cath , in Are G.O.P. Voters Tiring of the War on ‘Wokeness’?

Hate, anger and the church pulpit are the main things that drive a right wing voter.

The word may change, as it has many times in the past, but the emotion behind it will never be abandoned.

chem_bpy ,

It’s not even the church pulpit. It’s whatever shit they’re spewing on YouTube, newsmax, OAN, truth social, etc.

atx_aquarian ,
@atx_aquarian@lemmy.world avatar

Some “church” pulpits are helping spew that stuff, too. (Not all churches, and I’d go so far as to say not real churches. Political campaign theaters masquerading as religious institutions.)

bitsplease ,

Yeah, there’s absolutely nothing new about the war on “wokeness”, they just swap out the names every now and then

The PC Mob

The radical left

Antifa

SJWs

Socialists

Communists

They all mean the same thing in this context, but they know that people tire of specifics quickly, so they keep changing labels. I guess this study means that they’ll likely pick a new word for the boogeyman soon

CobblerScholar , in Are G.O.P. Voters Tiring of the War on ‘Wokeness’?

Probably, that’s why we’ll see another simple word that the mouth breathers can say like a magic spell. A spell that will make all the smarter people that constantly tell them they are wrong go away

style99 , in US scientists repeat fusion power breakthrough
@style99@kbin.social avatar

Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, who achieved ignition for the first time last year, repeated the breakthrough in an experiment on July 30 that produced a higher energy output than in December, according to three people with knowledge of the preliminary results.

The laboratory confirmed that energy gain had been achieved again at its laser facility, adding that analysis of the results was underway.

“Since demonstrating fusion ignition for the first time at the National Ignition Facility in December 2022, we have continued to perform experiments to study this exciting new scientific regime. In an experiment conducted on July 30, we repeated ignition at NIF,” it said.

“As is our standard practice, we plan on reporting those results at upcoming scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.”

The technocrats continue to lose to the jingoists. Jingoistic propaganda is a problem because it makes your population demand what you promised. When you don't, you get shit like Tiananmen square or a world war that you never wanted in the first place (and I promise you, the leaders don't want this war).

This organic marketing campaign thing sure worked out here.

induna_crewneck ,

Not sure how organic the marketing was here

typo ,

I made this comment somewhere else earlier… the only time I ever heard about it was from my physical therapist that I saw for a couple weeks

she was like “you see all those ads and previews for the barbie movie that’s coming out?” “No. I don’t usually see any ads or anything and I haven’t seen a movie preview in… years”

Also didn’t notice any “organic” posts about it on reddit (where I was at the time) or here (I joined at the start of the blackouts). only since opening weekend did I start seeing posts here about oppen/barbie

induna_crewneck ,

Don’t wanna pull the “are you living under a rock?”-card but I’ve seen tons of promotional material about it. I read about it when production started he took note because of the director and cast, then nothing for a while but in the months and weeks leading up to the release I saw an increasing amount of ads and press.

As reported by Variety, the marketing budget allocated to Barbie was a staggering $150 million

decadentrebel , in 'Barbie' makes history with $1 billion at the box office
@decadentrebel@lemmy.world avatar

I’m honestly not surprised. It’s one of those rare movies that has mass appeal (which guarantees it at least half a billion) and also a surprisingly good story that had critics and audiences raving about it.

I was only forced to watch it because I didn’t want to wait in the mall that long for Oppenheimer to start while the wife finishes Barbie. I haven’t been more satisfied and entertained by a blind watch since… Burning.

tills13 ,

Officially? There were still a lot of promising signs last I checked including a couple replications.

The difficult part seems to be the cooking process.

If nothing else, the material certainly has very interesting properties and can be iterated on.
