Tepid regards.

The ones who will suffer will be the employee, someone has to pay for this nonsense and it will definitely not be shareholders or him

False. I am definitely an introvert but if I’m going to pay for it, I’m going to get what I asked for.

Doing the lawn after dark seems so unwholesome. Which is annoying because I could use a 25° drop in temperature.

toynbee ,

What about flying a kite in the dark?

And depending on the size of your lot, maybe you could use a reel mower. They’re nearly silent!

You could also use a scythe, but that sounds like a lot more work.

In German you can use “Guten Tag” as greeting when you see meet someone. When writing mail, you can also use it as greeting even if it is not that common, to use “Guten Tag” in written conversations.

BUT: When you use “Guten Tag” at the END it’s like a “Fuck off!” (regardless of written or in verbal communication) without being an insult.

Look, if you live somewhere that the sun makes you regret existence (read: everywhere in 10 years), yard work is getting done in the morning, car work is getting done in the evening.

volvoxvsmarla ,

I have neither a yard nor a car, what do I do on a Saturday

Ageroth ,

papalonian ,

You don’t have any yardwork or car problems to deal with, so whatever the hell you want, I presume.

Except sleep without earplugs, I guess that’s out.

shalafi , in My neighbor's exact thought process

Meanwhile, my wife keeps asking if it would be rude to mow the lawn at 7AM on a Saturday. With the electric mower.

prettybunnys ,

and you said yes, of course I can only hope.

cm0002 ,

Modern electric mowers are actually very quiet, they’re not your parents electric mower that’s for sure lol

Mine is so quiet not only do I not need to worry about ear protection, you can’t even hear it from inside my own house so def none of the neighbors will be able to hear it either lol

doctordevice ,

What lawn mower do you have that is that quiet??? I have a Ryobi electric push mower that I bought last year and while it’s way quieter than a gas mower I would feel incredibly rude using it early in the morning.

And noise is different depending on time of day. Ambient noise is a lot lower in off-hours, so your mower would sound louder than it does during the day.

grue ,

I was riding up the street on my bicycle the other day and actually stopped and backtracked to ask my neighbor what kind of mower he was using because I was so impressed at how quiet it was. Turns out it was a Ryobi (one of their brushless 40V models, which might matter).

doctordevice ,

Based on the design I think this is the one I have: www.ryobitools.com/products/details/46396037169#

It does say “brushless” but they’ve got a fair few different varieties. I don’t know, I mean like I said it is significantly quieter than a gas mower. It’s a good mower. But I don’t think it’s anywhere near quiet enough to consider using it during off hours.

prettybunnys ,

You’re 100% correct it is still too loud to be used during off hours.

SolarMonkey ,

I have a greenworks push mower and I can clearly hear the birds while I’m mowing.

It’s not the most powerful thing, but it does the job really quietly.

Deestan , in Don't fall for the false dichotomy. You have more than two options.

In real, actionable, practical terms: What is the alternative you propose people choose, that will reduce the likelyhood of a fascist government right now at this election?

AnarchoNoAdjective ,

First past the post voting in a two party system gives you a 99.9999% likelihood of a facist government this election IMHO The only practical action to enact change seems to be a mass general strike.

Deestan ,

It’s a shit voting system. But the election is happening. How to effect a mass general strike large enough to change the voting system and introduce a new candidate with a chance of winning within two months?

Because that is needed in order to safely tell people not to vote.

AnarchoNoAdjective ,

Do both? I’m not saying don’t vote I’m saying the impact of voting is not enough to enact substantial change in policy.

grue ,

Congrats for destroying your credibility with “both sides” bullshit.

Meanwhile, back in factual reality, the Democrats aren’t fascist and have more than a 0.00001% chance of winning.

Ummdustry ,

Would you like to place bets on the chance of there being a 2028 election? I won’t even ask for 1:100000 odds, I’ll happily accept 1:100

Confidant6198 OP ,

Claudia de la Cruz from PSL

Signtist ,

Okay, and how do you plan to get them into the hearts and minds of around 50% of the population in the next 2 months, when the vast majority haven’t even heard of her? It’s not enough to have someone who could be a good president, you also need to get people to vote for them. If you want most of the population to vote for someone, they need to be aware of them as a viable option years beforehand.

I agree that the 2 choices are pawns of the rich, but even if every person who knew about Claudia voted for her, she wouldn’t even get enough votes for her to make the news, much less win. We’re talking about tens of millions of people voting in unison for an election win to happen in this country. At this stage in the game, there are only 2 candidates with that kind of draw power. If you want to focus on the 2028 election (assuming there is one, since there clearly won’t be if Trump wins) to get a 3rd viable candidate on that ballot, that’s a noble plan, but by now this election’s potential winners are already down to 2.

Voting isn’t about closing your eyes and saying “I want someone good to win!” It’s about assessing which people might actually win, and voting for the one that best aligns with your views, however loosely. It’s about strategy. If you want to change that, you need to build national presence in the name of your preferred candidate, and you need to start years ahead of the elections. Big changes don’t happen at the ballot, they happen during the campaigning stage and beforehand. If your candidate isn’t on the news every day leading up to the election, most voters won’t even know they’re an option.

emergencyfood ,

Voting is about choosing good candidates (or parties, or policies). If your system doesn’t let you vote, then you should consider changing your system.

Signtist ,

Voting is about choosing good candidates well before it gets pared down to 2 options. It’s about choosing a good local government, choosing good representatives, choosing good senators. If the only thing you care about is the President, then you’ll never have a good pool of options from which the parties will pick a presidential candidate. They’re not on our side - it’s our job to force their hand with a deck stacked with good candidates. But only the people who pay attention to politics well before election year get to have a say in stuff like that.

emergencyfood ,

Voting is about choosing good candidates well before it gets pared down to 2 options.

In the US, yes. I was making a general statement. A voting system can be set up in multiple ways, but if it forces people to play lesser of the two evils then it is broken and needs to be changed.

isaaclw ,

Edit: too late for this election.

I can hear people have a normal conversation on the street from inside my house. The walls are thin enough to let in and out all sound, but thick enough to keep in the heat in winter.

JordanZ ,

I added a bunch of insulation to my attic and that quieted things down. I think a lot of the sound was coming in the soffit vents and then through the ceiling of the room instead of the walls themselves.

mojofrododojo ,

I live in a really mild climate and like to keep my windows open all the time. But fuck, I hate the vroom vrooms racing all day and night, and hearing people walking around with bluetooth boomboxes… like, when did that become a thing? headphones and jam friend, jeeeeeze… they don’t even sound good.

LaunchesKayaks ,
@LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t mind the music, but I do mind domestic disputes. The house beside mine is a rental and all of the tenants that have been there since I’ve moved in have been the worst. Trashy and constant domestic disputes and leaving their kids and dogs to just roam. I think the latest people got evicted because I haven’t seen them or their dog for a really long time. It’s been nice and quiet since they disappeared and I love it lol.
