I have a huge library of game EXEs on my computer, but they run at a 4:3 aspect ratio as they’re old, Proton/Proton-GE/WINE-GE keep the aspect ratio and place black bars left and right, which is desireble, unlike wine who stocks them to the left side of the screen.
I just found out that sometime in the last month or so while doing regular updates Wine got bumped to 8.12… (likely from 8.0) and my games have gone haywire: Neverwinter Nights and Diablo2 would kind of start but then halt. Switching to desktop and back unblocks games for the next few seconds and then things repeat....
But I’ve spent most of the time tweaking and setting up and downloading stuff rather than actually playing. Games seem to work really well. Not doing benchmarking but I really like how stable the framerate is when frame cap is in place. So far everything I’ve tried was absolutely buttery smooth.
Well I’m hopping around… again. I thought I had a good stable setup going but then something happens upstream that goes against what I want/believe in (looking at you RedHat) and I’m back on the hunt again....
Hi everyone, I just finished writing a guide on everything you need to know in order to game on Linux. It covers Proton (Steam play), using Heroic Launcher (with Wine-GE), and all sorts of tidbits and tips I wish people had told me earlier. I hope this can be useful to someone out there!...
Hi peeps, I’ve just done the transition and removed Windows and chose Garuda to be my flavor after having tried a lot of other ones first. Does anyone have any tips or must to-do’s right out of the box after a fresh install?
