Markets are inherently problematic and lead to wealth being centralized in the hands of the few owners. A well regulated market ignores the problem which must be addressed; the dichotomy of workers and owners. Class struggle won’t be fixed if not addressed. Neo-liberalism markets can’t be fixed with more neo-liberalism.
Even if everything was worker-owned, markets present problems. Through luck and circumstance, some buyers and sellers will have an easier time to the detriment of others. Some will be priced out. Wealth and power will concentrate. With that comes regulatory capture. There goes the idealist “uncorrupt government.”
Anti-social strategies like loss leaders pricing out competitors and price gouging and collusion don’t go away with worker ownership.
It’s still a system of self-interested parties. Social Darwinism over collective well-being.
… not only vertical relations of capitalist exploitation based around the wage labor–capital relation — capitalists exploiting their workers — but also horizontal relations of exploitation — wealthier firms exploiting poorer firms. Horizontal exploitation can occur even between worker-owned cooperatives, which leads you to argue that market socialism may be exploitative in much the same way capitalism is.
Honestly, boomers can shit how much they want on newer generations, but sometimes it kinda feels like everything is made to screw over the young people.
My piece of advise would be to listen to our parents/teachers advises with a huge grain of salt. They come from different times and don’t really have an understanding on what’s happening in the world right now. Do your own research.
There’s a miss conception that getting a college degree is a MUST to be someone in life, which is entirely false. Most of the boomers who basically force you to get a degree, do not have one and managed to purchase a house which cost was pretty much double of his monthly wage instead of the current 1,000,000%.
Seek professions that are lacking in your country’s society, and don’t fear changing to new areas.
Unfortunately, I learned this after I took on a few thousand in student debt. It took a hell of a lot of work, and it certainly isn’t for everyone, but I’m now a self-taught front-end web dev making a decent salary. The trick is to learn some kind of skill and know it like the back of your hand.
No they don’t. One party says they’re for it, there’s just apparently literally nothing they can do about the people in their party who continuously stop them from doing it. Giving them a conve isn’t scapegoat for why they never do anything.
Just wait until you enter the workforce and your company gives you a locked down work computer.
The joys of getting special permission from the IT department so that you can install a browser other than the ancient version of Internet Explorer (no, not Edge) that came preloaded.
Absolutely. I’m convinced that any company that asks employees to use their own devices simply doesn’t understand cybersecurity.
Best case would be giving employees a choice of hardware and software from a list of compatible products, but of course that’s expensive and more work for the business so it seldom happens.
At least in the EU, the GDPR should make some employers reconsider when asking to use personal devices.
The rules can be quite a bit stricter when using a software for professional purposes, and you shouldn’t risk an employee doing whatever they want on their device.
WhatsApp for example would only be legal to use if you have explicit, written consent of all the people you’re going to save to your contacts.
In this day and age they should expect you to bring your own device. But they should also not expect you to install any of their software on your device. You simply remote to their machine. They keep it locked down, you get to use your own equipment for all the things you like (music, your personal email, internet, etc).
Or your tasks should be set up so you can do your work using a web browser (in a container - thanks Firefox) and call it a day.
I use Linux for everything and just remote into the works computers to do theirs. I am happy with that. When I went to another country recently I only brought a Steam Deck and was able to do all the work I needed to do.
I’m going through this after my work was bought out. They forced us onto their locked down computers, and they’re so locked down we literally can’t do our work on it. Execs are trying to come up with a solution, thankfully at least for now they’ve gotten corporate to agree to let us use our old laptops until they do. I think mostly because we’re extremely high value low cost, so if we’re not working, they’re losing a lot of money.
I remote to all our windows machines from my Linux box which is fine with me. They can lock down their computer, I am just supposed to use what they give me. They pay me, they put the malware on their own machines, so… whatever.
1978 for BBS vs either 1974 for the publication of TCP itself, or 1982/1983 for deployment of the same TCP/IP we use today, or 1976 for X.25, or 1977 for the first actual live interconnection of multiple packet switched networks.
I gotta say no. This is more like a collection of forums. There really is no following, no social aspect other than discussing the topic at hand. I am not promoting myself, I prefer annonymity over identifying myself. I do not think this counts as social media at all.
Just was told to spend more time in the office. I will, but I will be working even less than I was from home with significantly less time spent on tasks.
I don't need a babysitter to make sure I'm getting work done.
Um, professor umbridge from Harry Potter. She’s basically an asshole just to be one.
The other ones all have some sort of justification to their shittyness. Jenny was abused, Vader was a literal slave that was taken advantage of by both the Jedi and palpatine. The joker has literal mental issues.
Umbridge was straight up a child abuser with no remorse or tragic back story. She harmed kids while enjoying it and drinking tea.
You see later that she was a blood purist and tortured only those who she thought of as blood traitors or whatever. That’s par on course with people who sided with voldemort. After the quidditch world cup the death eaters tried to torture a muggle family, including the children I think.
I Don’t just look at the blue line, you gotta look at the upcoming direction too. A basic understanding of the next roadname you’re turning on to/highway exit is all you need. Then just add the screen to any point in your rotation of rear mirror > left side mirror > rear mirror > right side mirror > front windshield [EVERYONE SHOULD BE DOING THIS ANYWAY] and you’re good to go.
I feel like the voice prompts are especially unhelpful if I am unfamiliar with the roads. Looking at the map shows me the next one or two turns at a glance and also shows me which lanes I need to take.
