Psionicsickness , in FBI Hired Social Media Surveillance Firm that Labeled Black Lives Matter Organizers “Threat Actors”

peaceful Black Lives Matter protest

Can stop reading right there.

Dong64 ,
@Dong64@lemmy.world avatar

Just wanted to clarify, I assume you’re being sarcastic? You believe every Black Lives Matter protest was a violent affair? Because that’s pretty verifiably false. Not to mention, not the crux of this article.

This article is about how the FBI lied in court about its social media monitoring capabilities. If you want to spout off unverified theories about how every protest was violent, you could make your own post/community. You could also try actually contributing to the discussion, but of course you don’t have to.

Bipta ,

I went to BLM protests and felt unsafe... because of the right wingers who approached me obviously hoping for violence.

BathtubJoe , in How America fell out of love with ice cream
@BathtubJoe@kbin.social avatar

I stopped eating most dairy (except cheese — love that shit) cause milkshakes, ice cream, etc started making me get congested.

No other symptoms, just congestion, and never with cheese. Oh well. At least I still have my cheese.

Capricorny90210 ,

I’ve never heard of anything like that. Did you go see a Dr?

BathtubJoe ,
@BathtubJoe@kbin.social avatar

Nah, I’ll mention it next time I go though. It doesn’t really bother me, I like ice cream but not enough to foot the doctor’s bill just for that.

Why would you want NOT to see the total price anyway? That is so shady…

DannyMac , in What the Freakout Over Trans Women Breastfeeding Is Really About

It is fantastic that a trans women can breastfeed. It clearly appears the public needs to be educated about this, but also people need to mind their own fucking business.

Turkey_Titty_city ,

the people in question view these types of a things as a violation of the natural order.

little_cow OP ,

yet they often don’t view taking testosterone to counter the effects of low-t as a violation of the natural order

Nor do they get outraged about gender affirming surgery like breast augmentation as long as the person is cis.

DannyMac ,
@DannyMac@lemmy.world avatar

If they worry about adhering to natural order, many of those geniuses wouldn’t have made it to adulthood to worry about it in the first place. Just stroll through a really old cemetery and it will break your heart.

elbowdrop , in Airbnb is adding cleaning fees to a new 'total price' of bookings in search results after people complained listings were misleading

I travel for work. Just stay at a Hampton Inn. Always coffee, breakfast, clean. Not to mention its usually close to whatever you want to go to. The garden Inn is good also, as well as holiday express. I don’t like double tree, even though they give you cookies.

Also Hamptons have a shuttle to theme parks in Orlando. Its really easy to wake up and eat breakfast then get driven to the park. Done need to worry about parking, where to get breakfast or how to get back.

It seems I went on a little rant. Oh well.

riverjig ,

I’m a fan of the Holiday Inn Express. Always consistent.

And those cinnamon rolls too, so tasty.

marmo7ade ,

I’m not traveling for work. I’m traveling with my friends, for pleasure.

Last week a group of us went to Boston for the weekend. We got an Air BnB downtown. It was like a large apartment. It is far more pleasurable and easier for the group to be in that type of setting. We can socialize, make plans, and all leave at the same time as a group. This saves time.

The alternative of having each couple have their own hotel room is more expensive, less efficient, and less enjoyable.

I don’t care about Hampton Inn breakfast. I care about my mates.

On the other hand, reflexive contrarianism is, as the economist Adam Ozimek puts it, a “brain rotting drug.” Those who succumb to that drug “lose the ability to judge others they consider contrarian, become unable to tell good evidence from bad, a total unanchoring of belief that leads them to cling to low quality contrarian fads.”

    What do you mean by “too many too quickly”? If it’s about immigrants, I don’t see how it’s actually relevant here. Police attacks mentioned in the article (and that were happening in general) were against black/minority French citizens, not newly taken in immigrants. Plus the police force itself doesn’t consist of immigrants.

    And Europeans becoming poorer is a wealth redistribution problem first and foremost (with an aging population sprinkled in).

    Sure, there are shitty people amongst immigrants, but in a similar proportion to the amount of shitty people in general. It’s not the reason. Kinda looks like shifting the blame.

    This will be controversial but I hope so.

    The only reason we got Lincoln was because the know-nothing party imploded into their own insane conspiracy black hole.

    We need the GOP to consume themselves so a sane replacement can grow out of the ashes.

    LostCause , in Europeans Are Becoming Poorer. ‘Yes, We’re All Worse Off.’

    This reads like DARVO - Corporate Edition with a derogatory jab towards free time and unions both.

    I work 30h now too and thus I suppose this is aimed at people like me, but tell you what: the job I applied to was actually only approved by HR/payroll for 30h max, the company doesn‘t WANT to pay more than this and they knew they wouldn‘t find anyone experienced to sell 40h of their life for such a measly salary.

    So we managed to find a mutually beneficial agreement, I get to live and exist like a frugal monk, perpetually renting and never owning anything (the European dream!), and they filled a position at 70%, pocketing 30% of the salary they would have had to pay to attract a full time worker.

    Now, how is it my fault I can’t spend like an American and the economy stagnates then? It‘s maybe a shared responsibility, but truly, the company is the one in charge here and if they told me I have to work full time and get that 30% more pay too, I probably would (since I kinda like my current job oddly enough and don‘t want to switch again yet).

    Arotrios , in Biden's election war chest trails Trump's in size, filings show
    @Arotrios@kbin.social avatar

    The article is a bit misleading as it's only comparing presidential campaign amounts, and Biden is only $2 million behind Trump ($20mil to $22mil), but combined with the Democratic Party accounts, he's at $77 million. Trump still has to face a contested primary, Biden is unlikely to face any serious challengers.

    What's more interesting to me is that Trump has pulled in less than half of what he had at this point in the election cycle last time around ($56mil). This clearly indicates that the major GOP donors have pulled their support, at least until he wins the primary. While it's unlikely that money will flow to Democrats, I think it indicates a willingness on their part to sit out this cycle until the GOP gets its finances in order. No one likes being ripped off.

    zombuey OP ,

    very good insight. I am not sure that the article is misleading as much as its just stating the facts without speculating further.
