The second they crack down on me I will cancel and set up a PLEX server and just download anything I need. Not that I use it much anyways YouTube is my primary source of video content.
My Netflix is bundled with my phone plan. A family phone plan with households in 2 states. I effectively lost my Netflix access. I’m in the process of setting up a plex type server.
If any cop asks you if you’re doing something illegal… immediately ask for a lawyer. You’re not obligated to answer any questions or give them any information at all. this obligates them to either cease questioning you and let you go, or arrest you while they fetch a lawyer. they’re not going to do that over a traffic stop where they have nothing else.
Further, if they continue pressing or asking questions, or anything they learn (or “Learn”) from that questioning is tainted and inadmissible; and there’s a solid argument for “they didn’t have probable cause before asking questions, I asked for a lawyer and they said that gave them probable cause” will invalidate anything turned up from a search.
So your solution is to steal another persons property and then make them buy it back? Exactly how would you get that through the courts? Let’s ignore the words landlord and land, and let’s go with vehicle and owner , think the courts would agree with stealing the vehicle?
If I was selling drugs out of a low income house that I owned, the state can and would seize the property. If a property is used in the commission of a crime, the government can seize it
I think the crackdown is on certain types of devices and in phases. The first devices locked out were my android/google TV devices. A few weeks later, my xbox was locked out. My android phone still works, but can’t cast to the TV now. Apple TV and ipad still work. Need to try the PC.
Thanks for the excerpt! It definitely enticed me to read. It’s a very long read that I have to save for later but the first half was awesome. This is what I expect from journalism.
The title is TERRIBLE like they tried to pick the most click bait title possible. It is from a single quote from a source that really doesn’t give much more context. What it really is about is the current technology and government surveillance and how journalists struggle to protect their sources with this technology and it always changing. It’s really fascinating and well written. And it’s not just America or China or whatever but also talks to journalists from other countries or talks in general what other countries have. (Like I said I couldn’t finish it today in one sitting. But I got decently far so grain of salt because this is all based on what I read so far)
They're claiming a staffing and funding hurdle to get the existing laws enforced. If the department has been starved for funds to the point where it can't do its job, who made that decision, and more importantly, who donated to their political campaign?
This reeks of backdoor politics on the part of the landlords. De-funding an enforcement agency when a law holds up in court is a tried and true form of regulatory capture.
This is the most disingenuous nonsense. How in the world could that quote be ok in any context??? There’s a reason black history and women’s studies are courses. Both groups of people are generally left out of history books. Hell, they’re trying to erase the fact that Rosa Park was a POC from the history books.
Good way to m lose your business license if you aren’t a general contractor. But since they are, supervisor is getting fired and nothing else is going to change.
You’re absolutely right. However there were rules and amenities put in place way before we were born
I’ll give you an example. When I worked as a utility locator, I caught a GC’s team doing HARD drugs on a construction site. I reported it to the county. Nothing happened. Same team, same habits. I would speak to the GC directly about their teams, and they didn’t care.
A week passes and the entire site is roped off with police tape. A heavy machinery operator from that team ended up running a cleaner over in one of those JLG cherry pickers with the monster truck tires. Turns out he had meth and thc in his system. He was fired. No charges towards the individual or the GC because it was chalked up to a workplace accident.
Now why were they able to get away with that you ask? GC’s have to maintain state and county contracts and they even do work for the counties and states. They literally have all the power when it comes to construction. The only real way to get a GC shut down is if there are multiple accidents resulting in an unusual number of injuries or death. But even then, that’s usually when the feds and OSHA get involved
AND when they do get caught in something of that nature, they don’t really shut down. They change the company name under a new license and then magically get all the contracts that the previous company had
Not in Texas. Not anymore. They are actively making it so much worse with the recent bill removing a requirement that employers allow construction workers to drink fucking water.
