TheFin , in Donald Trump says he will flee to Venezuela if he loses election [Newsweek]

And what, become a cowboy!

Rhaedas , in Mom fights back in grizzly bear attack: ‘I’m not ready to leave my daughter’

I don't like the fact that they killed bears they found in the area afterwards. She admitted she was in a bad place to be, and her dog might have triggered the initial attack (but did a good boy and helped scare off more). So bears that were being bears died because of this. I started reading this as a happy story of survival, but now I'm just glad she managed to live and the rest sucks.

shalafi ,

Had a black bear wander in my dog door a few years back. The state biologist concerned with bears ordered it euthanized. I could tell she was heartbroken, but that’s procedure in such a case.

The contractor who works for the state set a trap in my yard for a week. Didn’t get him! Haven’t had a bear in the hood since.

Rhaedas ,

I do get the reasoning behind such a policy to prevent an animal exposed to behavior from repeating it, but it sucks so much death came from a simple mistake. Especially since the bears weren't even straying outside their normal area and just doing what you'd expect them to do.

tamal3 ,

Golly, bears where i live get into houses and trash all the time. To my knowledge none have been killed for it, it’s just accepted that people need to lock up their houses.

A bear also recently opened my car door, ate what it could find, and left with no damage to the car (other than a next level quantity of mud).

The differences in policies between cities are interesting.

I work just outside of the Pease air force base and drank the coffee and water for ages. They were on the base well system which was heavily contaminated. Thanks a bunch.

I’d ask him to promise, but I know what his promises are worth.

InternetUser2012 ,

Yeah, there’s no way. However, if he said if he wins he knows Kamala is going to flee the country, I would 100% bet everything I own he’s taking off. Projection is real.

Uhhh, WHAT?!?

MediaBiasFactChecker Bot , in J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk Named in Imane Khelif's Cyberbullying Lawsuit
otp , in Break-in reported at Trump campaign office in Virginia

Are there more instances these days of anti-right-wing crimes? It seemed like this was almost exclusively right-wing antics doing crimes against the left-wing.

dezmd ,
@dezmd@lemmy.world avatar

How do you know thats what this is?

otp ,

I don’t. I’m asking so people more familiar might shed some light on the topic

jwelch55 ,

When you say ‘are there more instances…’ you appear to imply that this case is known clearly to be the left attacking the right.

otp ,

“more instances these days”.

I’m not asking for other examples. I’m asking if there is any sort of trend.

Just Asking Questions

Just asking questions (also known as JAQing off, or as emojis: "🤔🤔🤔"[1]) is a way of attempting to make wild accusations acceptable (and hopefully not legally actionable) by framing them as questions rather than statements. It shifts the burden of proof to one’s opponent; rather than laboriously having to prove that all politicians are reptoid scum, one can pull out one single odd piece of evidence and force the opponent to explain why the evidence is wrong.

otp ,

I’m not looking for an argument. If you’d like to say “No, not that I’m aware of”, then that’s perfectly fine, lol

Eldritch ,

We don’t know what this is yet. Other than a b and e. Even if this was anti right wing crime one also needs to keep in mind that they’ve made Justice against the right wing a crime as well.

When Justice becomes impossible violence becomes inevitable.

Mouselemming ,

Well, the shooter was a right-winger doing crimes against his own wing. This could be similar in that way.

otp ,

Has that been made conclusive? Last I heard, he was a registered Republican who also made a donation to a left-wing group.

He could’ve been someone on the political left who wanted to reduce Trump’s chance at being the Republican candidate by registering as Republican to vote against him.

Mouselemming ,

One old $15 donation doesn’t cancel our all the rest of his life, including the political stance he displayed at school.

To be fair though, his goal with the shooting seems to have been more about getting attention than anything else.

otp , (edited )

including the political stance he displayed at school

This is news to me; that’s why I asked about him. Last I’d read, they couldn’t find anything about his political ideologies aside from his being a registered Republican and that one political donation. Guess I’ll have to look him up again to see what’s been discovered! Lol

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, his political affiliation still seems unclear.

His donation was made the same day that President Biden was sworn into office. According to the Progressive Turnout Project, he made the donation in response to an email about “tuning into” the inauguration; he was unsubscribed from the group’s mailing list in 2022.

Aside from these details, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything new

solsangraal , in US approves $20 billion in weapons sales to Israel amid threat of wider Middle East war

“arms sales” lol

yea, let’s call it a “sale” when they’re “buying” it with money we gave them

some_guy , in Texas judge steps aside in Elon Musk's X case against advertisers

We seriously need to come together as a society and do something about this asshat. He’s tying up the courts with bullshit suits and causing real harm to regular people on a frequent basis.

solsangraal , in Child rapist Steven van de Velde weeps in first interview since Olympics outrage

some mistakes you pay for your entire life. just like your victim(s). next time you do a streetview search of your neighborhood for sex predators, remember that all those pins covering the map only represent the people who got caught

HenchmanNumber3 , in Locking up items to deter shoplifting is pushing shoppers online

If I have to wait for an employee to unlock an item, I’m just buying it somewhere else, whether it’s online or another brick and mortar that doesn’t make me beg to spend money there. Same with stores that have passcode locks on their bathroom doors. I’m not asking a retail worker for permission to pee.

Cosmonauticus ,

I’m not asking a retail worker for permission to pee.

Will someone please tell the Europeans having to have cash to piss or shit is a crime against humanity?

FundMECFSResearch ,

I wish our gvnts understood that. Plus I’m in a wheelchair so I can never enter those fucking doors things even if I want to pay

Cosmonauticus ,

In my travels across Europe most countries give a massive middle finger to the disabled. I hear the argument in preserving old building and architecture but you’re essentially walling off an entire sedition of ppl from living normally. As an American living in Germany I’d have a tough time choosing between German cheap Healthcare vs American handicap friendly infrastructure if I was disabled

FundMECFSResearch ,

Though problem with the US is if your disability prevents you from driving your fucked.

phdepressed ,

If you’re in a larger city driving isn’t necessary, the problem is paying for living in a larger city near the public transport stops.

FundMECFSResearch ,

Yeah good luck on the 8k per year US disability benefits

Cosmonauticus ,

In rural areas there are organizations that pick up the disabled and elderly that’s covered by the medicare (or Medicad I can never remember the difference). There are limits but it’s something

Speculater ,
@Speculater@lemmy.world avatar

Bro, when I was in Norway I had to pay like $3 equivalent to piss! What the actual fuck. Greece it’s like €1.

SeaJ ,

Holy shit. I don’t think I ever recall paying more than 0.20€. Granted it has been over a decade since I have paid at a public restroom.

dactylotheca , in Why journalists shouldn’t be neutral on climate change | Calls to keep politics out of science reporting ignore a core responsibility: minimize harm

Yes. Don’t let anyone have power over you, like a 19 year old would over a 12 year old. Don’t let them bully you, rapey mcrapeface.
