I’m always glad that in these cases cooler heads prevail and resolve the problem adequately- and that those cooler heads are the best ones to deal with the situation-

Because if I was there, I would have murdered that punk, no question.

FuglyDuck , (edited )
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

It ain’t murder if it’s justified. You’re allowed to use lethal force to stop someone from killing someone else. it doesn’t matter if that first someone happens to be 14, 24, or 94. Sure, you have to stop using lethal force just as soon as the threat is gone… and it’s hard to imagine the kind of lethal force that wouldn’t also put the victim in danger… but it ain’t murder if it’s justified.

theredroom , in Narcan — the opioid overdose medication — will finally be available over the counter
@theredroom@midwest.social avatar

This is a good step forward for accessibility, but unfortunately, the $50 price tag will still put it out of the hands of many who need it. It should be handed out, for free, to anybody who wants it. There’s zero downsides. It cannot be misused, diverted, or abused. It has no other uses. It has no effect on someone not ODing. It cannot benefit anyone in any possible way… unless they are actually dying right now. If we were serious about saving lives, we would be gladly giving it out. Hell, put it in free vending machines on the street. It would be the ultimate pro-life move. But, of course, in a capitalist hellscape, profit motive is of utmost importance. How about drug cos. making billions off opiods foot the bill? Thankfully, there are many great harm reduction organizations that do hand it out free, but the easier to get, the less people die. I recommend anyone pick up some, if you can find it for free, even if you don’t think you’d need it. Home/work/car, you never know what might happen in your vicinity. It’s like the modern Heimlich Maneuver. Ok… that’s my PSA for the day.

Touching_Grass ,

Seriously, you can just inject it without any harm?

I was at the CNE in Toronto recently and they had a free narcan table. The person was busy so I walked by. Now i regret not waiting

The city I live in has a fairly bad homeless problem and drug use that comes with it. Just last week I walked past some office workers who had to call an ambulance on a guy that was having troubles, not sure what the trouble was. The guy seemed out of it but was eating a sandwich but just out of it. The ambulance showed up as I walked past. And this is a common sight at lunch.

I should have grabbed a kit just in case

GBU_28 ,

You don’t inject it, it’s a nasal spray

Touching_Grass ,

This is why I didn’t think I could handle the responsibilities.

GBU_28 ,

Well, if you touched the applicator it would be quickly obvious

theredroom ,
@theredroom@midwest.social avatar

Initially, it was only given by injection, but now it’s common in the nasal spray. That’s what’s great about the nasal route, it’s unintimidating and you can’t fuck it up. …I guess unless you squirt it in their ear or something. lol

nutsack ,

be careful the guy that you wake up with narcan doesn’t punch you in the face

Zoboomafoo ,
@Zoboomafoo@lemmy.world avatar

My parents have plenty of stories to tell of patients dying of an OD being pissed at them for ‘ruining their high’

GBU_28 ,

Replying to top comment for vis:

All you said is correct. Quick PSA, narcan is a temporary opioid blocker. If you administer narcan to an actual OD patient, they will rise to a higher level of consciousness. They may even be able to walk and talk.

They NEED to go to the hospital though, the opioids are still in their system, and once the narcan wears off they can drop into respiratory distress again.

Jesus.

Most of these people that went along with Trump are actually marginally intelligent… and yet they trusted him to pay his bills.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

arin ,

People who are with Trump and the word intelligence does not mesh.

FlashMobOfOne ,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately, it absolutely does.

These people aren’t stupid, and they leveraged his presidency perfectly. They were remiss in their failure to pick up a history book because they seem honestly shocked that Trump, while he demands loyalty, shows loyalty to absolutely no one but himself.

Viking_Hippie ,

Yeah, plenty of smart people are also idiots.

Ben Carson used to be a world class neurosurgeon, Ted Cruz was educated at Yale and Princeton and Rand Paul is technically still a doctor. All of them also colossal morons.

Ben… Ben is just a highly educated smart in his specialty moron.

There have reports of people dressed as police officers kidnapping people exactly this way as well.

phoenixz , in 'Trump isn't funding any of us': Co-defendants in Georgia case are struggling with mounting legal bills

Yeah doh!

It’s the same sad song over and over… Trump uses somebody else to do his dirty work, then throws them under the bus. If there is no bus he’ll goddamn get one.

Why would anyone be stupid enough to work for Trump? It’s a career or life ender and a guaranteed jail sentence

Edit: he even on multiple occasions didn’t pay his lawyers. Why do people work with him?

Racist dickheads breed racist dickheads

Astroturfed , (edited ) in Bodycam: Pregnant woman accused of shoplifting shot by police

Woman scared for her life because officers immediately pointed guns at her for no reason is proven correct when killed by officers for no reason. Just another day in America. Cops just love pulling their guns and using them for no good reason. The only time a cop should be pointing a gun at someone like this is if their life is in immediate danger from that person.

How would society feel if these weren’t cops? If a guy just runs up to your car pointing a pistol at your head you aren’t going to be calm and rational. It’s bullshit we expect anyone to be.

alp ,

You can’t justify her running from the cops, that was wrong but no where near as wrong as killing her for doing so

TexMexBazooka ,

Uhh no I can 100% justify running from cops. Some of them are totally unhinged with a total lack of accountability.

Astroturfed ,

I mean, I kinda can. We’ve all seen too many videos where police officers pull people out of cars in these situations, she was pregnant… People of color end up dead on the ground outside of that car even if they did nothing wrong, all the time. Even more commonly they get thrown around and beaten. Pregnant woman don’t normally want to get thrown around or beaten.

Ilovethebomb ,

OK, but what’s plan B? Running from the police just makes them angrier.

Katana314 ,

I want to posit first that this is a satirical answer, and I am not encouraging this in the slightest, just that this might be the “cornered logic” equation that is given to suspects being confronted by police:

Plan B: You whip out a pistol you bought from the gun store, shoot all of the cops that are about to shoot you, and drive off to go live in a different state so it’s hard to follow you.

I would hope and predict that most people committing petty crimes like shoplifting or drugs would not want to hurt anyone, much less a cop, but when that is THE ONLY answer you can give that has a strong chance of survival in the face of the articles everyone has seen, it begs the need for a different answer - one in which there is ZERO chance of a cop killing an unarmed person for petty crime, and attempted evasion of arrest for said petty crime.

Malfeasant ,

But one has a decent chance of getting away from them…

EndlessApollo ,

This incident is exactly why that’s justified. Her life was in danger, that cop was clearly itching for a reason to kill her or he wouldn’t have stepped in front of the car. She ran because it was probably her best chance of not getting killed

RobMyBot ,

When the police are increasingly known and proven to kill people for next to no reason at all, it’s quite difficult to blame a person for being afraid of them when confronted.

alp ,

Your best chance regardless of race or economic status is to comply so they don’t get hot headed, not to mention its the legally correct thing to do

Ilovethebomb ,

when killed by officers for no reason

Besides trying to run one of them over, you mean? Kinda leaving out some details here.

Astroturfed ,

You watch the video?.. Cars get closer to killing me in a parking lot once a month or more. He easily moved out of the way after murdering her. The car was barely moving.
