “oh! he’s fucked”. The announcement of the indictment was “Trump has been indicted, AGAIN” in a tone that basically said, “really dude how many laws did you fucking break?”

zombuey ,

Well…said

The apparatus should face justice as well as be evaluated. I could argue the electoral college system had one useful trait and that was to be a hedge against populist politicians. In this event that system has been shown the be ineffective. A political party has been able to weaponize stupidity against our nation.

I kind of get it though social media boosts confidence in bias beliefs but those bias beliefs are already there people just weren’t as loud about them or inclined to act on them like they are now.

Sadly he is likely permanently tarnished. It’s important to note in this case 3 of the people involved in the event alleged filed suit civilly before the criminal trial even began. That’s important because people generally wait for the outcome of a criminal case before suing so that they don’t have to reprove facts. This leads me to believe they all knew the allegations were false and were trying to collect before that was shown in court. As far as the Anthony Rapp case went I am unsure what happened there to it was almost immediately dismissed but they were 40 year old allegations. The was another case where a man claimed he was groped by spacey in a bar but they were dropped almost immediately by the DA.

Fuck now ima have to update some wiki articles again. It’s like updating a clock to doomsday.

So Anheuser-Busch is doing absolutely fine better than last years and last quarter. What I find absolutely HILARIOUS is these morons switching to other Anheuser-Busch brands in protest. Despite mostly fake news about their demise. They will eventually all just forget about this and move on to their new stupid thing. The dip from this was so small that there wasn’t even really an opportunity to make any money off it. it valleyed at 53 just before a record high of 66 the month prior but its already bouncing back at 58. I wouldn’t invest right now unless you’re looking long-term because they ain’t going nowhere. Also Bud Light sucks why do these idiots drink this shit.

China would happily attack Taiwan and would have already if it weren’t for the backdraft they would receive from trade partners and for the horrendous outcome of the Ukraine war. They are desperate to conquer Taiwan and getting hold of their semiconductor manufacturing facilities is a wet dream for the Chinese.

zombuey , (edited )

lol well if you knew your history you would know they tried and failed. The PLA lost at the battle of Guningtou which effectively halted their advance towards Taiwan. Then the Korean War started and completely changed their priorities for years to come. Ever since then it’s been a back and forth arms race of Taiwan’s ROC maintaining a sufficient military readiness up to around 1980 as to deter China from taking action. Then the US got heavily involved and Taiwan became a center for semi conductor manufacture. It became a critical partner for countries around the world because of this and this bolstered the ROC’s access to advanced western military equipment and help from nations dependent on Taiwanese industry also China itself became a major trade partner with Taiwan(bizarre right?). But the new CCP and PLA leadership of today are not like their counterparts of the past. Pooh Bear is a true despot who really wants the one China dream and cares little for the people. He has expressed real interest in aggression regardless of cost and needs a distraction to economic woes. Much like his Slavic counterpart’s dream of reuniting the USSR pooh also has the One China bug hence actions taken in Hong Kong. He would have been all to happy to conduct and all out invasion and there was real evidence he planned to do so; However, the Ukrainian response I believe took them by surprise and Taiwan is much better prepared to repel an attack than Ukraine was.

zombuey ,

I feel like you didnt read my response since it explains why in those 74 years they havent had a chance to do so and why things are different now. I also talk about how taiwans largest trade partner today is main land China. Reliable sources all acknowledge that ot isnt a secret.

Ok so that’s where your wrong. We have a unique and very complex and balanced first world prison system.

You see in America we use public prisons in a unique way. They are a business model. In a public prison the Administration uses service providers to provide things like Telecom for friends and family, JMS(Jail Management System) for managing the facility and its inmates, Commissary for supplying inmates with products, and many other services. In addition as other people have stated several facilities charge rent this is almost universally a county correctional facilities thing where inmates tend to be people awaiting trial, awaiting sentencing, on temporary hold, or inmate serving less than a year. There are some county mega facilities though now that are longer term and also charge rent. Now lets explore how this ends up working. A telecom service such as GTL(Global Tel Link which is the largest provider in the US) will charge friends and family up to 30 dollars (highly dependent on the facility and the agreement with the administration and the state) to setup an account with all fees and make a 15 minute call. 90+% of that goes to whats called a commission. This commission is paid back to the facility for use of the service. If that sounds like a bribe to you YOUR WRONG you see this is perfectly legal in most states and not a bribe of a public official at all!(very recent legislation has change this in some states (3) but it is still very legal in most states). There are many many ways to bribe officials especially sheriffs but this is the most overt one. Remember its not the inmate who generally pays this as they have no real means of income though some opputunities (we will get to that) their friend and family deposit it into their account and generally that account is tied in with their commissary account and that’s generally tied in to the JMS. The commissary business model works identically to the telecom model and these companies tend to offer a JMS essentially for free for obvious reasons. Many inmate especially in long term facilities just tell friends and family to not contact them in lieu of going broke. Thus disconnecting them from their friends and family completely which has a heavy impact on recidivism. Now the facility may have work opportunities as well and isn’t it ever so convenient that the amount you can get paid from those work opportunities happens to be JUST about as much as the facilities housing fee. Funny thing to if you don’t pay the housing fee while your in the facility the facility will take it out of you commissary account. So you either work as a slave or they take you ability to in the case of a female facility critically necessary health products(though most inmates resort to toilet paper). You see how wrong your were? This is a complex and very well thought out eldritch horror. The machinations of which truly boggle the mind. This isn’t even the horrid private prison. This is a publicly funded facility. I could share the endless horrors of the American prison system but its a special hell of which I wish to open no ones eyes to fully.

zombuey ,

I feel like third world prisons just aren’t as elegant in their distribution of human suffering. Its a dated an inefficient system, its unstainable in its ability to really bring horror to scale. The Venezuelan prison population only accounts for .002 percent of the population or around 67,000 inmates. In the US the prison population accounts for .005 percent of the total population or 1.8 million and ever rising. The US accounts for a quarter of all inmates in the world though we represent only 5% of the worlds population. We do human suffering by the numbers. We’ve chosen quantity of quality. In a venezuelan prison sure you might be more likely to get chopped up by a cartel and the system is overpopulated as hell (157% over capacity). But in america we will profit off your misery and we have room for everyone! Sure we have dismemberments to here and there, we have slave farms, and even some chain gangs. But the beauty of the America approach to inmate facilities is its sustainable and scalable model that allows it to grow endlessly and distribute human suffering at scales never before conceived of. We are achieving the tin pot dictators “American Dream”.

zombuey ,

I am aware. In America its a pretty taboo subject and its difficult to get the public to even pay attention to this issue. It would be nice to have systems in place that discourage recidivism but for many in the industry encouraging it is better for business. The only people that need to put on a face are sheriffs during election season.

zombuey OP ,

interesting to note that this is the highest interest rates have been since the early 2000’s

I gotta wonder if the same was true for them to.

That is quite the praise coming from a group of hardcore republicans. The is a clear message “Biden brings stability and financial markets like stability”

zombuey OP ,

The person your responding to is absolutely correct. For the majority of Biden’s career he was pretty despicable politician. He was one of the angry men yelling at the Anita Hill hearings. He famously lied about his credentials early on. For most of his career he has been owned by wall street. in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s he publicly had pretty hardcore racist and homophobic views. The Biden you see today is not the Biden most of America knows. He has never been a progressive ally.

zombuey OP ,

Those inflation numbers have been insane. I honestly did not believe the could gracefully recover. I am still shocked by this. I also think we can absolutely attribute measure taken by this administration to have directly had impact on the success of the economy today. Even if those step are not just “don’t be utterly incompetent” they have had an undeniably positive impact.

zombuey OP ,

well I mean it was disastrous but I am not sure the blame lies entirely on Trump. His response to COVID could have been different thats for sure. He could of not disbanded the agencies in charge of managing and planning for such an event…It might have been better to have far more competent people in charge than say his son-in-law…Ya know it really would have been beneficial if he had not used it as an opportunity to enrich his donors…on that note it would have been nice if he had headed the simple warnings given to him by security professionals on how to implement distribution…He probably should not have given out PPP to large corporation with plenty of capital before he gave it to small businesses…man he could have done more to convince his following to get vaccinated and given a more unilateral messaging to the public in general regarding following mandates. Ya know what fuck that guy.

well the right thinks anything that makes you not exactly like them is a crime. Including thinking and having different opinions and ideas. Therefore they do adhere?

I think you might be leaning towards the paradox of intolerance and the recent solution for it which has become very popular.

A tolerant society must be intolerant of intolerance.

This philosophical concept seems paradoxical but actually it’s been solved via another philosophical concept. The social contract. Hate speech in almost every instance violates the social contract thus putting those who engage in it in violation of the social contract. It is not being intolerant at that juncture to remove that person from society. It is not intolerance but a violation of contractual obligation.

This guy gets it. Gun Control has only been passed in this country in response to minority gun ownership. They have been poorly conceived at make no sense from the get go. It is near impossible to control inexpensive technologies and banning those technologies is a waste of time. We talk about gun violence but that’s the wrong conversation. We should be talking about violence and why that occurs. The gun is just a multiplier of violence not the actual problem.

Guns just as or much more dangerous were readily available by mail order in the 70’s and back so why weren’t these problems more profound then? For one at the end of the 70’s we did away with our entire mental health system and never replaced it. People seeking mental healthcare have few options in this country even with insurance as insurers have figured out if the neglect there provider lists then they pay less overall with zero ramifications and little to no loss in sales from large employer plans (who don’t prioritize the issue).

Mental Health education and health education overall is severely lacking in this country most people don't know the signs to identify a mental health problem or how to handle it even professionals did you know that males most commonly display signs of schizophrenia at 18 but women most often start to display signs at 27?

Poverty and Economic disparity though likely play the largest role. This country is quickly devolving due to rampant poverty and resources are flooding to the top with no stop in sight. I really tie both economic poverty and lack of access to reasonable education as both impact the country in relatively the same way. The major contributing factors are market monopolies, regulatory capture, over representation of corporations in our electoral system, and a broken electoral system. I won't go through all of these and there are absolutely more.

The good news is that the two things that would do the most to alleviate these things are possible. A move to ranked choice voting and a push for a single payer system for healthcare. The path may seem indirect but a ranked choice system would resolve the all or nothingness of our system and make it harder for corporations to fully corrupt our electoral process as they would need to do far more than simply push for a single side. a single payer system would eliminate insurers that have an incentive to avoid paying for mental healthcare and sever health and well-being as a reason to be a wage slave.
