Maybe Jesus ran a scam with Judas on the Romans.

“Hey Jesus, how about we get that gold for your head. I know this dude that looks somewhat like you. Let’s give him to the Romans.”

Then, three days after, someone not in on the plan found Jesus, so they had to pretend that he rose from the dead.

They went to the grave to get rid of the body, so their story is more believable.

This episode made me stop watching Black Mirror for good. It was way too disturbing and I’m someone who doesn’t even flinch while watching horror.

lattenwald ,

This episode made me watch all of Black Mirror, and let me tell you it didn’t stand up to this one. Watch White Christmas episode and you’re good. Maybe add San Junipero, this one is really good too and it’s more optimistic.

Botree ,
@Botree@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve watched White Christmas too after hearing so much about it, and that, my friend, was the final nail to the coffin for me. Anymore Black Mirror and I’m going to cry.

bibliotectress ,

You just convinced me that I do NOT want to watch it. I can’t handle that type of stuff, but I love sci-fi, so I was considering it. Thank you!!!

Botree ,
@Botree@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a huge fan of sci-fi and I do love myself some sci-fi horror, like those in Love, Death & Robots and the German series Dark, but even Dark is nowhere as dark as Black Mirror is. The difference being Black Mirror is entirely focused on showing you the darkest side of human nature. There are no redemptions in most of the stories. No typical hero journey, no light vs dark narrative; just shit going from bad to worse to nightmare fuel.

If there’s one thing you can take away from the entire series, it wouldn’t be “Technology is bad”, but “Humans are fucked up”.

TheSambassador ,

Black Mirror is just so unrelentingly cynical about human nature. I watched the one with the lady whose memory is removed and “normal” people delight in following her and recording her, and it’s all a big production to punish this women for doing a pretty fucked up thing.

Every episode seems to just say “aren’t human beings the worst?” The sci fi is interesting sometimes, but I can’t really go through life believing that humans would behave like they do in that show.

Rolando ,

Just read the episode plot summaries on Wikipedia. That way you get the ideas, and save yourself the time and trauma.

nonearther ,

First two seasons were good and then Black Mirror became generic US show.

theangryseal ,

I liked the last season. It was something to watch any way.

It was not Black Mirror though. I don’t know what the hell they were thinking. That first episode kind of followed through and then it was all downhill.

Again, I liked it. It wasn’t too terrible. It wasn’t what I was expecting and that disappointed me.

Well, the two episodes really worked now that I think about it. The astronaut episode and the quantum computer episode.

Ok now that I’ve typed it out, if you haven’t seen it just watch those two and forget the rest.

For you, I have no idea what kind of music you’re into, but there are a ton of options for instrumental.

themagzuz ,
@themagzuz@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

there is plenty of non-quantized instrumental music if you’re willing to look, and even then dismissing all music doesn’t forego a strict grid (which in the modern day is simply a choice and artist can choose to make) is dismissing a massive body of work just because it doesn’t use a technique that you like

ChickenLadyLovesLife ,

Dude/Dudette, it was just a gag comment. Not only am I not really dismissing a massive body of work just because it uses quantization, as someone who’s spent more than half his life writing software synthesis applications, I’ve literally made a career out of quantization.

That being said, music that is not quantized definitely has a more natural feel to it, although putting that “feel” into sequencing software is surprisingly difficult.

applebusch ,

I understand why people always say things like this. It’s the not having a choice that ruins eternity. Fortunately it seems that such a fate is physically impossible in this reality. Even if you were made of the most durable possible material, you would still fundamentally be composed of baryonic matter, which means if you fell into a star, collided with a celestial object at relativistic speed, or fell into a black hole, you would surely die. There is always a way out for an enterprising immortal, and afterwards sweet nothing.

He was mistaken for a thief of some kind and was arrested in the middle of a meal.

Does anyone know what democracy manifest means?

Aremel ,

I’m talking out of my ass, but it could mean that the natural conclusion of democracy is mob rule, where nothing matters besides the sentiment of “the mob”, a large group of like-minded people. Here he was falsely accused of theft but because enough people believed the lie, he was taken to jail based solely on sentiment.

Or not. This is my take on his “democracy manifest” comment.

RedditRefugee69 ,

That’s a good take, but I think it is more likely a sarcastic comment. A comment that Australia should be a democratic government with rights but now it’s a police state that no longer resembles democracy (in his angry opinion)

Longpork3 ,

There is a recent New Zealand Today episode that interviews him. IIRC, he was involved in a number of low level scams at the time, and was arrested while dining on a stolen credit card. Man was just a natural showman, who wasnt going to go down quietly.

someguy3 ,

Iirc he was mistaken as the person doing scams. Thus the confusion why he was being arrested after being told they wanted to talk outside.

NauticalNoodle , (edited )

I would argue it just means that the Democracy that was created as the Australian government is (among other things) what led to his wrongful arrest while eating out and being manhandled on camera. -He just said it in an extraordinarily eloquent way. You could also draw some additional inferences based on his behavior, tone, and choice of words, but I can’t really confirm any 100%.

HonkTonkWoman ,

I believe he’s commenting on the idea that state of the current democracy has led to his wrongful arrest.

He’s asking onlookers, “Is this really what you voted for?”
