Cryophilia , in The US mall is not dying

Malls in my area are mostly doing great.

I think there were just a lot of middling malls, and malls in areas without the population to support them. What the article calls “top tier” malls in large cities are doing fine.

PalmTreeIsBestTree ,

And there was several metro areas that have faced economic decline in the last 30 years that have contributed to some malls going out of business as well. This happened because people did not have the money to spend nor an increasing population to cater to a large mall.

Everlastingspud , in Shop owner shot, killed over rainbow flag outside clothing store near Lake Arrowhead

How much of a pussy do you have to be to go shoot somebody over a rainbow flag. What a fucking fairy. People are so sensitive these days and don’t know how to act. We can blame the internet all we want, but at the end of the day, people need to learn to have some social skills. How to talk disagreements out and let people have an opinion, even if it may be wrong or stupid in their eyes. It absolutely infuriates me that people gotta die over stupid shit.

foggy ,

In like 2021 when the truckers were protesting g the vaccine at the border I made a man snap in public over what was legitimately a luke-warm shot at the protest.

I said something like “these dipshits are acting like they didn’t get their mandated MMR shots already.” And a guy next to me, not in the conversation, dramatically stood up, and loudly announced “You know what?! All you fuckin idiots think the situation is simple, but it’s a lot more fucking complex that the corporate media is making it out to be!” He stormed out. Didn’t pay his tab.

The whole bar just sat there in awe. Like “damn I guess some of us really got hit with that isolation crazy”

Truly, a year alone for some was just too much.

I live in Utah and all of the malls have a shitty knock-off Auntie Anne's called Pretzelmaker that never fails to disappoint.

Jaywarbs ,

I was going to ask how you feel about Pretzel Ti🥨e, but then I saw that they turned into Pretzelmaker.

kaitco , in X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014

Ah, yes. A “glitch”. And, how fascinating that it affects links from the early days when Twitter was really gaining traction and being used to rouse populaces.

The thing is, Musk, whether he was paid to do this or not, is acting purposefully. This is all a grand scheme to fully dismantle what was once our global town square. Twitter was once a place where “the people” could hold politicians, corporations, and the generally wealthy accountable for their actions publicly. In the past year, the platform has become unsteady, blue checks are untrustworthy, and even the name has changed to something that causes one to pause.

I dislike the man as much as the next normal person, but all of this nonsense has been planned from the start. He’s not a complete idiot. These actions have been calculated steps to take away the voice of the people and eliminate a single source of truth as things get worse and worse.

Bizarroland ,
@Bizarroland@kbin.social avatar

If you want further verification of that, look at where the money that he used to purchase Twitter came from.

It came from the Middle East, it came from oppressive regimes with wealth inequalities equivalent to the difference between a newborn baby that has to pay the hospital bill for its own birth and Elon musk.

It came from areas where people who were unhappy with the extreme laws that they were forced to live under used Twitter to organize so that they could vote and push for laws that brought them greater equality in life.

The fact that Elon is also using Twitter to fragment the American population and prevent them from unifying in a vote or having a single location where everyone can go and talk about the things that they are interested in is secondary to that but also serves the purposes of Elon who profited immensely from the Republican tax cuts from 2016 to 2020.

Elon went from a net worth of $11 billion dollars to $70 billion dollars in 4 years, and from $70 billion in 2020 to $219 billion dollars today, because the tax breaks that Trump instituted during his presidency have not been repealed or adjusted.

Cybersteel ,

Probably one of the few places where all sides of the political spectrum inhabited.

t0lo ,

Additionally the Arab spring started on social media, which literally toppled multiple Middle East regimes. This makes perfect sense

Are we referring to Musk as a glitch now?

Hazdaz , in X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014

Guarantee this is related to the Trump indictments.

Z4rK ,

Which of them goes back so far?

Hazdaz ,

He was running for office for 2016 versus Hillary, but the run up to the election started way before that. Plus I’m sure Elon decided to maybe erase 6 to 12 months before Trump really went Twitter crazy just to make it seem less suspicious.

dethb0y , in Are forced-reset triggers illegal machine guns? ATF and gun rights advocates at odds in court fights

Our tax dollars: At Work. This litigation’s costing a fortune and basically comes down to a technical detail of the wording of a requirement in the law.

You’d think the government would have better things to spend it’s time and resources on than this.

CmdrShepard ,

Yeah, it’s a waste of time if we ignore statistics like the leading cause of death for children being gun violence. A line has to be drawn somewhere with every law and I don’t see any real justification for why this mod outweighs the lives of all the kids who will die in the next school shooting. Is being able to shoot a couple extra clay pigeons for ‘sport’ worth it at that cost?

Birrags ,

Imo, this seems like an extremely reasonable thing for the government to spend money on. It would have been better if they had worded the law better in the first place. But after the lawsuits we will know either way if that type of device is legal or not.
