MicroWave OP , in Oil major BP posts 70% drop in second-quarter profit, raises dividend by 10%
@MicroWave@lemmy.world avatar

Like Shell, BP has attracted criticism in recent months for watering down its climate commitments. In 2020, the company committed to become a net-zero company “by 2050 or sooner,” then said earlier this year that it would scale back plans to cut carbon emissions by reducing its oil and gas output.

Zoldyck , in Call for large trial to see if kombucha helps Type 2 diabetes after 'very promising' results

The health benefits of fermented food in general are widely underestimated. And the huge negative impact of things like sugar and alcohol on your microbiome as well.

bernieecclestoned ,

Kombucha contains both sugar and alcohol

LoafyLemon ,

Guys, is alcohol made from fermented food? Is that really true? /s

hydroel ,

I don’t know how kombucha might be “good” for type 2 diabetics. The test sample in this study was of 12 people, I don’t think any conclusion can be drawn yet.

Kinyutaka ,

True, but hopefully the next study will be wider in scope.

doppelgangmember ,

SilverCode ,

I recently watched a YouTube video of someone making Kombucha and when they added in the large amount of sugar I thought that there is no way it is “healthy”. Ive never tried kombucha so I don’t know how sweet it should be, but I’m hoping that recipe was the outlier

SeaJ ,

If it is prior to fermentation, the bacteria will eat up most of the sugar and either make alcohol or carbonation.

afraid_of_zombies ,

The bacteria eat up a most of the sugar however it has sugar in it. I was into the homemade stuff for a while and if you spilled it outside ants had a party there the next day and you could feel that sticky sweet residue.

MicroWave OP , in Fulton County D.A. receives racist threats as charging decision against Trump looms
@MicroWave@lemmy.world avatar

She pointed to a threatening email she received last week with a subject line reading, “Fani Willis = Corrupt N*****.” The body of the email said, “You are going to fail, you Jim Crow Democrat whore.”

Willis said the message was “pretty typical” of what her office has been receiving and said she is aware of “equally ignorant voicemails” that have come into the county office and to her own office. She said she expects more over the next month. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported Wills’ warning to the county commissioners.

imPastaSyndrome ,

Wait… Jim Crow? How does that make sense…

HikingVet ,

That confused me as well.

WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Maybe they see Jim crow as a step backwards from what was around not long before?

CmdrShepard ,

Or maybe he’s living 1850s racism and considers Jim Crow racism too new and progressive.

Or he’s just a moron.

newthrowaway20 ,

Which is pretty on brand for ignorant racism if we’re gonna be honest.

dhork ,

They see their GEOTUS being held accountable for his crimes as a transgression against their race, and all the “wokeness” as just as much of a civil rights issue as when people were subjugated based on the color of their skin. Add in the fact that the Democrats were the racist party 100+ years ago, and you get the tortured logic that Democrats now are just as bad as they were then.

HikingVet ,

Yeah, this is why I don’t like being civil with right wing individuals.

nostalgicgamerz ,

It’s illegal to be an ignorant piece of shit who makes threats.

timespace ,

I agree if there were threats made. The article doesn’t cite any such threat.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Why exactly do you think she wrote, “Please make decisions that keep your staff safe?”

timespace ,

Out of an abundance of caution?

The article doesn’t provide any such threat being made. I’m not saying there weren’t threats made, I’m saying I don’t know, because the article doesn’t provide that information.

HikingVet ,

Do you need glasses or a lesson in context?

timespace , (edited )

Why are you being a cunt? Does the article list any threats or does it not? Can you read?

I’m not defending these assclowns. I don’t support racist idiots. I’m just pointing out that there aren’t any threats being made in the article, and the US has strong free speech laws - you’re allowed to call people racist names if you want to, it’s a protected right to do so. If any of these dumb fucks threatened the DA, then yes that is a punishable offense.

HikingVet ,

She pointed to a threatening email she received last week with a subject line reading, “Fani Willis = Corrupt N*****.”

Just because you didn’t get to read it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t threatening.

Yeah, I’m being a cunt (your words) because you seem to be seallioning.

These are credible and you just seem to want to downplay it.

So glasses or a lesson in context clues?

timespace ,

I’m not downplaying anything lmao. You’re reading so hard into my comments trying to find something that isn’t there.

I was questioning what people would be charged for, because the quotes in the article are not chargeable.

I’ll say it again because you clearly are having a tough time comprehending - if threats were made, those people should be charged with a crime.

HikingVet ,

So both. Got it.

They probably withheld the ACTUAL EVIDENCE because there probably is an ONGOING investigation.

timespace ,

Again, no evidence of any of that from the article. You keep injecting things without any evidence.

Carry on!

HikingVet ,

Do you have a better source? Or are you just pissing around because people are taking these people’s word on it? Because again you really haven’t shown why they shouldn’t be believed

timespace ,

Who should be believed? What are you on about?

I’m not sure how to make this any more clear - the article does not provide anything about threats being made or an ongoing investigation.

So my original question was, based on the linked article, what would these dumb racist fucks be charged with?

Since you seem to admit the article does not provide evidence of threats of bodily injury or harm being made, and no ongoing investigation thereto, it seems only reasonable to conclude at this time based on the evidence in the article there is not a charge that can be made against these dumb pieces of shit.

That’s my only point. That’s it. Are we on the same page yet?

HikingVet ,

Pretty sure a DA can tell whether the contents of the email that we are not privy to qualify as harassment or threats. JFC what kind of stunned cunt are you?

timespace ,

Again, you’re injecting - she is never quoted as saying such in the fucking article you thick twat.

Your clearly don’t understand the point I am making here. It’s like I’m talking to a 4 year old.

Free speech is protected. Threats against someone are not. Given the article, on what basis would charges be made against one of the people sending these gross emails?

I’ll spell it out for you, again. NONE. The DA doesn’t say she received threats in the article. The article only quotes nasty emails, that are void of threats.

doppelgangmember ,

The move is sure to anger Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, who is continuing a hold on senior military nominations that is now impacting more than 300 flag and general officers over the Pentagon’s abortion policy. NoStressyJessie ,

These people have spent decades pretending that Thomas Payne et all were good little Christian fundamentalists who thought that Christian rule was such a no brainer they just never thought any other religious group could exist, and that it is a foregone conclusion that all of law and order was divinely inspired by Judeo Christian thought and values, and didn’t exist prior, because nothing existed prior to their Stone Age fan fiction.

MicroWave OP , in Withering heat is more common, but getting AC is still a struggle in public housing
@MicroWave@lemmy.world avatar

Much public housing is decades old, built before central air was widely available, and it would be incredibly expensive to add it now. Many tenants get an allowance for utilities that includes heat, but federal rules actually specify that it not cover air conditioning. Residents are allowed to get their own AC units, but Deborah Thrope, of the National Housing Law Project, says most must pay for it and the monthly bills themselves.

lolcatnip ,

AC doesn’t have to mean central air. Window units and mini split systems exist.

MicroWave OP ,
@MicroWave@lemmy.world avatar

That’s not the issue though. The issue is that the low-income tenants have to pay for the portable units themselves. On top of that, federal subsidies for some reason do not cover air conditioning.

lolcatnip ,

I think we’re in agreement. What I was trying to get at was that the high cost of retrofitting buildings with central air shouldn’t be an excuse to leave those people without air conditioning.

Jakdracula , in Chinese zoo denies its sun bears are people in costume
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

It might sound like an implausible gambit. But zoos in China have courted public ridicule in the past for trying to pass off pets like dogs as wild animals.

In 2013, a city zoo in the central Henan province angered visitors by trying to pass off a Tibetan Mastiff dog as a lion. Visitors who had approached the enclosure expressed shock when they heard the “lion” bark.

Visitors at another Chinese zoo, in Sichuan province, were shocked to discover a golden retriever sitting in a cage labeled as an African lion enclosure.
