I think the legal teams are out of control and have a vendetta against the tech because chatGPT passed the bar exam. I’m kinda sick of their blanket bans paired with “but learn to use it” BS.
This is a stupid policy statement. The tech will be used by teams just the same way autocorrect or grammar checkers are used — simply because it’ll be baked into all their editing tools within a couple of years. Similarly they’re going to keep using licensed image libraries and will transition to AI generated images as their licensed libraries transition to the tech.
Yeah, for serious. There are so many conflicting reports and noted failures by various experts and the judge. Hard to determine how much to rely on anything anyone is saying. Poor kid.
Anything that gets them money is by definition capitalism and by definition good! /s (Yes there are many economists/businessmen that think anything that makes money is by definition good.)
I’m sure many innocent people have nightmares over the crimes committed against them by these inmates in a maximum security prison, so it’s hard for me to be sympathetic. These aren’t low level guys we’re talking about.
These are still human beings, and the policies around imprisonment in this country escalate the level of violence rather than decreasing it.
If you are in favor of punitive imprisonment as a form of torture then I would understand your position. That also seems to be the commonly held position by most people within the prison industrial complex as well.
The largest problem in the prison system is its use as a housing mechanism for the mentally ill thanks to Reagan era policies that defunded mental institutions. The second largest problem is gangs, and that is a tougher problem to solve.
What I know for sure is that what we are doing is not working, and there are a plethora of examples in other industrialized countries that we could point to that have done a better job rehabilitating inmates or at the very least decreased the levels of violence between them.
I think your argument is a gross oversimplification of the issue, and comes from a place of ignorance regarding the absolutely inhumane treatment we subject incarcerated individuals to in this country. There simply is a better way on societal level to prevent people from becoming incarcerated in the first place, dealing with them once they are in the system, and providing resources once they have completed their sentences.
Prison gangs exist for the same reason street gangs exist: members were othered until taken in by gangs. This is how they started, and how they perpetuate, and now they other others. It’sa symptom of despair, directly created by economic policies. The first part is a gross oversimplification; I’m not sure the part referencing economic policies are, by any stretch.
PPP loans must be one of the largest transfers of wealth over a short period of time in history. So much of our money funneled into the already rich and corporations. And in classic American fashion those “loans” will be forgiven.
To be clear, the thing being talked about in the article was not a ppp loan, but a grant. There is no indication anyone, intended recipient or not, is supposed to pay this one back
Grants have rules, and it looks like these rich fucks (who never needed any of that money) just pocketed it. People are fucking losing their homes and are starving and these goddamned talentless conservative grifters are profiting from the misery.
But student loan debt is shackled to you for life with little relief. When we fought for it we were told to fuck off by republicans. Cool. So PPP loans for millionaires are a-okay. But not the average citizen; who pays the taxes in the first place btw. Cool. Cool cool cool.
The airlines can end this practice pretty quick by charging less for a direct flight to the connecting city than they do for a two-legged flight though it. We prohibited the railroads from doing this sort of thing back in 1887 with the Interstate Commerce Act.
That’s back before we gave up any semblance of real democracy and legalized bribery though. Now you can do massive multi million dollar stock buybacks during good times and cry poor house and demand a bailout anytime you hit a bump in the road. They make the rules now.
From what I remember, there’s a very heavy emphasis on engineering in Russia, and they produce more engineers than any other country. They may have some brain drain, but plenty to spare.
While roscosmos has been a bit of a powerhouse for ISS missions they seem to have difficulty with missions beyond GEO. I hope they are able to land successfully but I wouldn’t be betting on it.
Blat blat. Fire power’s something no american has bragging rights over `cause we all can get it. Legal or illegal. We’re in a slow motion civil war so don’t go bragging about shit everyone has access to if you’re a soft handed new age patriot.
I’m a teacher. I bought this book for my own children. It’s a book about being true to yourself, even when you don’t feel like you fit in. You don’t have to be “blue” or “pink” if you feel like you fit into both categories.
Yes, it’s a book about being trans, but there are other ways to read the book, especially if your audience is young. Accepting and loving yourself. Inclusion. Tolerance. It’s a sweet book, and so of course people are going to get mad… it teaches kids acceptance, not hate!
They have been for a long while now. The left chooses to be blind to it. We need strong response like the socialist rifle association, and those like it. War is here and cannot be avoided through denial or compartmentalized away.
War is here? We have 350 million plus people. I don’t see how you can call the occasional incident “war”. If it was violence targeted at non-conservatives even once every few days I could see your point maybe. But as violent and awful as America is, I think the vast majority of our violence is not political in nature.
I will probably get downvoted for saying it, but this post and the response here reminds me a lot of things you’d see on r/conservative in that people take an isolated hateful incident and extrapolate to say that this is the start of a civil war and we need to mount an equally forceful response. Yes this is a tragedy, unhinged, and terroristic behavior, but, as someone from a deeply red state who has some ultra-conservative family, 0 of them are even remotely close to wanting to fight and die over pride flags.
I only say this because the sentiment that “there is no other way out of this but civil war” is not anywhere close to true, in my mind, and only serves to stop coherent discussion.
Perfectly said. I’m with you. I do think it’s a distinct possibility at some point but this news story is not a part of some inevitably imminent civil war. If nothing else, 99.9% of people are way too comfortable and lazy currently to even attempt to create that sort of chaos. Something to still be watchful about but nothing like some of the comments in this thread are saying.
I only say this because the sentiment that “there is no other way out of this but civil war” is not anywhere close to true, in my mind, and only serves to stop coherent discussion.
It is also not at all the appropriate response to hearing about an innocent person being killed. No sympathy or concern or even tact for the victim nor her community nor loved ones— Instead, fantasizing about even more of the same thing happening so you can mentally LARP as a hero. Even if you’re right, this is not the place to scream your violence-fantasy slogans.
Interesting that as communities become more radical and more specialized— Not that that’s always a bad thing; It’s probably a natural part of the memetic processes by which communities evolve— But it’s interesting that they also seem to become less and less empathetic at the same time.
I think the vast majority of our violence is not political in nature. Of course, but the rate that it’s rising is very concerning. The rhetoric is also getting more heated.
Wouldn’t be surprised if things did indeed boil over.
But it’s been going on a long time weather it’s Reproductive care doctor’s gunned down in Kansas, the Capitol raided, normal execution of POC by LEOs everywhere.
It’s much more likely that it is that bad and getting worse fast but you’re just in a place of privilege to be insulated from it.
Even the FBI director has testified to congress about the growing and enormous risk of political violence. Even librarians are being targeted.
Ignoring it, denying it, or trying to dismiss it won’t make it go away.
Will we start seeing everything say “Made in Vietnam” now instead of “Made in China?” Vietnam is also a communist country, so why would the US do this?
